The Fabelmans
Loosely based on Spielberg's childhood growing up in postWorld War II era Arizona, from age seven to eighteen, a young man named Sammy Fabelman discovers a shattering family secret, and explores how the power of movies help us see the truth about each other and ourselves.
Streaming on Showtime, Hulu, or Paramount +

According to family lore, early in the twentieth century the sisters’ parents decided to move the family from Eastern Europe to Los Angeles so their father could become a movie director. On the way, their pregnant mother went into labor in St. Louis, where the baby was born and where their mother died. The father left the children in an orphanage and promised to send for them when he settled in California—a promise he never kept. One of the Morris sisters later became a successful Wall Street trader and advised Franklin Roosevelt. The sisters lived together in New York City, none of them married or had children, and one even had an affair with J. P. Morgan.
The stories of these independent women intrigued Klam, but as she delved into them to learn more, she realized that the tales were almost completely untrue.
The Almost Legendary Morris Sisters is the revealing account of what Klam discovered about her family—and herself—as she dug into the past. The deeper she went into the lives of the Morris sisters, the slipperier their stories became. And the more questions she had about what actually happened to them, the more her opinion of them evolved.
Part memoir and part confessional, and told with the wit and honesty that are hallmarks of Klam’s books, The Almost Legendary Morris Sisters is the fascinating and funny true story of one writer’s journey into her family’s past, the truths she brings to light, and what she learns about herself along the way.

TAYLOR HUEBBERS, BSN, RN
The Daisy Award recognizes exceptional nurses for providing skillful and compassionate care. Taylor Huebbers clearly embodies what this award stands for. Her nomination reads; “My baby was admitted to the NICU. I was so anxious I could barely sleep. I remember how hard it was for me to leave the NICU. All of the nurses were amazing but one stood out to me. I remember coming to visit with my baby around 1AM. As usual, I could not sleep while he was in the NICU. But, when I walked in, Taylor had him out and was giving him the cutest Mohawk. She had taken out his IV and explained how well he was doing to myself and my husband. She also gave him the cutest setup in his incubator and you could really tell how much she cared, based on how neat she kept everything. We still talk about Taylor to this day. I remember how at ease she made me feel. After seeing her with him, I was finally able to sleep.
for extraordinary nurses
She truly embodies the epitome of nursing and as a fellow nurse myself, I am so thankful for her.”
Taylor, a graduate of Holly High School, completed her nursing degree at University of MichiganFlint. She began her career at Hurley in NICU as a Nurse Extern. “I completed a number of clinical rotations at Hurley and preferred here to other hospitals. Hurley also has a level 3 NICU, which is exactly what I was looking for. I felt that I would be able to get the best experiences here than anywhere else, notes Taylor.”
There are many rewards for caring for premature and critical ill newborns. This environment can be emotionally demanding while very rewarding. Taylor has found her place. She shared a favorite memory where she was able to take care of her first primary patient and watch her grow and develop. "It was

amazing to be a part of her journey from the day she was born to the day she went home. She was only 2lbs when she was born, so it truly was something special to see her grow over her 2 months with us."
Taylor is grateful to her family who she feels has been a great support during her obtaining a nursing degree, especially her older sister who is also a nurse. Her sister was the one who encouraged her to pursue the career. Taylor is also appreciative to everyone on her unit. “We always take on difficult tasks together, no one is ever alone. With all of their guidance and support, I have been able to grow into a more confident nurse.”
Taylor expressed that her nomination meant a great deal to her. She shared that she was so nervous the morning she was awarded the Daisy. “I was choked up with emotions. Learning that I was able to make such an impact on a family and provide them with some comfort during that very difficult time of their lives is truly an honor. I am not always the most confident in my skills being a newer nurse, so learning that something as simple as showing their baby affection and attention was able to make such an impact on them, is something that I will never forget.”

“We always take on difficult tasks together, no one is ever alone. With all of their guidance and support, I have been able to grow into a more confident nurse.”

Transforming Lives: Richard Reid's Journey to Health and Happiness
Richard Reid of Grand Blanc faced a lifelong battle with his weight. The struggle was real, as he experimented with every diet under the sun, only to find minimal success. His health was spiraling out of control, plagued by pre-diabetes, sleep apnea, and heart issues. A cascade of falls resulted in injuries and blood clots, and his energy levels were virtually non-existent. Walking became an arduous task, and something as simple as balance on your feet was a luxury he couldn't afford.
Amidst this challenging journey, Richard's saving grace emerged in the form of the Hurley Comprehensive Weight Loss Center. His doctor, alarmed by the rapid decline in health, directed him towards a beacon of hope. As he stepped through the doors, a warm and caring staff welcomed him, assuring him that they were there to guide him through the weight loss journey.
In August 2022, Richard underwent a Sleeve Gastrectomy, a pivotal moment that marked the beginning of his incredible transformation. The results speak for themselves – a staggering weight loss of 110 pounds, with the promise of more to come.
Richard's newfound health has brought about a remarkable change in his life. Airline seats no longer require a seatbelt extender, stadium seats are a comfortable haven, and jumping up to cheer for his favorite team is a joyous, unencumbered activity. Off-the-rack
clothes shopping is a reality, and slipping into a restaurant booth is now an everyday occurrence without a hint of embarrassment.
"Having weight loss surgery was the best thing I've ever done. My only regret is that I didn't do it sooner," reflects Richard with a genuine smile. The credit for his success goes to the dedicated support team at Hurley Comprehensive Weight Loss Center, who provided unwavering guidance throughout his journey. Richard emphasizes, "Their commitment to me is life-long, and that's amazing."
The improvement in his quality of life is palpable, and he revels in the joy of living as he should. "Beforehand, my excess weight denied me of this," he admits. With the added years to his life, Richard is determined to live each one to the fullest.
For those seeking a transformation like Richard's, the Hurley Comprehensive Weight Loss Center stands as a beacon of hope. To learn more about their life-changing surgical and non-surgical services, visit hurleymc.com or call 810.262.2330. Your journey to health and happiness may be just a step away.

HEATH, RN
Hurley Wellness celebrates employees who are passionate about health, whether that means the individuals have achieved or are working toward a personal mental or physical goal or that they foster a culture of wellness. Hurley’s Wellness Hero of the Quarter, Laura Heath, embodies all aspects of the award by being disciplined at maintaining her daily wellness routine.
Laura has worked as a registered nurse in Pediatrics for 25 years. “I have worked in many areas of the hospital but my home unit is Pediatrics. It is definitely where my heart is.” Laura noted. Laura cares for our young patients from the beginning of their hospital stay to escorting them and their parents to the lobby at the time of discharge. You may even find her toting or carting their belongings. Laura believes that this is the customer-service thing to do and that it is also an opportunity to “get her steps in for the day.”
Laura’s wellness routine primarily consists of walking at a brisk pace for a period of 20 minutes twice a day. She uses breaks and lunches while at work to walk the “inside Hurley mile.” This consists of walking a circuitous route within the Medical Center. She then ends her wellness routine by tackling the 11 flights of stairs. “Going from the basement up to the 11th floor is quite an undertaking. You are definitely out of breath.
There are Wellness signs of encouragement posted on the wall at each floor, and I can quote all of them,” Laura shared.
Laura shares her wellness with her boyfriend and at times, they walk laps around the Birch Run mall. They do two or three laps under the covered sidewalks. Laura noted that she was always involved in some sort of wellness, including sports in her younger years. She also used to be a serious runner. She even ran the CRIM. Now she is a serious walker. Laura enjoys boating and traveling. She enjoys taking trips with her boyfriend and even plans on going to Hawaii next year.
Laura definitely believes in getting her steps in any way possible. What motivates her and how does she stay motivated? Laura stressed the importance of moving no matter what. It helps you mentally and physically. She shared that her grandmother was her inspiration whereas she walked every morning and lived past her 90’s. Laura is also inspired by a big family wedding this year, as she has set a goal of losing 20 pounds. She was humble about the idea of being the wellness hero. She was very excited and appreciative. It was a coworker who noticed her wellness routine and her nomination spoke highly:
LAURA

"Laura is someone who is always trying to stay active. I have never seen Laura take the elevator. She's always taking the stairs, walking the Hurley mile inside and out. When anyone needs something from the pharmacy she's your girl.
When you need to run labs down to the lab she's got you covered. Laura is someone who makes sure she's always discharging her own patients to the front door because she's just got to get her steps in. She strips all her rooms down for EVS. Staying active is the way we see Laura, if she has time to take a break she spends it in the Hurley Gym. At home she stays fit around the yard. I hear she also takes pride in her walks around Frankenmuth. All those around the unit know Laura is a woman who likes to get her steps in. Way to go Laura!"
In recognition of her dedication to wellness, Laura received a Wellness medal, Hurley Wellness jacket, a $20 gift certificate for massage and a YMCA Membership. Congratulations Laura!
Who is your wellness hero? Go to the new Hurley Wellness Website, found on the Hurley intranet, to nominate them today.
