The opium of the anxious masses is anything that may serve as an instrument of power for the preacher of lies, intimidation, and “spiritual security” to seduce his victims, extirpate their instinct for freedom, inquisitiveness, heterodoxy, dissension, and subversiveness, and intoxicate them with the absurdity of the concept of salvation by faith alone.
