Commercialization of BIOTECH Products
One of the mandates under TTBDP is the commercialization of UPLB BIOTECH Products. This particular mandate highlights the institute’s commitment not only to research but also to ensuring that innovations reach the market and benefit the public. Three projects are outlined under this mandate to ensure TTBDP’s strategic role in bridging science and society.
Project 5: Support services for technology planning and evaluation
This project is concerned with the continuous assessment of UPLB BIOTECH’s market environment to guide decisionmaking in R&D investments and align its innovations with market demands. It also maps the distribution and evaluation of current BIOTECH products and services. Specific activities under this project include:
Activity 1: Mapping the distribution and evaluation of current BIOTECH products and services
Activity 2: Market study for potential BIOTECH products and services
Activity 3: Support for technology evaluation
Project 6: Support services for IP protection, registration and commercialization
Under this project, TTBDP aims to strengthen the legal and regulatory groundwork necessary for product commercialization. This is due to the institute’s recognition of Intellectual Property (IP) as a critical component in fostering innovation and ensuring that creators benefit from their innovations. Specific activities under this project include:
Activity 1: Support for Intellectual Property registration
Activity 2: Monitoring and active search for unauthorized distribution, marketing, and sales of BIOTECH products
Activity 3: Assistance on product registration
Project 7: Support services for business development
This project aims to “sell” the technologies and services to potential investors by engaging them through the development of detailed product profiles and supporting commercialization efforts. Specific activities under this project include:
Activity 1: Development of technology or product profiles
Activity 2: Marketing of products and scoping of potential investors
Activity 3: Support for commercialization of products

TTBDP Extension and Public Service
One of the responsibilities that TTBDP is mandated for is through works such as extension and public service of UPLB BIOTECH. It emphasizes the role of the institution in the systematic transfer of technology and knowledge produced by UPLB BIOTECH and its partners to end-users. Essentially, it is an alternative educational program that encompasses the non-formal system in facilitating the packaging, demonstration, and application of communication materials, tools, technology, products, and processes for the benefit of relevant end-users and sectors working with the institution. Several projects are under this to aid in the fulfillment of the organization's mandate.
Project 7: Extension and Public Service to the general public
This project is mainly concerned with the general relay and transfer of knowledge and technology of UPLB BIOTECH to relevant stakeholders. The process of transferring these knowledge are through the following activities:
Activity 1: Knowledge sharing activities through lectures and seminars
Activity 2: Coordination and management of visitors
Activity 3: Knowledge sharing activities through exhibits, caravans, and fairs
Project 8: Extension and Public Service to elementary and high school students through DAGITAB (Demonstrations, Activities, Games, and Interactive Teaching for Appreciation of Biotechnology)
This project is aimed at raising awareness and appreciation for young students regarding Biotechnology. This project is essential in providing these students with the necessary information as they could potentially be interested in pursuing this career path in the future. The activities under this project include:
Activity 1: Development of learning modules
Activity 2: Pilot Testing and delivery of learning modules
Project 9: Extension and Public Service to young researchers, professionals, and students through LIYAB (Leveraging Inspiration for Young Aspiring Biotechnologists)
This project serves as an avenue for young aspiring biotechnologists to learn from and put theories into practice. Through this, they are equipped with the necessary skills, knowledge, and experience that could be useful for them and especially when they pursue the profession in the future. This is also an opportunity for the institution to gain not just additional manpower through assistance but also knowledge from young aspiring biotechnologists. Under this project are the following activities:
Activity 1: Capacity building to young researchers, professionals, and students through lectures, talks, and seminars
Activity 2: Facilitation of internships and work immersions
Activity 3: Facilitation of thesis and research students
Project 10: Extension and Public Service for Communities and Local Government Units through BEACONS (BIOTECH Empowerment and Assistance of COmmunities and the Nation for Sustainability)
Aimed at empowering communities and LGUs, this project deals with providing assistance through packaged learning materials, implementation of demonstrations, and improving management practices for relevant stakeholders. The following activities are included in this project:
Activity 1: Development of training module and extension materials
Activity 2: Participatory planning, training, and implementation of experiential learning Activity 3: Establishment of BIOTECH-assisted demonstration community
Activity 4: Process documentation, monitoring, and evaluation
Project 11: Extension and Public Service for Industries and other Institutions through HABI (Hatid Agham at Bioteknolohiya para sa Industriya)
End-users of biotechnology innovation and technology go beyond the usual stakeholders like farmers and local communities as scaling up to reach and connect with more partner organizations will enable them to penetrate and bring biotechnology to a wider market. Activities under this project include:
Activity 1: Building of partnerships and linkages with industries and other institutions
Activity 2: Coordination of collaborative activities with partner industries and institutions
Project 12: Establishment of the Philippine Cosmetic Garden - Phase I
This project aims to establish the initiative of cultivating indigenous plants and other organic sources of raw materials for the sustainability of the bio-based cosmetics industry in the country. Specific activities under this project include:
Activity 1: Establishment of infrastructures and implementation of landscape design in the Philippine Cosmetic Garden
Activity 2: Establishment and maintenance of the gene pool of selected plant species in the Philippine Cosmetic Garden
Activity 3: Characterization of extracts from the plants in the cosmetic garden
Activity 4: Development of promotional and EIC materials for the Philippine Cosmetic Garden
Activity 5: Preparation and showcase of the Cosmetic Garden in the 2025 Asian Societies for Cosmetic Science Conference
