“Boldness comes to me now, and brings me heart.” Troilus and Cressida (III, 2)

Dear Friends, There truly is nothing quite like a summer evening under the HVSF tent, as the afternoon changes to twilight, and actors and audience come together to celebrate timeless stories that reconnect us to what’s most important. For HVSF’s 34th season, we’re going BIG — big titles, with large casts, in bold productions designed to set off gasps of shock and waves of laughter under our tent. In a few short months, our company will be ready to light up the night with stories of heart and humor. So, gather your people, pick a date (or several!), and make plans to be a part of it all. I look forward to seeing you there!

Warmly,

Davis McCallum, Artistic Director

RICHARD III

WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE directed by KURT RHOADS by

Part comedy, part history, part tragedy, Shakespeare’s first masterpiece chronicles the irresistible rise of the Duke of Gloucester and his insatiable desire for power. With longtime company member Kurt Rhoads at the helm, Shakespeare’s “crookback prodigy” will be the kind of villain you love to hate. Watch as Richard schemes and seduces his way to the throne, letting nothing but his own ambition get in his way. JUNE

A WORLD PREMIERE

THE VENETIAN TWINS

CARLO GOLDONI adaptated by CHRISTOPHER BAYES and STEVEN EPP directed by CHRISTOPHER BAYES by

Think of Goldoni’s THE VENETIAN TWINS as the irrepressible Italian cousin of Shakespeare’s own COMEDY OF ERRORS, and you’ve got the basic idea: long-lost twins, and mistaken identities, seasoned with a little extra spice for added comic oomph. But in the hands of celebrated director Christopher Bayes and HVSF’s company of clowns, you have the makings of something truly insane and hilarious. The team that brought you the “deliriously happy-making” THE SERVANT OF TWO MASTERS (Washington Post) will have your funny bone aching from the minute you sit down. JUNE

LOVE’S LABOR’S LOST WILLIAM SHAKESPEARE directed by AMANDA DEHNERT by

Four young noblemen absent themselves from society, in order to focus entirely on their studies. They even take a monastic oath: No girls! All books! But when the Princess of France turns up with three young ladies, how long will the men’s resolve hold up? Director Amanda Dehnert (2018’s PRIDE AND PREJUDICE) infuses Shakespeare’s delightful comedy with an original pop/rock score (by Dehnert and Andre Pluess) that gives full voice to the heart-pounding experience of being young and in love.
