The Husson University men’s basketball program is one of the most successful NCAA Division III programs in the country.
Over a 90-year period Husson men’s basketball has won 68.3% of their games placing them 2nd all-time. With a total of 1,500+ wins, the team is also the 12th all-time among NCAA Division III programs in the country.
The Eagles are a model of consistency.
In the past 56 years, there have been only two head coaches, D. Bruce MacGregor (1968-1994) and current head coach Warren Caruso (1994-current). Together they have a combined more than 1,100 career wins and 23 trips to the national tournament. The successful leadership of just two coaches leading the same program over the last 56 years is unmatched by any other program in the country at any level.
Education at the core.
The primary goal for each of our student athletes is to earn their degree. Over the past 30 years, 90% of the student-athletes who have played their last year of eligibility at Husson has earned their degree. Over the past five years, our team GPA has been over 3.0. During the 2023-2024 academic year, the team GPA was an average of 3.3.

The Eagles play their home games in Newman Gymnasium located on the Husson University campus in Bangor, Maine.. Holding roughly 1,000 spectators, Newman Gym is one of the best NCAA Division III basketball venues in New England. Both students and the local community come out to support the team. Last year, an average of more than 800 fans attended each home game in person. For those farther afield, all home games are also broadcast in high definition on YouTubeTV, viewable anywhere.
Every year over holiday break the team travels to play in a classic format tournament in a different region of the country. Over the years, that’s taken the men’s basketball team to California (5), Florida (5), Arizona (3), Washington DC (1) and NYC (1).
The team has also participated three times in the D3HoopsClassic in Las Vegas. In 2024-25 the team will head to Daytona Beach, FL to compete in the Daytona Beach Shootout. As we look ahead to the future we are in the early stages of planning a tour and play trip to Europe.
