I was thrilled to overhear at a recent Hunters Hill Music concert ‘…surely this must be one of Sydney’s best kept secrets!’. When I hear the buzz of anticipation before each concert, and the cheers of delight after the performance, I cannot disagree!
I am now thrilled to present Season 2025, beginning in February with the works of Felix and Fanny Mendelssohn performed by Sydney’s own Chroma Quartet, whose shared love of string quartets shines through with every note. Another quartet, the Affinity Quartet, laureates of several international chamber music competitions and rising stars of the international circuit close the season with Debussy’s String Quartet and two contemporary works, one by French composer-singing sensation Heloise Werner and the other by Australian composer Justin Williams (who will also be playing in the Series).
In August, Timo-Veikko ‘Tipi’ Valve, Principal Cellist of the Australian Chamber Orchestra is joined by his duo partner, pianist Aura Go for a magnificent program featuring Schubert’s Arpegionne Sonata and a selection of works reimagined for cello and piano.
In May, I am honoured to be joined by violinist Glenn Christensen, violist Justin Williams and cellists Julian Thompson and Eliza Sdraulig performing one of my favourite works, the Schubert Cello Quintet together with three short Australian works for string quartet.
Each concert is followed by complimentary wine, courtesy of HHM wine partner, Savannah Estate and I am thrilled that, following on from the success of the Boronia Kitchen x Savannah Estate collaboration in December 2024, conversations surrounding 2025 events are ramping up! Watch this space!
I look forward to creating many wonderful memories with you in 2025!

Fanny and Felix Mendelssohn: two prodigiously gifted musical siblings raised lovingly with the finest education, and yet bound by the restrictive shackles of the conservative Prussian aristocracy. Fanny was instructed by her family that her musical endeavors should always remain an ‘ornament…’ and for her brother, Felix, ‘a profession’. The siblings would remain devoted throughout their lifetime; Felix celebrated as a great composer, conductor and pianist; Fanny quietly composing over 500 works behind closed doors. In this program, the music of Fanny and Felix sit side by side. Fanny’s E flat Quartet brimming with a mature sophistication; Felix’s Opus 80 Quartet overflowing with grief at the sudden death of his beloved sister.
The Five Pieces of Czech-German composer, Erwin Schulhoff sit between the Mendelssohn siblings. Schulhoff’s works are gleefully ironic, and the Five Pieces are imbued with parody, dissonance and cheekiness. In the hands of the Chroma Quartet, prepare yourself for a performance of sheer exuberance and finesse.
Running Time: 60 minutes without interval.

Youth reigns in this exuberant program featuring three short works for string quartet by young Australian composers Harry Sdraulig, Holly Harrison and Joseph Twist and Schubert’s masterpiece, his String Quintet written shortly before his death, aged 31.
Harrison, Sdraulig and Twists’s works are inventive, evocative and arresting, with chromatic twists and turns and pulsating rhythmic impetus.
Schubert’s Quintet, distinctive for its scoring of two cellos, is a work of extraordinary melodic expression and inventiveness; with the second cello adding a depth of tonality and sonority. Imbued with dancelike gypsy rhythms, the Quintet remains a defining work in the chamber music repertory.
Featuring ACO cellist Julian Thompson; former ACO violinist Glenn Christensen; SSO principal players and former Tinalley String Quartet members Justin Williams and Lerida Delbridge; and Chroma Quartet cellist Eliza Sdraulig
Running Time: 75 minutes without interval.

ACO Principal Cellist Timo-Veikko ‘Tipi’ Valve and pianist Aura Go are widely regarded as two of Australia’s finest chambers musicians and instrumentalists. Acclaimed for the musical chemistry that exists between them, this intimate recital features the re-imaginings of works by Mozart and a new work by Australian/UK composed Lisa Illean
The program is bookended by Beethoven’s Horn Sonata, arranged by Beethoven himself for cello and piano. (Beethoven is widely viewed as the ‘father’ of the piano and cello sonata in the same vein that Haydn is referred to as the ‘Papa’ of the string quartet). Schubert’s effervescent Arpeggione Sonata ends the program. Conceived for the six stringed ‘Arpegionne’ the work is fiendishly difficult but in the hands of Tipi and Aura, prepare to be astonished and delighted!
