dear friends, We applaud, celebrate, and wish the best success to the Class of 2016, a passionate group of young women whose joyful spirits and zest for life have left an indelible mark on our school.

As their teachers, coaches, and peers challenged, inspired, and called them higher, these girls rose to the occasion, demonstrating a grit and resilience that will serve them well in college and life. Through hard work and perseverance, they gained admission to 110 colleges and universities (including 26 honors programs) and earned more than $8.25 million in scholarship awards.

Because of demonstrated excellence in academics, athletics, and the arts, 89 percent of this class earned merit scholarships—no small feat given the fierce competitiveness of college admissions in our country.

While these girls will begin exciting new chapters of their lives this fall, I trust that their time spent at Hutchison will prove only more precious with each passing year. As generations of our alumnae often attest, the experiences they had, the interests they developed, and the friendships they formed at Hutchison helped shape their remarkable lives.

Dr. Margaret West Hodges attended Hutchison School from kindergarten through high school, graduating in 2001. She received a Bachelor of Science in marine biology from Auburn University, graduating summa cum laude, and her Doctorate of Medicine from the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences. Dr. Hodges completed her residency in pediatrics with the University of Tennessee College of Medicine/LeBonheur Children’s Hospital and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital and is currently a pediatrician with Pediatric Consultants/LeBonheur Pediatrics. She recently married and resides in Memphis with her husband, Reese Hodges, and their three large dogs.

Carolyn Simpson The Russell Award, established in memory of Mr. Edward P. Russell, former chair of the Hutchison Board of Trustees, recognizes the senior who, through leadership and devotion to the ideals on which the School was founded, brings honor to herself and to Hutchison.

Candidates are nominated by the faculty and staff, and the recipient is selected by the administration.

Eliza Sims The Ideal Hutchison Girl award honors the senior who best exemplifies the qualities of the ideal woman as described in Proverbs 31. The senior class nominates candidates, and the upper school student body elects the recipient.
