LAND ACKNOWLEDGMENT Humber is located within the traditional and treaty lands of the Mississaugas of the Credit. Known as Adoobiigok, the “Place of the Alders” in Michi Saagiig language, the region is uniquely situated along the Humber River Watershed, which historically provided an integral connection for Anishinaabe, Haudenosaunee and Wendat peoples between the Ontario Lakeshore and the Lake Simcoe/Georgian Bay regions. Now home to people of numerous nations, Adoobiigok continues to provide a vital source of interconnection for all.

WELCOME TO HUMBER Thank you for considering Humber Polytechnic for your post-secondary education. We are committed to continually building an environment that fosters and values equity, diversity, inclusion and belonging and celebrates the contributions of all members of our community. I have the pleasure of being the Vice-President of Inclusion & Belonging, and Student Experience at Humber. I am incredibly proud of the ways in which we have braided Indigenous ways of being, knowing, and doing into curricula, teaching practices, and into everything we do. The many ways we prioritize support services and provide opportunities for connection are detailed throughout this Viewbook and I hope you take the time to learn about them. We know that deciding where to study is a big decision and one that comes with considerations related to finances, academics, and community. As an Indigenous person I have always felt a sense of belonging here at Humber and it is not easy to say, as I have not always felt that in other spaces. I believe this leads to others also feeling that same sense of belonging. Humber is a place where you can build your unique, brilliant future. I hope you choose to do so. Thank you. Humber offers a variety of bursaries and scholarships for Indigenous students. INDIGENOUS ENTRANCE AND IN-COURSE SCHOLARSHIPS Canada Post Awards for Indigenous Students In-Course Criteria: Awarded to Canadians and a member of a First Nation, Métis or Inuit community who has never received this award in the past and (a) has been out of school for 1 year or more and is returning or (b) has already returned to school and completed 1 full year of studies. Q: Humber offers free tuition to Indigenous students from eight First Nations communities. Did you receive free tuition and, if so, can you talk about how that helped you on your educational journey? A: "Yes, I received free tuition through Humber’s Indigenous tuition waiver. It’s been a huge help. I wouldn’t have been able to pursue post-secondary education without it. Having that financial barrier removed gave me the chance to focus on my studies and my future without the constant stress of debt." WACHAY WEEKEND
RESIDENCE
At the start of every academic year, we invite first year Indigenous students to a series of events to enhance their orientation week experience. During our fun events, you will meet other Indigenous students, tour the Humber campuses, and get to know the city of Toronto.
As part of the Residence application process, students who have self-identified as Indigenous when applying to Humber Polytechnic will be able to notify Humber Residence of any sponsorship they may have, upload sponsorship letters and select related payment options for their Residence deposit and fees. Self-identified Indigenous students will also be asked Indigenous-focused roommate-matching questions so they may choose to live with other Indigenous students, if possible. Residence at Humber fills up fast, and spaces are offered on a first-come, first-served basis, so we strongly encourage all students who wish to live in Residence to apply as soon as they accept their Humber program offer.
Q: Did you participate in any IE&E events or activities during your time at Humber? Which ones and why? Did you find value in participation? A: "Yes, I did participate in IE&E events. One event I valued was Wachay Weekend. As someone returning to school after a long break, it was a great experience to get familiar with the room and meet people before jumping in, and to know where my supports were." Humber's North Campus Residence also has a dedicated Indigenous student lounge, Wigwamen, where Indigenous learners can relax with friends or participate in events hosted by Indigenous Education & Engagement. Students are able to use Wigwamen for smudging. At the Lakeshore Campus, students can visit Indigenous Education & Engagement in WEL301 for smudging.

SPOTLIGHT ON ANGELINA: THEATRE STUDENT, ATHLETE, AND COMMUNITY LEADER From the moment Angelina stepped through the doors at Humber Polytechnic’s Open House, it was clear—she had a focus on her career goals and a strong sense of how her path connected to something greater: her community. Angelina is the kind of student that is a faculty member’s dream. Eager to learn and expand her skillset, she brings bold ideas to the table, tackles new challenges without hesitation, and uplifts those around her with compassion and care. Even with a full academic schedule, Angelina made her mark on the field as a standout player for Humber’s varsity women’s softball team. She earned Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association (CCAA) and Ontario Colleges Athletic Association (OCAA) bronze medals in 2023 and returned in 2024 to take home silver in both. Her commitment to excellence carried into the classroom as well, earning her the prestigious OCAA All-Academic Award.

Beyond campus, Angelina’s dedication to her community runs deep. During her summer break, she returned home to support her Six Nations community in the ground search for missing children who may be buried near the Woodland Cultural Centre—once the site of the Mohawk Institute Residential School. In her second year, she connected with Native Earth Performing Arts and contributed to their 37th Weesaagechuk Begins to Dance festival, all while deepening her passion for theatrical lighting—a love sparked through her studies at Humber. Looking ahead, Angelina has her sights set on the creative world. She is planning to pursue the Indigenous Leadership program at the Banff Centre for the Arts and hopes to return to Humber to continue her journey in the Arts Administration and Cultural Management program. Angelina is the embodiment of what it means to be a Humber graduate—a lifelong learner, a changemaker, and someone who uses her talents to uplift, inspire and give back.
