JACK O' LANTERNS
JACK O'LANTERNS
Artists and volunteers alike come out in droves to create carved art for all to enjoy. Ladew provides inspiration, tools and pumpkins for those that want to join in the carving fun.
EXQUISITE DETAIL
The level of detail in some of the carvings is a sight to be seen.
500 + PUMPKINS
A pumpkin patch of over 500 carved, glowing pumpkins is a recurring event highlight.
HUGH MCMAHON
Professional pumpkin carver Hugh McMahon joined us from New York to showcase his talents. A tribute to MD's Elijah Cummings was a highlight this past year.
ARTISTS
EMILY SCHUBERT
Emily created an eight foot tall glowing coneflower and bee, that was an event favorite.
LAURE DRAGOUL
Laure's installation in the Ladew greenhouse, of glowing plastics, is a reminder to all about our overconsumption.
JOHN RUPPERT
His materials of choice include working in cast metals and manufactured materials such as chain-link fabric. His year-long installation at Ladew was "lit up" to join in the Glow fun!
PATRICIA BENNETT
A live event painter, Patricia painted her first outdoor "live" night time painting at Glow this year. The piece was auctioned off in support of the gardens afterwards.
"CRANKIE"
Artists Katherine Fayhe and Daniel Van Allen created an illuminated old school "crank style" puppet show for guests young and old.
KYLE MILLER
Kyle's illuminated pendulum was another event favorite, leaving guests mesmerized as the orbs followed certain motion patterns.
This lovely lit glass box was created by elementary school kids from Fort Garrison and their teacher Grace Hulsa. This was their 2nd year joining us.
Artists Sam Sethi and Andy Holtin created a glowing butterfly that would flutter across the meadow. Because it was hard to capture images in the dark, we can only show you the super cool activation pad that would make the butterfly fly when touched.
Bryn Mawr School for Girls participated this year and contributed glowing installations. This one below, created from bamboo and dowel rods had mini hanging lanterns on it.
Amelia Grace, a recent graduate from MICA and an illustrator by trade, tried her hand in creating a "supernatural" inspired 3d glowing installation.
FAMILY FUN
LOCAL GOODNESS
Live music, eats and drinks finished off the event. Woody Pines, a bluegrass band from Nashville headlined both evenings.
GLOWING ENTERTAINMENT
Magical, glowing stilt walkers, jugglers and hoola hoopers strolled the grounds throughout the evening.
ANIMALS OF THE NIGHT
In addition to the glowing art, pumpkins, food, music and drinks, every year we include educational components for kids.
GOURDS GALORE
New York Botanical Gardens' Tommy Andres, a curcurbit expert, showcased a selection of over 100 unique specimens.
