Ladew Topiary Gardens
Monkton, Maryland
Now in its 9th year, Ladew's gardens are filled with illuminated art installations, glowing vignettes and hundreds of amazing jack o' lanterns, dazzling 2,000 guests each night. Family -friendly educational activities, food and libations, live music and other forms of entertainment round out this festive, seasonal celebration.
Ladew Gardens runs carving workshops during the week of Garden Glow. Volunteers come to our sheds and carve. Some people carve one, some people carve many. Some only gut the pumpkins as a way to join in the fun. And some just like to carve. The community comes out in droves Everyone is welcome Consider bringing your employees out for a morning or afternoon as a way to involve your employees and teams in community initiatives.
.
In addition to our amazing volunteers that come out to carve our pumpkins and or donate carved works, we also partner with true artists and "artist types" who also enjoy carving. Owl carving by Val Lucas of Bowerbox Press.
Ladew provides inspiration, tools and pumpkins for those who want to join in the carving fun. Chosen artists are invited to carve 1 of 30 extra large pumpkins that are made available to more serious creatives.
The level of detail in many of the pumpkins is a sight to be seen.
A pumpkin patch of over 500 carved, glowing pumpkins continues to be an event favorite! For 2025 we are continuing to explore different ways to display and present these works of of love.
Every year we partner with a number of fabulous artists who wow our visitors with their creative talents by creating glowing art installations that we sprinkle througout the gardens during the event.
Annie Howe’s papercut panels featured in standalone glowing panels.
A 3D printed glowing unicorn bust provided our gardens with a touch of magic.
New to Garden Glow in 2024, Baltimore artist Kelly Walker created an electrified panel that sat in the center of our garden terrace.
Live event painter Patricia Bennett created a charming painting of a scene at our 2024 Garden Glow..
Sethi and her partner Andy Holtin have been regular contributors to Garden Glow over the years and this year Sethi again brought her magical vignette of glowing botanical cubes that changed colors throughout the night.
Ladew Topiary Garden’s Executive Director Emily Emerick and team often create a Glow for the event. This year, they used projection art as their medium.
The gardens encourage schools to particiate in our event. Oldfields School contributed this year by carving pumpkins and also creating a glow in the dark painting.
Katherine Fayhe continues to make a name for herself creating "crankies." Fayhe presents gorgeous vintage style puppet shows each night featuring different story lines appropriate for a variety of different age groups. Fayhe's crankie puppets continue to be a favorite year after year!
Another fun staple of Garden Glow includes our “circus performers.” 2024 showcased some new entertainment concepts including mirror ball dancers.
For 2024, we continued to grow the breadth and variety of musical artists. We were thrilled to host groups including Wicked Sisters and Paul Gilmore and the Experience.
Local caterers, chefs, farms, breweries, restaurants and food trucks provide a terrific mix of eats and drinks for all of our guests.
In addition to the amazing jack o'lanterns, glowing art installations and food, Ladew's Garden Glow includes other educational experiences that support Ladew’s goal to educate members and guests on the wonders of garden, environmental and nature related topics.
Garden Glow is an excellent sponsorship opportunity. The Garden Glow sponsor benefits are commensurate with the level of investment and include your logo on direct mail pieces, e-blasts, inclusion in social media posts, Garden Glow tickets, visibility on Ladew's website, on-site exposure and other marketing opportunities.
