A letter confirming the details of the test will be sent by email. For a PTE Academic test, the candidate has to attend in a secure Pearson test center. A computer and headset to listen to, read and respond to the questions will be provided. During the three-hour test session there will be three main parts to the test: speaking and writing (together), listening and reading. There are 20 different question formats, from multiple choices to essay writing and interpreting information.

PTE Academic assesses real-life, academic English; therefore, lectures will be presented via audio along with graphs and charts.

There will be a range of accents in the test, from British and American to non-native speakers, to enable candidates to be exposed to the type of accents that one might encounter in everyday life.
