Welcome!

Welcome to the latest edition of the High Performance magazine for Spring /Summer.

I hope everyone is enjoying some sunshine and a break from one of the wettest winters I’ve ever experienced.

We couldn’t have picked a wetter period of time to starting earthworks for our new facility at Daroobalgie (Forbes) if we had tried! Despite the delays with the wet winter things are finally starting to take shape. We have the frame up, and we are making good progress now. We are still confident with the original time frame and hope to be moving in early 2017.

The other exciting piece of news I wanted to share with you was that on November 11th we completed the acquisition of Harts Machinery, the John Deere dealer in Orange NSW. We welcome the Harts Machinery staff into the Hutcheon & Pearce team. I look forward to meeting as many of the customers in the Orange area as I can. From all of the extended team at H&P we look forward to supporting you in the future.

2016 Hutcheon & Pearce

European Adventure Finally we hit the 29th of May and it’s all systems go.

“Yes I’ve got your passport”, “Yes I turned the iron off”, “No, I don’t have your Wallet, look in your pocket”!

World Travel can be tough!

But as 43 Hutcheon & Pearce customers and 4 Staff members were soon to find out, that doesn’t need to be the case.

After setting off from Griffith, Wagga and Albury Airports the Group were finally one Team and all corralled at Sydney Airport getting a final briefing from Kellie and her Crew from Wildlime Marketing.

All aboard the A380 and were ready for blast off.

Next stop Changi Airport, Singapore. Not yet half way, but a chance to stretch the legs. And if there was ever an Airport made for leg stretching, Changi is it. For those that strode it out and avoided the travelators, the Fit Bits were maxing out.

Soon we’re on a Boeing 777 to Munich were we are met by our Tour Guide, Mary-Anne complete bright orange bus and professional driver.

After a guided tour of Munich and a welcome taste of locally baked Pretzels we were off and running on our 13 Day Adventure.

What an amazing drive through the Bavarian countryside as we traversed beautiful country roads and with the Snow Capped Austrian Alps as a back drop we had spectacular scenery at every turn.

A few days in Bavaria spent visiting some amazing Churches and Castles gave us all a fantastic insight of the magnificent history of the area.

Of course Germany is the home of Beer and we found plenty of opportunity to partake in the local Food and Beverage. We did get a laugh while sitting in a German Pub drinking Peroni and Eating Pizza.

The time has come to do some work and after all this is a Farm Trip. So it’s off to the John Deere Mannheim Factory to see the production of 5,6 and 7000 series Tractors, an amazing factory that can push a Tractor off the production line around every 3 minutes. A live demonstration of new transmission technology had us viewing a 6170M tractor at full steam

Next stop is John Deere Zwiebrucken Factory which is the European Manufacturing Base for Combine Harvesters. This factory has produced John Deere combine Harvesters since the 1960’s and is the Factory responsible for S-Series Combines supplied to our Australian Customers.

We were not only lucky to see the factory in full production, with a Combine leaving the plant every 45 minutes, but a number of machines were being built for delivery to Australia.

A manufacturer that Hutcheon and Pearce hold in high regard is Kuhn. A visit to their factory was a must do, so the time had come to make our way to France.

Kuhn had pulled out all stops, and after a visit to a local Farm to see equipment in action we then headed into Saverne for a tour of their production facilities. A highlight for many on the trip, this factory, while not brand new was jammed packed with some of the latest engineering and production equipment available. With a fully operating foundry producing gearbox castings, Kuhn is able to manufacture almost all components in house.

Next stop Strasbourg, a magnificent city dominated by the Cathedral of Notre Dame which was by far a highlight for me. Certainly a place I would return for a longer visit if the opportunity arose.

We make our way to Paris wondering what we will find with news of local flooding high on everyone’s minds. We arrive in the City to find that the Seine River was dropping and other than a missed opportunity for a River Cruise Paris was all systems go.

With just 2 Days before the Kick off for Euro 2016 Soccer there was a buzz around Paris that was quite exciting. Our Hotel was at the base of the Eiffel Tower and this put us very close to the Fan Zone which was due to be packed with 10’s of thousands of Soccer Supporters for the next month.

A night out at Moulin Rouge got a few hearts racing. It was certainly a night out to remember and I now must admit I now know what all the fuss is about.

We now say goodbye to some of the group who are heading back home, or off on extended Journeys around Europe. For the remaining 28 or so it’s all aboard the Euro Train for a high Speed trip under the English Channel for a few days in the UK. First stop is Bury St Edmunds and a visit to the Shelbourne Reynolds Factory, home of the Stripper Front. The crew at Shelbourne Reynolds provided their usual hospitality and it was great to see were these innovative machines are manufactured.

Last stop is London for a couple of Days to see the sights and unwind before heading home or starting new adventures after leaving the rest of the group. We enjoyed guided tours of London including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and Hyde Park.

Hutcheon and Pearce will be offering a 13 Day Tour of Europe again in 2017.

NEW Employees Welcome to all our new Employees. These are just some of the people that make up our JDNA. We have a great team of people working with us, and we are looking forward to welcoming our new team-members from Orange!

Joel Watterson – Service Technician – Temora: Joel joined the Temora team in early June. He has recently relocated to Temora with his family.

Joel did his apprenticeship with Chesterfield Australia in Dubbo, specialising in cotton pickers and headers. Joel is looking forward to meeting new customers and furthering his experience with harvesting equipment.

James Craig – Group Network and Systems Administrator – SRO: I manage all the internal IT support for Hutcheon and Pearce. I moved down to Wagga from the central coast area, about one hour north of Sydney, where I studied and have been working in IT for the past 10 years. I have enjoyed learning how much technology has changed the Ag industry and how important IT is for farmers to get the most out of their farms.

Adrianna Campbell – Branch and Sales Administrator – Wagga Wagga: I am happily married with 2 beautiful children. Before I commenced my employment with Hutcheon & Pearce I worked as a Client Services Officer for Twomeys Accountants. I am enjoying learning all about the different types of farm machinery and working with the great friendly people here at Hutcheon & Pearce

Mitchell Lang – Wholegoods Analyst – SRO: I’m 22 years old and born and bred in Wagga Wagga. I’m the new Wholegoods Analyst so I’ll be looking after JDF Settlements, John Deere payments, analysing inventory holdings and inventory margins whilst also providing help with invoicing. I’ve come from an accounting background after spending four years working in audit at a local accounting firm. I’m enjoying working at Hutcheon & Pearce due to the variety of work and also the friendly and welcoming team we have here.

Brady Collins – Service Technician – Wagga Wagga: Brady has come from Wagga Motors and brings with him a wide range of diagnostic and mechanical skills . A keen interest in the agricultural side of the business attracted him, along with excellent working conditions and facilities available in the Wagga workshop.

Brady, along with his partner, have lived in Wagga for the past two years. Brady hopes to further his career by becoming more involved in the Tech side of the operation.

Michael Roberts – Parts Interpreter – Wagga Wagga: I work in the Parts Department at Hutcheon and Pearce Wagga Wagga. I have recently relocated to Wagga from Cootamundra where I was working for Agland Industries as Service Advisor/Parts Assistant for Trucks and Machinery. What I enjoy most about working for Hutcheon and Pearce is the job satisfaction, supportive team and great opportunities that the company has to offer.

Johan Van Der Walt – Service Technician – Finley: My name is Johan Van Der Walt, although everyone calls me Joe. I’m from South Africa where I was mostly working on trucks and earth-moving equipment. I’ve been a qualified Diesel Mechanic for the last 8 years and am passionate about my career. It has been a lifelong dream for me to come and live and work in Australia and thanks to Hutcheon and Pearce this was made possible. I work with a great team here at the Finley branch and appreciate the fact that there is always a pair of hands willing to help if you need it. There is great support from management and a good system to work with. I enjoy the fact that there is always a new challenge!

Charlie Elliston – Service Technician – Griffith: I am a senior technician, as in “senior”, at the Griffith Branch and I have been here since March. I am married

with two children (my son did most of his apprenticeship with A&G) and three grandsons who all now live in Victoria. We moved to the Griffith area in 1989 from Tasmania to manage a rice and sheep farm for a while and then I worked for the Case dealership to catch up on my mechanical skills. I then went into the wine industry as a Vineyard and Machinery Manager until the opportunity arose to be the Service Manager for the John Deere dealership in Rockhampton Queensland. We were up there for seven and a half years, but due to a number of circumstances we decided to come “home”.

It is a lot colder here at this time of year but the food is so much better and catching up properly with family and friends is great. I am enjoying going through a whole new learning curve with the larger tractors and the cotton pickers than I have experienced before.

Aaron Tuckett - I’ve been operating various machines over the last 10yrs, from sandvic drill rigs to all brand excavators. I’ve also been helping out family friends on their farms at harvest times with header driving or bin driving or in the truck for the occasional load to the grain storage….

I enjoy my out of work time with my wife and 3 kids; fishing, camping ,water skiing, hunting, motorcycle riding and making family salami!

I have really enjoyed joining H&P as I have a keen interest in repairing and maintaining all types of machinery, LARGE or SMALL! Tom Watson - I worked for Milbrae quarries for 3 years, spent 3 years in Queensland on cattle stations, and drove laser buckets for a farmer in Benerembah.

I came to Hutcheon & Pearce for a change of career, it had always been a passion dealing in agriculture and to come to an industry where I can deal with machinery in agriculture was right up my alley.

I enjoy fishing and water skiing and spending time with my dogs and horses.

AEM 2016 - A different perspective On Tuesday August 8th, Hutcheon & Pearce made company History. For the first time since the merger Hutcheon & Pearce employees came together as one to network, share ideas and learn about where we have come from and where we are going to.

The event was a logistical challenge, coordinating several bus loads of HP employees to the Wagga Wagga Civic Precinct from all Southern and Western NSW. It was essential that everything went according to the very detailed and specific plans put in place by Arron and the management team and these were precisely delivered by the amazing Brooke McCormack (currently on maternity leave). Arron said about the lead up to the event, he was “nervous and a little apprehensive - it just had to go right”.

The day started with a lunch which enabled all employees to gather, meet and network. Some employees meeting face to face only for the first time after having worked together for years. Employees ate, drank and socialised, sharing ideas and chatting about all things HP, with many anxious and excited for the meeting ahead... what was coming?

The meeting itself was lead by our own Andrew Sands, and the master of ceremonies heard from the Managing Director, Arron Hutcheon; the newest edition to our board of directors, Harold Norman; the Managing Director of John Deere Limited Australia, Peter Wanckel; and Graham Barron of AgMan Partners.

The main focus of the meeting was to share who we are as Hutcheon & Pearce, where we have come from, where we are going and how we are going to get there. The key speakers gave personal insight into their journey and emphasised how important our journey is as a collective to achieving the strategic goals of the company and our stakeholders.

When asked how he felt the day went and had it met his expectations Arron said he felt the event “had been an enjoyable day, for the first time we had the opportunity to bring all of Hutcheon & Pearce together to reflect back and look forward”. Harold Norman too felt the day was an amazing opportunity for all involved “It was absolutely outstanding - so much interest was displayed by those there, some great questions were asked and the food was good” he said.

The day concluded with dinner and drinks under the stars, musical entertainment provided by Wagga’s own Charles Patterson and more socialising and networking. The TECSight team were out in force taking happy snaps to document the day and it gave Wattie the perfect excuse to show off his new drone skills. See the great photos above and below!

Plans are already in place for next years event which will be just as big and exciting as 2016. After the AEM Harold was out and about visiting each branch and taking time getting to know as many HP employees as possible.

Harold said he “really enjoyed visiting the branches and looking forward to meeting more and more employees as his journey continues”.

Our usual site saw quite a bit of traffic over the 3 days of the event. Enquiries about machines heading into harvest were strong and the Compact Tractors gained a lot of enquiries following the launch of our new warranty.

So much happened in 3 days! On the first day of the Henty Machinery Field Days we had unexpectedly good weather, the coffee was great and the coffee cups were everywhere, attendees were upbeat and of course we released our Hutcheon & Pearce 10 year or 1000 Hour Warranty on compact and 5 Series Tractors.

Wednesday was in stark contrast to the glorious weather of Tuesday with rain and a cold breeze for most of the day.

Only the most committed walked the slippery roads and the clothing of choice was gumboots and raincoats!

Thursday saw the weather turn again and the sun coupled with a cool breeze meant we had a great turnout! The big screen was pumping, the Top Gun Henty Challenge found a winner with an amazing time, we drew a winner for the Ronald McDonald House draw, and all in all everyone had a great day.

We would like to thank everyone who came to visit us. We met good people from all areas and a great time was had by all! See you all again at Henty 2017!

Forbes Flagship Store 2016 “There was movement in the industry as word has gotten around that the Hutcheon & Peace commitment to the north has started breaking ground...”

What could possibly elicit poetry from our Parkes Branch Manager, Barry Reidy? Breaking ground at the site of our Flagship store outside Forbes would do it!

As you can see below the new build is looking good, but it hasn’t been

without its trials - as soon as we went in to get the land in shape the weather turned and we experienced a very wet winter. Roads are still reopening in the region, but we are lucky enough to be underway again.

Fast forward to today and the site is looking a whole lot better with the structure really taking shape. The new facility will accommodate the Parkes team with room to expand. Particular attention has been paid to the design so that we can provide our customers with a facility that is worthy of their investment in John Deere machines.

Internal Harvester Optimisation: Parkes As a regular part of our preparation for this year’s harvest Hutcheon & Pearce ran a series of clinics for Harvester Optimisation across our region.

Held for both staff and then clients, these days aimed to cover the main topics when setting up a machine in order to get the most out of a crop over the busiest period of the year on the land.

Topics included; Optimisation & Adjustments, which covered Cutting, Feeding, Threshing, Cleaning, Residue, Specific Crop Adjustments,

Machine Optimisation as well as delaing with whatever issues might arise.

With most machines now running the latest technology, Combine Screen Navigation & Calibrations was a welcome segment.

Harvester Optimisation: On The Road!

Harvest is upon us, and Hutcheon & Pearce have seen the need this year for extra support during the busiest time of the year.

To this effect we have appointed Glen Montgomery and Matt Sanders in full time roles as product optimisation specialists.

They will be joined with John Aubin who has come across from the U.S and will be here until December. John has worked as a combine specialist with John Deere and now works with

seed growers to maximise combine productivity and seed quality.

The three of them will travel throughout the dealership group to assist with startups and set up of harvesters and fronts.

With a slow start to the local season John and Glen travelled to Moree to catch up with some contractors working in northern NSW. The season up there is also behind and there were only a few machines working, mainly in barley

and beans. They were able to operate machines and make adjustments to improve seed loss and performance.

Settings and adjustments will be shared through the group, to quickly get machines up to peak performance.

Drive Green: Albury & Wagga On Saturday the 8th October both the Albury and Wagga Wagga branches held a Drive Green event.

The day was a success with a number of people coming in to test drive some of the John Deere range of compact tractors, lawn mowers and Gators.
