“Change We Need”

The title of this article was our theme in this organization just a couple years ago. Did we actually make the changes we needed then?

What changes are needed now, and why? Very simply, we have made many changes in the way we operate our business, how we suggest you operate your individual businesses and how we interact with the public. These changes have taken many forms touching virtually all elements of HUNT Real Estate Corporation and our Core Businesses. And more will always remain to be done.

Your Leadership Team met the first week of October, as we do each year, to review our progress in the current fiscal year and our financial plan for the year ahead, as well as design a strategic plan to make certain that we meet our financial plan and create the right environment for you achieve yours.

The outcomes reflect one thing for certain: we will continue to make the changes we need to remain a vital, exciting place of business—in some cases rather sweeping changes. Right now, we are considering changes we need as a result of the Conference discussions, as well as the tremendous input I receive each month from my Senior Advisors. I boiled down 19 “themes” from all the input I received from my Advisors in the last year and charged our Chief Operating Officer and our Department Heads to respond with an action plan for each, following the input received at our Leadership Conference from the balance of the Leadership Team. Work is now underway on changes we need in: 1) marketing 2

and our service offerings to the public to make certain we are truly responsive to you, our customers and today’s industrial and media environment; 2) our education and training systems to foster continuous improvement; 3) our branch environments to ensure that they are places our people want to be; 4) succession planning to make certain your career has a recurring return on investment; 5) our team “friendliness” and the recognition of the division of labor in our industry; and 6) our entire process for retaining and attracting talent to our organization at all levels.

When considering all the changes we need, there will be accompanying levels of discomfort. Anyone either effecting change or affected by any change will have some feeling of agitation, or alarm, or concern, or dismay, or distraction, or even distress—if anyone is paying attention. Any level of discomfort prods us to sit up and take notice. Feeling uncomfortable often indicates growth is about to take place.

Conversely, stifling discomfort supports the status quo, the way things have always been.

If you have chosen to be part of this organization you must be emotionally mature enough to tolerate a good deal of discomfort because you know in your heart that the discomfort we might create for the moment leads to positive change and growth. If you are capable of noticing your discomfort, without getting too twisted up, you have the capacity to change and grow. Avoiding discomfort at all costs means we don’t.

This organization has always been about learning and innovation—two significant areas of “change.” I wrote about some of our innovations in the last issue of this newsletter. I hope you took notice and share in a feeling of pride in who and what we are. All those innovations caused discomfort for many people in this organization—including me. To varying degrees, I have always demanded of myself and you that we have the capacity to change and grow. Change and growth is a reflection of the power to continuously improve. It is like working out to gain physical strength. There is nothing comfortable about that. But when you start to see the positive effects in all aspects of your life, the pain becomes worth the gain. So it is in business—our business.

We are pushing the envelope in other ways beyond the ones cited above. We are now experimenting in Arizona with an entirely new lead generation business model that has already made our competitors uncomfortable. The public and even our Agents in that Region see this innovation as something far from threatening and an entirely new way for our industry to serve. I will share more with you as time goes on and our experiment matures.

In the meantime, please know how grateful I am to all of you who have contributed to what this organization has achieved this year. I look forward to another great year in fiscal 2018 working together to create a new and unprecedented level of service to every customer we have the privilege of serving.

News Around the Regions

Arizona

Central & Northern NY Region

Our Tempe branch has moved to a new location in Gilbert! We are getting settled into the new branch and are now in a better geographic location that will help us boost our recruiting and business sales.

On July 20th, seventy-nine HUNT Agents, Managers, Mortgage Consultants, Network Title, and Administrative Assistants gathered on the village shore of Skaneateles Lake. The weather was perfect as all boarded the Judge Ben Wiles to enjoy a lovely luncheon and tour of the beautiful Skaneateles Lake. After the boat tour, many stayed to walk the streets of Skaneateles and browse the annual Sidewalk Sale. Thank you to all who attended for another wonderful event!

The Glendale office is nearing its build out that will include a training center for the agents and new recruits. .

Buffalo The HUNT Niagara County branches participated in three community parades this summer: Canal Fest - July 18, 2017 Wilson Field Days - August 26, 2017 Peach Festival - Sept 9, 2017

Terry Bradley, of our Camillus branch, has been a charter member of the Phoenix Philosophies Organization since its inception in 2011.

Phoenix Philosophies aids veterans, homeless people and their families, victims of abusive situations, and aids in their pursuit of suitable housing. The group also assists in helping them learn a trade and develop skills while renovating distressed properties.

Terry helps Phoenix Philosophies in locating and acquiring neglected properties. He helps the family relocate to the improved property. Phoenix Philosophies not only helps people in difficult situations, but the neighborhood also benefits by having a property improved.

The program has helped the disadvantaged have a place in their own homes and also a place in the community they live in. Many times, low income people are invisible, falling through the cracks in services that leave them in substandard housing. Terry’s involvement in the program gives these people their dignity back by assisting them in finding decent, affordable, permanent housing.

Terry derives a great feeling of achievement in knowing he has been instrumental in helping the disadvantaged and also the entire community.

Terry is also a productive, helpful member of the Camillus branch and has 32 consecutive years of being a Real Estate Professional and is also a licensed Auctioneer.

The past month in the Rochester Region has been a focused one. Everyone is putting the final push on for the end of the fiscal year. We continue to grow the region as well by adding six new names to the roster-Great Job! Two additions to the roster were a result of the Recruiting Appreciation Program. Thank you, Jerry Byrnes and Mabel Chu, for your RAP Forms.

In Central New York, the first of 7 Incubator Workshops was held on Thursday, September 14th at HUNT’s Liverpool location. Dave Evans hosted the event, giving over 35 agents from the area an exciting presentation on how to stand out in an extremely competitive market.

While enjoying refreshments, agents, managers, and attendees from Network Title and HUNT Mortgage listened as Dave went through the skills and tools needed to exceed industry standards and break the negative stereotypes that exist regarding real estate professionals.

Whether you are a new or experienced agent, these sessions provide you with great ways to acquire leads and help you succeed in your career. If you haven’t attended a workshop yet, don’t miss out!

A huge “thank you” goes out to Damaris Rivera (Greece) and Barb Krenzer (Brighton/Pittsford) for coordinating donations for the displaced pets due to Hurricane Harvey. HUNT has many caring souls who not only were worried about human lives, but the lives of many pets that were left behind.

The amount of donations was staggering: at the end of the day, an agent’s entire garage was full!

HUNT Mortgage hosted a wonderful event at Oak Hill Country Club. The event was a meet and greet for our newest Mortgage Consultants: Lisa Durfee and Rita McTigue.

The event was well attended and everyone enjoyed the evening at the iconic country club.

“Social Media Trends,” presented by Rachel DiNunzio, was the second of the Incubator series, presented to a full house at the Manlius office on September 21st. Rachel shared many tips on how to use social media to build our center of influence and reach out to them in a significant way.

She also offered excellent tips on how to expand our marketing in a cost effective way and suggested many other tools to boost our social media

Welcome New Mortgage Consultants Our Mortgage Consultants must pass an exam and obtain a license from the state they originate loans in. It is an arduous task to obtain this license and we congratulate the following associates that recently received their licenses: Nicole Beck has a wealth of knowledge in the mortgage industry earned in her 11 years of service as a Mortgage Loan Originator. Nicole joined HUNT Mortgage earlier this year and works from the HUNT branch in Greece, NY. Patrick O’Connor joined HUNT Mortgage in March 2017 after 20 years in the mortgage business and prides himself in helping his clients achieve their financial goals by thoroughly understanding their needs before recommending solutions.

Pat is located in the HUNT Slingerlands branch in the Capital Region.

Nicole Zybczynski, based in the Orchard Park office, has been with HUNT Mortgage for one year and in the loan origination industry for six years.

Nicole is a graduate of the Medaille and Empire State College School of Business Management.

Lisa is a native of Rochester and works out of the HUNT Brighton/Pittsford branch.

Rita McTigue: Before joining HUNT Mortage this year, Rita McTigue had 32 years in the mortgage industry. Her clients value her for her passion for helping people achieve their dreams and her extraordinary experience.

Frank Sardina, a Western New York native, joined HUNT Mortgage this year. Frank has 5 years experience in the mortgage industry working as a loan processor, closing associate and in the tele-sales department.

He graduated from Canisius College in 2016 with a degree in Finance. Frank’s mortgage operations background fuels his energetic approach and knowledge base to assist client’s attain their dreams of homeownership.
