HUNTING SEASON

February 1 - November 30

Namibia enjoys one of the longest hunting seasons in Africa, running a full 10 months from February 1 – November 30. Seasonal rains in the early part of the year breathe new life into the erstwhile arid landscape causing the veld to erupt in vivid greens. Early season hunting is more challenging, but takes place in a beautiful green landscape not experienced later in the year. As the months wear on, the bush dries up turning into the classic golden-hued landscape that Namibia is famous for. Rifle hunting any time of the year can be successful, with June – November offering the best results for bow-hunting.

SAFARI

Travel access

Namibia is extremely easy for foreign hunters to visit:

• Clients fly commercially to Windhoek’s Hosea Kutako International Airport where they are met by their PH/company representative.

• Travel to the hunting area is usually by vehicle. Namibia is a geographically vast country, so travel times vary depending on where a client is hunting—normally between 2-3 hours if hunting in our central Namibian plainsgame areas. Travel times to Damaraland and/or the Caprivi Strip (now the Zambezi Region) are longer.

• Fixed-wing charter flights to the hunting area can be arranged for clients wishing to do so (P.O.R.).

• Private jet aircraft can easily be accommodated at Hosea Kutako International Airport (Windhoek) for clients who wish to fly privately to Namibia.

CLIMATE Health & Fitness

Namibia has a sub-tropical arid climate and is generally warm all year, with cool to cold evenings and warm days during our dry hunting season. Temperatures can vary greatly from night to day, so hunters should be prepared to layer their clothing and not underestimate the low temperatures of June – August when early morning freezes are common.

Namibia is generally a malaria-free zone with the exception of parts of the Caprivi Strip in the far northeast. Clients should take the necessary precautions when hunting those areas and are advised to consult with their personal physician. Your professional hunter carries a first aid kit and sophisticated medical services are available in the larger Namibian towns and cities. Our hunting areas are vast and unspoiled, which also means that our hunting is not for the unfit. Please train for this type of hunting in the months leading up to your safari so that you arrive in a good level of physical fitness.

WEAPONS & Ammunition

Namibia is very tourist-friendly for the temporary importation of firearms by hunting clients. For those hunters who wish to travel without firearms, we can provide clients with the use of medium-bore plainsgame rifles, normally equipped with suppressors in varying calibers, depending on availability and the area to be hunted: 7mm, .308, .300, 30-06, .338, etc.

For large dangerous game (buffalo, rhino, lion, hippo) the minimum required caliber for use in Namibia is the .375 H&H. The .375 H&H is the only suitable option for a one-rifle battery as it can be used with excellent results for both dangerous game and plains game alike. For the client who prefers two rifles, we recommend that a plains game rifle should be anything from 7mm upwards, but preferably any of the .300 or .338 calibers.

Bow-hunting is allowed in Namibia for non-dangerous game and there are no licenses required for the temporary importation of a bow.

Minimum Requirement for Dangerous Game Rifles: .375 H&H

Minimum Requirement for Shotguns: 12 gauge

Ammunition: Maximum of 100 rounds / caliber (rifle or shotgun)

Recommended resources: The Perfect Shot and The Perfect Shot 2, by Dr. Kevin Robertson Safari Rifles II, by Craig Boddington

SANGWALI camp

Our Sangwali hunting camp is a luxurious oasis in the middle of a private 49,400 acre (20,000 ha) reserve in central Namibia, just south of the Waterberg NP. Sangwali camp boasts 6 luxury rooms that can sleep up to 12 guests, a crystal-clear swimming pool and sprawling gardens. The food, bar and accommodations at Sangwali are second-to-none and multi-course meals are prepared daily by our professionally trained chef.

Large herds of plainsgame species dominate this landscape along with plentiful populations of leopard and cheetah. Sangwali is primarily a rifle hunting area, but for a hunter who also wants to use archery equipment, pop-up blinds can be placed at strategic water points which produce excellent bow hunting results.

In addition to excellent leopard hunting, Sangwali is also home to white rhino, offering the discerning hunter an opportunity for hunting this behemoth on a very large reserve on its own terms.

EKUJA camp

Located in East-Central Namibia, a convenient 1.5 hours-drive from the international airport, Ekuja camp sits amidst some of the richest game-lands the country has to offer. Ekuja’s 24,000 acres (10,000 ha), plus surrounding areas offers bow-hunting and rifle hunting that is unsurpassed in Namibia. Strategically placed pit blinds, ground blinds, and elevated high seats offer the discerning bow hunter opportunities at excellent trophies in the drier months of the year. Rifle hunting is no less productive with large herds of sought-after game animals roaming this wild and vast landscape in abundance.

The luxurious and recently rebuilt Ekuja camp has three luxury chalets and can accommodate 6 – 10 people in the kind of African hospitality and style that we are known for.

Besides excellent plainsgame hunting, Namibia is well known to produce some of the biggest leopard Tom’s in Africa. It can be both very challenging and very rewarding once the big cat is in the salt. All leopard hunts include 14 full hunting days. These hunts are conducted using baits placed in strategic areas. If a big leopard has hit the bait, we will identify it by either trail cameras or tracks. Pre-baiting can also take place for the client and is highly recommended. If a leopard hits the bait, a blind will be built. The blind location is dictated by the terrain and wind direction.

We take great care to look after all these important factors. Shots are typically 70 – 100 yards. Clients must be well prepared for a leopard hunt and know that part of the hunt could be to spend long hours in a blind. We are extremely selective about trophy quality and only hunt in the most pristine areas with a high leopard population density, mostly in the central part of Namibia, around cattle and game ranches. Once again in 2022, we proved ourselves as some of the best leopard hunting outfitters in Africa with a 100% success rate.

LEOPARD PACKAGE (1:1)

14 hunting days (16 days inc. arrival / departure days), daily rate of $16,500, Tag fee of $5,000, and trophy fee of $7,500 (refundable if not taken); pre-baiting is an additional $2,000 (optional, but recommended)
