Introduction

About Me

Hello, my name is Hunter Wells. I am currently a student at Des Moines Area Community College finishing my last semester of the AAS degree for Interior Design. I have previously completed a Certificate in Interior Design as well at DMACC. I picked interior design because I felt I’ve always had a creative vision and wanted to continue to create. Growing up I lived in a small town in Iowa with a historic downtown. I was always drawn to the old buildings and dreamed of restoring them to there natural glory.

Background Hotel Design Project

For this project me and another classmate created a 12 story hotel called Twin Manor Hotel. It was inspired by the victorian homes in the Drake neighborhood in Des Moines, Iowa. Here we planned out the lobby, a full restaurant with a bar, a floor for board rooms and ballrooms, guest rooms, and all of the back of house. We researched laws and regulations that went with building a hotel as well personal research of what travelers are looking for when staying at a hotel in our area as well as local artist. For this project we used Revit and Adobe Photoshop.

What I Learned

I learned the most from this project is the importance of teamwork and how you need others to handle such a large project. Working together you learn new perspectives and problems you may not have considered for yourself.

Background Retail Space Project

For this project myself and another classmate created our own interior design firm who then designed a retail store from an existing building location. This location is to be used by the public in the adapting area of the East Village. We decided to go with the growing popularity store Uniqlo. We felt this is a store that would strive in the area and bring in younger audiences. We used Revit, SketchUp and Adobe Photoshop.

Rendered Floor Plan

Here is a poster we made that included a floor plan, with tagged plan, the building location, perspective and elevation views, as well as a color palette.

What I Learned

I learned from this project the abilities to showcase a project. From a moodboard to a 3D rendering trying to envision what it would look like in real life. I have also learned how the smallest details can make the most impact. From the wet floor signage to product layout everything had a purpose and a lot more went into a project then I could have ever imagined.

Background Dining and Living Space Project

For this project we picked a interior design style out of a hat and created a dining room and living room, using only Adobe Photoshop, to go along with that style. I ended up picking traditional style for my project. For my inspiration I wanted the space to be created for an english philosopher based in London, England. By adding stone and wood material as well a moody color pallet with pops of color, I was able to envision this space for a specific client, even though it wasn't required for this specific project.

What I Learned

When Working on this project I learn the importance of opening up my design styles and embracing the different aesthetics. When first starting this project I was very against working with traditional style, but once I worked with it I saw the beauty behind its classic style.

I was also able to learn more about the techniques with photoshop and different ways to visualize a idea into reality.

Personal Projects

Some personal project I have completed are from the DMACC Spring Fashion Gala of 2023. I designed 3 different garments and showcased them in our fashion show. All designs were designed and made by me using recycled materials.
