CARVING WORKSHOPS

Volunteers

Ladew Gardens runs carving workshops during the week of Garden Glow. Volunteers come to our sheds and carve. Some people carve one, some people carve many. Some only gut the pumpkins as a way to join in the fun. And some just like to carve. The community comes out in droves. Everyone is welcome. Consider bringing your employees out for a morning or afternoon as a way to involve your teams in community initiatives

IT IS OUR AMAZING VOLUNTEERS THAT CREATE THE BEAUTIFUL FIELD OF OVER 500 GLOWING JACK O'LANTERNS, A TRUE HIGHLIGHT OF THE EVENT.

JACK O' LANTERNS

TRUE PUMPKIN ART

In addition to our amazing volunteers that come out to carve our pumpkins and or donate carved works, we also partner with true artists and "artist types" who also enjoy carving.

SPECIAL CARVINGS

Ladew provides inspiration, tools and pumpkins for those who want to join in the carving fun. Chosen artists are invited to carve 1 of 20 extra large pumpkins that are made available to more serious artists. Butterfly by Dinah Datsko for Manor Mill.

EXQUISITE DETAIL

The level of detail in many of the pumpkins is a sight to be seen. Artwork and carving by Ray Carter.

500 + PUMPKINS

A pumpkin patch of over 500 carved, glowing pumpkins continues to be an event favorite! For 2024 we are continuing to explore different ways to display and present these works of of love.

ARTISTS

Every year we partner with a number of fabulous artists who wow our visitors with their creative talents by creating glowing art installations for all to enjoy.

Laure Drogoul and her assistant installing her 2023 piece called “COMPASS.”

SCOTT PENNINGTON

Pennington continues to be a loved contributor to our event each year with his carnival inspired pieces.

MICHAEL BOWMAN

We were so excited to have Michael Bowman join us again at Glow this year. A local light artist, Bowman has participated in Burning Man and completed a number of installations over the course of his young career. This year ’ s air powered GLOW WORM proved delightful for both young and old.

GABRIELLE STERN

New to Garden Glow in 2023, recent MICA graduate Gabrielle Stern brought the concept of glowing woven textiles to Ladew this season.

MARIANNE MCLAUGHLIN

McLaughlin joined us for a second year this year and created illustrated botanical panels that she attached to glass in the greenhouse.

SAM SETHI

Sethi and her partner Andy Holtin have been regular contributors to Garden Glow over the years and this year Sethi stepped out on her own and created a magical vignette of glowing botanical cubes that changed colors throughout the night.

ANNIE HOWE

We were happy to welcome back paper cut artist Annie Howe this year who showing intricately cut paper panels of flora and fauna .

Annie Howe will be one of Ladew’s Artist in Residence for the 2024-2025 season.

EMILY EMERICK

Ladew Topiary Garden’s Executive Director

Emily Emerick often creates a Glow for the event. This year, using projection art as her medium, her message was simple: “love is love.”

EDNA EMMET

This year Ladew Gardens welcomed “Red Bird” and its puppeteer Matthew Lawrence. This glowing red bird walked the event for all 4 nights mesmerizing all of our guests.

KATHERINE FAYHE

Katherine Fayhe continues to make a name for herself creating "crankies." Fayhe presents gorgeous vintage style puppet shows each night featuring different story lines appropriate for a variety of different age groups. Fayhe's crankie puppets continue to be a favorite year after year!

IN THE DARK CIRCUS ARTS

Another fun staple of Garden Glow includes our “circus performers.” In addition to our jugglers and hula hoopers, this year we included a “lollipop lyra” for another layer of glowing acrobatic artistry.

LIVE MUSIC

For 2023, we continued to grow the breadth and variety of artists. Our live music offerings were expanded this year to feature an opening group and main stage band each evening along with acoustic musicians playing in the cafe courtyard.

FAMILY FUN

LOCAL GOODNESS

Local caterers, chefs, farms, breweries, restaurants and food trucks provide a terrific mix of eats and drinks for all of our guests.

EDUCATIONAL ACTIVITES

In addition to the amazing jack o'lanterns, glowing art installations and food, Ladew's Garden Glow includes other educational experiences that continue Ladew’s goal to educate members and guests on the wonders of garden and environmental related topics

Here, a rare curcabit sample provided by Tommy Andres, a gourd expert, affiliated with the New York Botanical Garden. He has brought down his very own special collection of specimens for this event for a number of years now.

“Creep crawly creatures of the night are also always a favorite with the kids.
