Four years ago, Hutton Football Club embarked on an ambitious journey. With a clear five-year plan to reach Step 5 of the National League System, the club set itself a challenging target. It was a vision built on hard work, commitment, belief and, above all, a determination to build something special for Hutton Football Club and the wider community. Last season, that vision became reality. Following promotion from the Essex Olympian League to the Thurlow Nunn League, our incredible squad went on to achieve what we had all dreamed of — winning the league title on the final day of the season and securing our place at Step 5. To achieve that within four years is a remarkable accomplishment. To do it in the manner this group has done it makes it even more special. And now, as we look ahead, Hutton Football Club is entering another hugely significant chapter in its history. Founded in 1928, the club is approaching its centenary. As we look towards 100 years of Hutton Football Club, we can now celebrate another historic milestone — our entry into the FA Cup, one of the most prestigious and iconic competitions in world football. For everyone connected with Hutton, this is a moment to be proud of. But achievements such as these do not happen because of one individual or one group. They are the result of everyone pulling in the same direction, sharing the same belief and putting the club before themselves. On behalf of the Board and Trustees of Hutton Football Club, we would like to place on record our sincere thanks to every person who has played a part in this extraordinary journey. To our players, thank you for your commitment, professionalism and desire to win. You have represented the club with tremendous pride and have created memories that will stay with Hutton for many years to come. To our managers and coaching staff, thank you for your leadership, preparation and countless hours behind the scenes. To our Strength & Conditioning team, physiotherapists and medical staff, thank you for the work that often goes unseen but is absolutely vital to the success of the team. And to our many volunteers and behind-the-scenes supporters, thank you. Football clubs simply do not function without people willing to give their time, energy and expertise. Your contribution is every bit as important as what happens on the pitch. We must also give thanks to Billericay Town FC for the use of their exceptional facilities and our ongoing relationship. Hutton Football Club is built differently to most other clubs. It is something that is difficult to explain until you have experienced it yourself. Once you become part of Hutton, you understand that this is about far more than football. It is about people, relationships, loyalty, shared values and a genuine sense of belonging. That unique spirit has helped take this club from a five-year plan to Step 5 football in just four years. There is, however, no time to rest on our achievements. The coming season brings new challenges, new competitions and new opportunities. The FA Cup awaits, alongside another exciting campaign of league football, and we have every confidence that this group will embrace every challenge that comes their way. As we celebrate what has already been achieved, we also look forward with enormous excitement to what comes next. To the players, managers, coaches, S&C team, physios, volunteers and everyone who has contributed to this journey — thank you. You have helped write another important chapter in the history of Hutton Football Club. As we approach our centenary, we are proud of where we have come from, proud of where we are today, and hugely excited about where we are going. We wish the team every success in all competitions this season. Enjoy the journey. Embrace the challenge. Make history. Up the Ton’s! The Board & Trustees Hutton Football Club

C F C I T E L H T A GRAYS CLUB HISTORY Although the formation of Grays Athletic is officially 1890, its origins can be traced back to 1888, when the Grays Amateur Athletic Club, which was primarily a cricket and athletic club, formed an association football branch. The modern club can be traced back to the Grays Juniors side formed in 1902, who in 1904 changed their name to Grays Athletic, who in 1906 took over the Grays Recreation Ground, the club's spiritual home for the next 104 years. Senior Status was granted in 1909, whilst in 1912 the club became a founding member of the Athenian League. Over the last hundred years, the club has experienced a roller-coaster ride. Plenty of highs, along with lows, which at times have threatened the club's existence. During the 1920’s the club would experience its first boom period, winning the London League three times (1922, 1927 and 1930), as well as two Essex Senior Cup triumphs (1921 and 1923), to add to their first in 1915. Towards the end of World War Two, the club would experience its next successful era, led by centre-forward, Harry Brand, who would go on to become the club's record scorer with 269 goals scored between 1944 and 1952. Inspired by his goals, the Blues would win the East Anglian Cup and another Essex Senior Cup in 1945. The club would also win the inaugural, Corinthian League Championship, a league which as well as being founder members they were instrumental in forming. The club re-joining the Athenian League in 1958 would herald a decline in fortunes, as during the late sixties and 1970’s the club was locked in a struggle with the trustees of the Recreation Ground to secure the future of the venue. This was finally resolved in 1981, when club patron, Ron Billings was persuaded to buy the ground by then club director Bryan Coker and Jeff and Fred Saxton, who were the club's joint-managers at the time. With the future of the ground secured the club was about to enter another period of success. Businessman Jim Myers, owner of the Boys from Rathbone Street, retail chain, was persuaded to come aboard as the new chairman and he set a target of Isthmian Premier Division football, within five years (it would take six years!). The first step in getting there was achieved in 1983, when the club finished as runners-up in the Athenian League, earning promotion to Division Two of the Isthmian League. Though just when it seemed the club's troubles had gone, disaster struck when the 400-seater wooden stand was burned to the ground after gracing the Rec for over sixty years. This though would incite Mr Billings to undertake ground improvements, which would include new changing rooms and a ballcourt and bar development.

The 1984-85 season would see the Blues secure the Isthmian League Division Two South Title, with three years later promotion to the Isthmian Premier Division being achieved after finishing as runners-up to Marlow despite gaining 100 points during the season. The club would enjoy a nine-season stay in the Premier Division, with two fifth places, in their first two seasons at that level being the highest. In 1992, the Isthmian League Cup was won, defeating league runnersup Enfield 3-1 in the final held at Dagenham’s, Victoria Road Ground. Sadly in 1997, the Blues were relegated back to Division One, with the final match of the season seeing long-standing managers, Jeff and Fred Saxton step down from their roles and also the playing retirement of the holder of the club appearances record, Phil Sammons (748 appearances), after fifteen seasons with the Blues. The clubs most successful period came in the early to mid-2000’s, with the arrival of Mick Woodward as a director. When former Tottenham Hotspur midfielder, Mark Stimson, stepped up as manager in 2002, it would herald a period of success, that no one at the club had dared to dream. The Blues were founder members of the new Conference South in the 2004-05 season and were its first champions, securing promotion to the top level of the non-league game, for the first time in its history. For good measure, the FA Trophy was also won, when Hucknall Town were defeated 6-5 on penalties, after extra-time had ended 1-1, in the final held at Villa Park.

CLUB HISTORY With players such as Jamie Stuart, Stuart Thurgood, Aaron McLean and Michael Kightly, the Blues finished their first top-flight season in third place. The end of season play-offs were reached, but unfortunately a poor display in the first twenty minutes of the first (away) leg of the semi-final, saw the Blues dream of EFL football ended by Halifax Town, 5-4 on aggregate. The FA Trophy was retained, with the Blues winning it the hard way, by going through the entire competition, only facing Conference National opponents. The final, which was held at West Ham’s, Boleyn Ground, saw nearly ten thousand Blues fans in the attendance of 14,000. First-half goals from Michael Kightly and Glenn Poole, would send them home happy, with Grays defeating Woking by two goals to nil. Shortly after the season had ended, Mark Stimson and his assistant manager, Scott Barrett, stepped down from their roles. They were replaced by former Leeds United player, Frank Gray, although his reign was short, lasting until October, when he was sacked shortly after a defeat by Bromley, in the FA Cup. It was a season where the star players of the previous few years moved on, with the club being involved in a fight against relegation from Christmas. By the season's end, former Tottenham defender, Justin Edinburgh was in charge and the Blues just avoided relegation on the final day of the season. By the 2009-10 season, Mick Woodward had stepped down as Chairman, though still owned most of the shares. Former West Ham midfielder, John Moncur became the new Chairman, joined by his friend and local businessman, Andy Swallow, who became vice-chairman. Woodward would start the season as CEO, but would end his involvement in the club by November. Andy Swallow stepped in to keep the club running. By the end of the campaign, the club finished bottom. Faced with a substantial increase in the rent, the club vacated its home ground of the Recreation Ground after 104 years, whilst rather than dropping to the Conference South, the club instead wanted to drop a further division to the Isthmian Premier Division. With it being Grays Athletic though, nothing is ever smooth and when the league allocations were revealed, Grays were initially placed in the Essex Senior League. After an appeal to the FA held at Wembley Stadium, the Blues eventually were placed in the Isthmian North Division, a drop of three levels. Since then, the club has led a nomadic existence, sharing first at East Thurrock United’s, Rookery View Ground (20102012). For a season, the club held the lease at the former Ford United stadium at Rush Green, which was owned by West Ham, but this deal ended in acrimony. Though it did see the club win the Isthmian League North Division and promotion back to the Premier Division. For the next ten seasons, Aveley F.C. hosted the club's matches. Firstly, at their old Millfield ground, then at their new Parkview Stadium. Since 2016 the club has been supporter owned, after Andy Swallow agreed to write off his interests in the club and pass them to the fans to run the club. For seven seasons, longtime Grays supporter, Steve Skinner was chairman, with another long-standing supporter, Glyn Jarvis being vicechairman. Currently the club is under the guidance of Lee Vehit in the chairman’s role, assisted by Gavin Holland as vice-chairman. For the past three seasons we have been ground sharing with our local neighbours, Tilbury, at their EMR Stadium, but the club expects completion of the deal to take over the former home ground of the now defunct Thurrock F.C. at Ship Lane, shortly into the new season. Under the guidance of former player, Mitch Hahn as the new team manager, assisted by former Blues in Ash Miller and Lewis Clark, we hope to go into the Ship Lane era of the club on the up, providing good quality senior football to the people of Grays district, as well as engaging in the local community to provide opportunities for everyone to enjoy our great game.

N O T T U H B U L C L L A B T O O F Hutton Football Club is an FA Charter Standard Community Football Club. Being part of our community is important to the Club. We expect everyone connected with the Club to be respectful, disciplined and responsible. Our young players will learn the game in a positive environment. Hutton FC is a Club, a team, a family, not individuals.

HUTTON FC HISTORY

The club was founded in 1928 and has been prominent in local football since that time with cup winner’s medals dating back to 1932. A key factor in the continued success of Hutton Football Club is the progression of young, local players. The senior teams played in the Mid Essex League until 1989 when progression was made into the Essex Intermediate, now the Essex Olympian League. The Club expanded rapidly after 2005 with the merger of Hutton FC and Hutton Medway FC (established in 1969). The Club now has over 70 teams based in our local community. Recent history has seen more rapid developments at the club. The Football Association awarded Hutton FC with Charter Standard Community status which is the highest accreditation a club can achieve. In 2005, when the award was granted, there were only nine clubs in the whole of Essex with this status. The Club is very proud to have been awarded Community Club of the year twice by Essex County FA. The club has been encouraging girls to come and play for a number of years. In 2005 the first official Hutton girls’ team was formed and since then our Ladies 1st and reserve teams have been added to help with progression. The Club has been involved in a European Tournament played against professional clubs youth teams with outstanding facilities. The Clubs are; Saint Ingbert (Germany), Rumelange (Luxembourg) and Zandhoven (Belgium). The tournament celebrates its 50th year in 2025. The club house has been at the Polo Fields for over 50 years two previous buildings being destroyed by fire the second one having been struck by lightning. In 2010 the Clubhouse was vandalized and set on fire but repaired and enhanced thanks to a large grant from Sport England. The Polo Fields Clubhouse finally suffered its fate in 2025 when it was demolished due to structural issues. The new home for the club see us at Flints Community Sports Hub where we have a new clubhouse, an excellent playing surface for multiple pitches from 3v3 to 11v11. This project was completed in association with the Football Foundation in 2025. On the pitch, our senior men’s 1st team won the EOFL premier division 2022 / 23 season gaining promotion to the NLS playing in the Thurlow Nunn league south. After 2 consecutive seasons reaching play off positions the team were promoted as Champions to the Essex Senior League 25 /26.

THE ROSEY REPORT

MATT ROSE, FIRST TEAM MANAGER Afternoon all, It’s great to be back at New Lodge this afternoon as we welcome Grays Athletic in the preliminary round of the FA Cup. This season is the club’s first ever involvement in the FA Cup, and to have already progressed through the previous round is another fantastic milestone for Hutton. We’ve enjoyed the journey so far, but our focus now is firmly on today and doing everything we can to keep that journey going. We know the quality of the squad that Mitch has put together this season and we’re expecting another tough and competitive game. But we come into today with plenty of belief in ourselves and, playing here at New Lodge, we’ll be looking to impose ourselves on the game and put in a performance that reflects the standards we’ve set. FA Cup days are special occasions and these are exactly the games we want to be involved in. As always, thank you for your continued support. Please get right behind the lads this afternoon, make plenty of noise and let’s make New Lodge a difficult place for Grays Athletic to come. Up The Tons Rosey
