WELCOME!

Welcome to the 2023 Houston Safari Club Foundation Worldwide Hunting Expo and Convention! I know that you are as excited as we are. The expo will be at the George R. Brown in Hall E (next to the Hilton) and will be open 9am-5pm on Friday and Saturday. Sunday the expo will be open 9am-3pm. At the expo you will be able to meet and interact with outfitters from all over the world as well as a wide variety of other exhibitors.

We will have a casual dinner and auction Friday night at the Hilton, which is always a great way to reconnect with fellow members, outfitters and friends. This year we will be doing our yearly hunting awards at a separate event in the spring so plan on attending that great event. Saturday afternoon the ladies of the Gazelles will host their annual luncheon - an event that is always a highlight of the weekend. This year, the Gazelles lunch will include a live and silent auction as well as food, drinks and games. This lunch is not just for the ladies in our organization and all are more than welcome to attend this rocking good time

Saturday night will conclude with our annual black-tie gala featuring a wonderful formal dinner with open bar. This event is one that many of our members look forward to all year long. This is an excellent event to bring clients and friends for a night of food, drinks, and fun. The Gala will conclude, as always, with a fantastic live auction. This is a great event for all, truly a highlight of the year!

Our annual convention is a critical component of supporting our ongoing mission of education, conservation, and the promotion of our hunting heritage. WHO WE ARE

HOUSTON SAFARI CLUB FOUNDATION

Houston Safari Club Foundation (HSCF) is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization whose mission is to preserve the sport of hunting through education, conservation, and the promotion of our hunting heritage. HSCF proudly provides one of the largest scholarship programs of its kind. Annually, HSCF provides twenty-five (25) scholarships in the amount of $6,000.00 each. To date, 638 scholarships have been awarded, totaling $2,778,500. We annually host 200 area high school students for a day of career introductions to outdoor-related professions, at our annual convention. In addition, we host almost 100 students for hunting and fishing experiences each year. HSCF has provided over $4 million in grants to support conservation, anti-poaching, hunters’ rights, youth education, hunter education and more

Our members come from a diverse background and have a wide variety of hunting, fishing, outdoor and other interests. They have a passion for the outdoors, a love of hunting, a commitment to the responsible management of our national resources, the education of future generations and the responsibilities of being hunterconservationists.

HOUSTON SAFARI CLUB

Our mission: To protect the rights of hunters and the hunting heritage through advocacy, policy and legislation.

Houston Safari Club (HSC) is a 501(c)(4) non-profit organization dedicated to legislative and policy initiatives that may affect the future of hunting. HSC supports initiatives that protect the tradition of hunting and hunters’ rights. We take an active role in efforts to effect policy, protocols and legislation. HSC collaborates with legislators, key opinion leaders, policy groups, professional organizations and governments at home and abroad. We are very actively involved with state, federal and international policy and legislation concerning wildlife and habitat.

Live Auction Rules

• When bidding from the floor, raise your hand high or bid paddle and, if necessary, stand to get the attention of the auctioneer or one of his spotters.

• The auctioneer and his staff are responsible for the auction. Their rules must be followed explicitly. All decisions of the auctioneer will be final. The auctioneer and staff will decide on any disputes regarding the bids during the live auction.

• Asking questions ahead of time is encouraged. speak with the donor, visit their booth (if they are an exhibitor) and check their references. HSCF supports and promotes hunts and trips from donors who are members in good standing with their local and national hunting associations.

• Some items, as components of donated hunts, may or may not be included unless specified. This may pertain to travel expenses to and from the destination; hotel and meals before and after the hunt; alcoholic beverages; trophy dipping, packaging, and shipping; gratuities and other items. Please review the details for each auction item.

• Most hunt donations, unless otherwise specified, are for the 2023 season. All trips, unless otherwise specified, expire on January 31, 2023. Special arrangements other than as set forth in the auction description are expressly between the donor and the auction winner.

• Some non-hunt donations may require delivery and installation at your expense.

• It is the bidder’s responsibility to read the HSCF Disclaimer of Liability for Goods & Services. By bidding on any auction item, whether in person or online, the bidder agrees that they have read, understand, and agree to the HSCF Disclaimer of Liability.

Payment Terms

• Method of Payment: Cash, Check, or Credit Card (MasterCard, Visa, American Express, or Discover)

• All hunts must be paid in full prior to being taken. All merchandise must be paid in full prior to taking possession.

• Any firearms that may be included in auctions or contests are subject to all state and federal laws. Transactions for these items will be managed by an approved FFL provider. The FFL provider information will be provided to the winning bidder for completion of transfer. Winners are responsible for all costs of shipping and FFL transfer fees.

Taxes and Withholdings

• (RAFFLE ONLY) For all non-cash prizes, valued at $5,000.00 USD or greater, the winner must remit 24% of the Fair Market Value (FMV) of the prize, less the wager amount, to Houston Safari Club Foundation (HSCF) or Houston Safari Club (HSC) (dependent upon the designated organization for which an item is being auctioned) for tax withholding and shall indemnify and hold harmless HSCF and/or HSC against all claims relating to such taxes and expenses.

• HSCF and/or HSC will provide a receipt for the value of the goods and services received for the purchase of auction items.

• Houston Safari Club Foundation (HSCF) is a non-profit organization, exempt from federal income tax, under section 501(c)(3) of the United States Internal Revenue Code. The charitable deduction for contributions to HSCF is the cash amount of the contribution, less the value of goods and services received, to the extent permitted by law. HSCF EIN 74-2177975. Raffle

You must be a minimum of 18 years of age to purchase a raffle ticket or win a prize. All winners will be announced at the conclusion of the event and will also be notified by phone and/or email. Winners are expected to take possession of all items at the conclusion of the event, except for firearms. Prize(s) not claimed within 90 days of notification will be returned to the control of HSCF, excluding firearms. All firearms are subject to all state and federal laws. Transactions for these items will be handled by an approved FFL provider. FFLprovider information will be provided to the winning bidder for completion of transfer. Winners are responsible for all costs of shipping and FFL transfer fees. If a winner is unable to pass a BATFE background check, the firearm will be forfeited, and a new winner will be randomly drawn. Firearm prizes are non-transferable. BLUE COLLAR ADVENTURES IN ACTION WITH CHAPUNGU-KAMBAKO SAFARIS

As one of the leading safari outfitters in Southern and Central Africa, Chapungu-Kambako Safaris (CKS) offers a large selection of dangerous as well as plains game safaris to the most discerning hunter that prefers fair-chase hunts on some of the largest hunting concessions across six African countries. Jay Presti, an avid hunter, and host of Blue Collar Adventures on the Pursuit Channel, has been hunting for the past six years with CKS in Namibia. In 2023 Jay took an epic trip to Africa again, this time to northern Mozambique and South Africa. The following is Jay’s report on his pursuit of leopard, buffalo, and plains game:

The thought of traveling to Africa always excites me like a child on Christmas morning. When I decided to do a 34-day trip you can imagine the anticipation I had to start this journey. I have been so fortunate to not only hunt Africa but be surrounded by the right people. It amazes me every time I think that 7 years of hunting started with a convention breakfast. ChapunguKambako has become part of my family that always enriches my life.

For me, the opportunity to hunt the Niassa Reserve in northern Mozambique was like a football player finally going to the Super Bowl. With a leopard and a buffalo on my wish list this would prove to be one of the most epic hunts ever. Kambako main camp was a dream come true and as wild as it gets! However, with a leopard hunt there lies work and long days ahead but as they say, “hard work pays off”. This along with one amazing PH, Ryan Cliffe, and his trackers, we were able to harvest a mature tom in daylight. For a television show, you cannot script it better!

Now my focus shifted to Cape buffalo. After days of tracking bulls, it was getting to the end of the Mozambique leg of the trip. We were among them every day but just could not close the deal. Ryan was called back to Uganda so on the last day another Kambako PH, Darren Ellerman, stepped in. Ryan and I had walked miles and were so close, but Darren had the lucky horseshoe. While checking waterholes this morning, we walked into a herd of buffalo. They do not hunt the herd bulls, but just the experience was amazing and worth it. Luckily, it did not end there. Moving on we saw and tracked an old dugga boy in the tall grass. The sticks came out and when I settled in, the shot was too risky and he escaped my grasp. Cape buffalo is

one that I never want to track wounded and as hard as it was, our decision was the right one. With the press of time running out we stopped for lunch and as fortune would turn we found a fresh track. This is it, the last chance! As we walked the track mopane flies started to pester us and in my mind I thought, buffalo. “Nyati! Nyati!” the tracker loudly whispered. The sticks came out and my pulse increased. With some serious concentration, a Hornady solid put this beautiful 42” dugga boy down.

Leaving Kambako my next stop would be Rietvaley (Reed Valley) just outside the town of Lydenburg in South Africa. This was a new area with a specific focus on bow hunting. The picturesque mountains and plentiful game made it one for the books.

Shifting gears to archery, we captured some outstanding sits with results that bow hunters dream of. What I love about Africa is the people, how everyday they celebrate the wonder of this continent around a campfire. There is such a bond and true interest in each other, no phones, no tv, just time shared.

After a successful seven days at Rietvaley with a nyala, kudu, and baboons in the salt, my PH, Nicolai Raubenheimer, and I headed for the crown jewel of CKS in South Africa, Kalahari Oryx Private Reserve. Again it was time to adapt to another style of hunting. This is an open country with long-range hunting opportunities. As soon as we pulled up to the lodge, our waiter, Belis, handed us a glass of champagne, and the long flights and travel discomforts disappeared. Friends of mine from Nevada joined me at Kalahari Oryx for their first-ever African safari.

One of my passions is long-range shooting and I built a new rifle just for this trip. As nice as the lodge’s comfy bed with fireplace and soaking tub is, you can’t wait to get out and hunt.

After twenty-some days on the safari, I still did not want to miss a moment. For me it is not about the harvest, but what you may encounter that day. At Kalahari Oryx there are wild lions, black and white rhinos, Cape buffalo, and all the plains game species one could ever imagine. With 200,000 plus acres, the opportunity at your dream trophy is abundant.

We - Nicolai and his tracker, Gaza, my cameraman, and myself - have been hunting for 2 weeks together. By now we have become a dream team and each day we set ourselves goals to

accomplish. My job was to make the shot, Nicolai and Gaza to find the opportunity, and Conrad to capture it on film. The result was rewarding as I managed to harvest a steenbuck, oryx, springbuck, zebra, waterbuck, and a beautiful sable with some of them at amazing long-distance shots (you will have to watch it to believe it).

My 34-day African safari came to an end and I managed to capture this incredible experience that I truly believe viewers would enjoy. However, with that said, all of Chapungu-Kambako Safaris’ properties are so exceptional that only visiting them in person can do them justice. To be able to stay with the same
