m East London Clapton Community FC was founded in 2018 with a fan-owned democratic model All of the club’s 1500+ members are able to vote on important issues and get involved in the running of the club by joining committees - such as Community and Outreach, Comms, or Grounds.
Clapton Community FC play home games at the Old Spotted Dog Ground, London’s oldest senior football ground In Autumn 2019 they were handed the lease and a few months later, the club bought the freehold After years of work by passionate and determined volunteers, the dilapidated ground has been repaired and refurbished Both the men’s and women’s first teams have moved into the ground permanently during the last season
The women’s first team play in the sixth tier, the London & South East Regional Women’s League Division 1 North The club also has men’s and women’s development teams, beginners, 5s, inclusive youth teams, open training sessions for women and young people, and even a cricket team
The men’s first team won promotion to the Middlesex Counties Football League Premier from Division One (Central & East) in 2018/19, their first season. Attendances were unprecedented at the level, averaging over 400 and peaking when 1,266 fans watched the 3-0 win over FC Roast to clinch the title. In that season the team also won the club’s first ever cup trophy: the Jim Rogers Cup - defeating Hilltop on penalties.
In 2021/22 the team finished third in the MCFL Premier league, but again won silverware in the Alec Smith Cup - again dramatically, on penalties after dragging the game back to 2-2 from 2-0 down
Meanwhile that season the women's first team made history by being the first seventh tier team to reach the third round of the Women's FA Cup They set another record, becoming the first ever to beat a team from four divisions higher The run saw wins against higher division Haringey Borough, Biggleswade United, Bedford Town and Hounslow, finally ending away at Plymouth Argyle
The men’s first team won promotion from the MCFL Premier League to the Thurlow Nunn Division One South in 2022/23 winning the title by eight points. The promotion was achieved on the pitch in front of 902 fans against Kensington Dragons, though it wasn’t sealed until a month later when the ground passed its ground grading.
As the name Clapton Community suggests, having a positive impact on the local community beyond football is key to the club’s activities The club’s charity partner is the Magpie Project, supporting mums and young children in Newham Fans collect for foodbanks and have donated thousands to good causes
The club gained a lot of media attention in the UK and beyond due to the success of their purple, red and yellow away kit, a homage to the International Brigades who volunteered to fight for democracy in the Spanish Civil War This went viral and over 16,000 shirts were sold A new home kit for the 2022/23 season was chosen by a member poll from a selection of kits that club members designed and submitted
In 2021 Clapton Community FC won the Football Supporters Association Lockdown Heroes Award in recognition of the Hardship Fund, Clapton Against Coronavirus. Members paid in what they could afford, and those in need were able to take out small amounts to help cover key expenses. Since March 2020 over £15,000 has been donated and distributed. In 2023 the club won the Non-League Paper’s Community Club of the Year award.

Recent history has seen more rapid developments at the club The Football Association awarded Hutton FC with Charter Standard Community status which is the highest accreditation a club can achieve In 2005, when the award was granted, there were only nine clubs in the whole of Essex with this status. It was another entertaining game on Saturday, against a side with some experienced non league players.
I thought we started the game very well and controlled the first 45 minutes The boys showed how eager they were to carry on our run and stuck to the game plan I thought we were unlucky not to be 2/3 up after the two goals were ruled offside
We needed to carry this on into the second half but Tower Hamlets come out and gave it a good go After their goal, we weathered the storm and remained hard to break down
The winning mentality we mentioned last week then kicked in and helped us grow back into the game. The lads showed great character and stuck together when they really needed to
It has been nice this week to welcome Kyle Linzell (who retired last season), back into the set up as a coach/sub. We also welcomed Tom Stephens back over to assist with some pre match duties and get involved in a light warm up as part of his rehab
It was also really good to see some old Hutton faces in the crowd. Nick Outen and James Welphdale were a part of the promotion team that put Hutton back into the Olympian Premier Hopefully we will see more of that side come over to support throughout the season
Finally, congratulations to Stephen on making his competitive debut for us at the age of 17 He signed for us from Heybridge swifts u18s and made a good impact when he come on

A Pathway is vital at any level of football and we have made it our priority over the last few years to ensure that we improve ours. We want our youth players to progress through the age groups and one day play for our 1st team or one of our other senior sides.
My role at the club is to ensure that this takes place. In this process we identify what level of players we have at the club and highlight the players who could potentially make that step up to senior football For this to happen I attend a lot of training sessions at all age groups, as well as matches. With over 70 teams at the club, this isn’t an easy task!
Last season our pathway had huge success, with two 16-year-olds making their debut for the first team, Freddie Miller and Henry Silvester both progressed through our youth set up and played for our EJA side at u15 (20/21 season) and u16 (21/22 season). From there they progressed fully into our senior set up with the occasional appearance for our EJA U18 side Last season, both players were part our the 1st teams title winning squad which were promoted to the Thurlow Nunn.
We also had another seven players who progressed into our senior section. Ryan Quinan, Harrison Connor, Nelson Hakeem, Riley Hyams, Jack Mckinnon, Pranav Ramanathan and Jack Thomas all made their debut last season at the age of 16 and 17
On top of that, we were very proud to see our U16 EJA side managed by Jamie Bowler and Greig Mclachlan have a very strong season, narrowly losing in the Essex Cup Final, which they led for the majority of the game and the Plate cup final. This team have been progressing extremely well and had some standout performers, with Jaden Tucker winning the 'Players player' and 'Parents player' award. Max Brunger won the 'managers player' award and Callum Cathline winning the golden boot. We have high hopes for this team and we have no doubt that some of these players will be making their senior debuts very soon.
Mario Allen – Technical Development ManagerWe have been a team since the boys were U9. They are a great bunch of lads who are improving each day. They love the game, they come up with some great celebrations together when they score, and enjoy each others company - which has turned into some good friendships.
They are most certainly the loudest when it comes to the three cheers at the end of the game - win, lose or draw. Credit to all of them for that.
We have had a lot of new players join our team along the way, some of whom only started playing football last year, so for us to reach the semi-final of our division cup and come third in our league was a great achievement!
