The Husky Voice St. Cloud State University Husky Wrestling COACHES CORNER FROM COACH COSTANZO On January 8th & 9th the wrestling program took a big step towards restoring the Husky wrestling tradition. We went into the NWCA National Duals with hopes of finishing in the top 3 spots in a national wrestling tournament which had not happened since the 1964-65 campaign. As a team we prepared to battle for the title. Out of the sixteen teams in the NCAA DII bracket, we found ourselves in the semifinals. We lost a hard fought, 18-15, battle to #3 Augustana College. The match could have easily gone the other way as we lost four overtime bouts to the Vikings. Although the Huskies did not prevail as the tournament National Champions, SCSU showed they are one of the country’s best teams as they defeated #5 Newberry College 26-9 for third place in the nation. Every team member contributed to the outstanding performance by bonus points or keeping opposing teams limited to victories without giving away bonus points. As our wrestlers were not happy with their team finish and had hopes for winning the team dual national title, I was very pleased and excited to be a part of their effort. It is up to us to continue getting better in every individual weight class by finding new ways to improve. Our strength and conditioning can and will improve. Our technical knowledge must improve as we look to finish out the 2010-11 campaign on an exciting note. I’m excited for our remaining competitions and look forward to the challenge ahead. ONWARD AND UPWARD!!!
