Founded in 1878, Coggeshall Town is the joint second oldest original football club in Essex. Known as "The Seedgrowers" due to local ties with seed merchant J.K. King & Sons, the club began playing at Mynheer Park before eventually settling at Highfields, which served as their home for 65 years
In the early years, Coggeshall played in local competitions like the Essex Junior Cup and North Essex League, where they enjoyed considerable success, winning the NEL 14 times by 1939 After WWII, the club transitioned through several local leagues and grew a strong supporter base. The 1950s and ’60s brought further stability and success, including league and cup wins under various managers and a permanent move to their current ground, “The Crops”
Financial struggles and the potential loss of their ground in 1981 were overcome through community fundraising, ultimately securing ownership of their facilities with the help of local councils and supporters
The club continued fluctuating through regional leagues until a major turning point in 2013–14, when local businessman Graeme Smith joined and later became first-team manager Under his leadership, the club saw rapid progress on and off the pitch, including ground improvements and a surge in community engagement. Pop star Olly Murs joined as joint owner in 2017, investing further in facilities
On the pitch, Coggeshall achieved back-to-back promotions between 2015 and 2018, reaching the Isthmian League Division One North for the first time in their history They also debuted in national competitions like the FA Cup and FA Trophy and reached the league play-offs in 2018–19.
However, the momentum was disrupted by the COVID-19 pandemic, which cut short two promising seasons The following years saw managerial changes, player turnover, and inconsistent performances, leading to two successive relegations by 2024.
In the 2024–25 season, with a new management team led by Dave Harrison, the club rebuilt once again A slow start turned into a strong finish, with 12 wins in the final 18 games and narrowly missing out on the play-offs a significant achievement for a newly formed side. Supporter enthusiasm returned, attendances rose, and optimism was restored
Heading into the 2025–26 season, most of the squad has stayed on, and there’s a renewed sense of belief among fans that the club is ready to challenge once more.

The current club house has been at the Polo Fields for over 50 years, two previous buildings being destroyed by fire, and the second one having been struck by lightning In 2010, the Clubhouse was vandalised and set on fire but has now been repaired and enhanced thanks to a large grant from Sport England.
Recent history has seen more rapid developments at the club The Football Association awarded Hutton FC with Charter Standard Community status which is the highest accreditation a club can achieve. In 2005, when the award was granted, there were only nine clubs in the whole of Essex with this status The Club is very proud to have been awarded Community Club of the year twice by Essex County FA The club has been encouraging girls to come and play for a number of years, and in 2005 the first official Hutton girls’ team was formed and since then, our Ladies 1st and reserve teams have been added to help with progression.

I Wednesday night saw us take on my former side, AS London, and it was great to see so many familiar faces both on and off the pitch. As expected, the game was full of quality, drama, and entertainment everything you want from a midweek fixture under the lights.
We found ourselves 2-0 down with just 15 minutes to go, but what followed was an incredible display of resilience, character, and sheer desire from the lads. To come back and win the game 3-2 in such dramatic fashion really brought the team together and showed what this group is all about. I'm incredibly proud of how the boys dug deep and turned the game around when the odds were stacked against us.
That said, like any other result good or bad we put it behind us and shift our focus to the next challenge.
On Saturday, we face a well-organised and talented Coggeshall Town side. We’re expecting another tough game, and I’ve no doubt the boys will be ready for it.
From a personal point of view, I’d love to see us keep a clean sheet this weekend. That’s the next step forward for us tightening up defensively while continuing to build on the spirit and momentum we've shown.
Up the Tons!
