Emmy and Golden Globe winner Michael Patrick King was born into a working class Irish catholic family in Scranton Pennsylvania. He moved to New York City at the age of 20 and spent many, many years waiting on tables and developing his voice as a playwright and stand-up comic. He began his television writing career when Diane English hired him to join the classic CBS sitcom Murphy Brown during its infamous Dan Quale year. He followed Murphy Brown with a brief stint as a writer/executive producer on the sit-com Cybil and then went on to create a few original TV pilots which starred the likes of Don Johnson, Ellen Barkin, Debi Mazar, Joanna Gleason, Seth Green, Bridget Everett and Loni Anderson. The Don Johnson pilot A Mann’s Word, a satiric look at aging in the beauty industry, filmed in 2011, had 5 out loud and proud LGBTQ series regular characters. In between television projects Mr. King opened Arcade - a not-for-profit performance space in Los Angeles and encouraged all kinds of artists to come and explore their art – uncensored. He then moved back to NYC to write and executive produce, with Darren Starr, the 1st season of the HBO’s culture defining comedy Sex And The City. While waiting for the 2nd season to begin – Michael was asked by Max Mutchnick and David Kohan to join the first season of their revolutionary comedy Will & Grace. He then returned to NYC to executive produce, write and direct SATC for the next five

seasons then, went on to executive produce, write and direct both movies. He followed the run of SATC with another HBO show, The Comeback, which he created with Lisa Kudrow. Cancelled after it’s 1st season – it grew to become a cult classic and he and Ms. Kudrow were asked to return to HBO to do a 2nd season, a remarkable 10 years later. Missing the energy of doing comedy in front of a live audience he created the edgy, commercial multi-camera comedy 2 Broke Girls with Whitney Cummings – a breakout hit that ran for six seasons on CBS and became syndicated worldwide. Always a massive fan of the entity that is RuPaul Charles – he got the chance to collaborate with Ru when they created the heartfelt dramedy: AJ and the Queen for Ru to star in for Netflix – and AJ is still right there on that platform for you to enjoy. Fresh from finishing the three-season run of the glorious, risk taking, controversial, press buzzy And Just Like That for HBO MAX, he jumped into filming the 3rd and final season of The Comeback for HBO, an even more remarkable - 11 years after its second season. It will launch on HBO in March 2026. Michael Patrick King has spent his career mainstreaming ideas and characters considered outside of societal norms and, with humor and heart has endeavored to lift sex and sexuality on television and films out of the shadows of shame and into the light.

Two-time Olympic medalist and six-time World Champion Brittany Bowe is widely regarded as one of the most accomplished and respected athletes in the history of U.S. speed skating. Over a career spanning more than a decade, Bowe became a four-time Olympian, served as Team USA’s flag bearer at the 2022 Winter Olympics, and earned more than 90 World Cup medals. A dominant force in the 1,000m, she set a world record in the event and authored one of the most remarkable stretches in the sport’s history—winning seven consecutive World Cup races from 2018–2019, the longest streak ever by an American woman.
Beyond her competitive success, Bowe’s legacy is defined by leadership and integrity. At the 2022 U.S. Olympic Trials, she relinquished her qualifying position in the 500m after teammate Erin Jackson experienced a slip/misstep, ensuring Jackson—then the world’s top-ranked sprinter—could compete in Beijing. Jackson went on to win Olympic gold, and Bowe’s gesture earned her the ISU Fair Play Award and global recognition as one of the most selfless acts in Olympic history.
Bowe closed her career at the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Games, proudly representing Team USA for a fourth time. In a fitting and celebratory final chapter, she also announced her engagement to U.S. women’s hockey captain and Olympic gold medalist Hilary Knight during the Games.
Off the ice, Bowe is a passionate advocate for inclusion and athlete empowerment, serving as an ambassador for organizations including Right To Play and the Out Athlete Fund. Her journey from inline skating world champion to Olympic icon makes her a powerful voice on performance, resilience, and purpose.

The Human Rights Campaign is America’s largest civil rights organization working for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer equality. Since 1980, we have been fighting for a better future for LGBTQ+ Americans. We are now working tirelessly to pass the Equality Act, which will soon head to the U.S. Senate for consideration, fight back against a multitude of anti-LGBTQ+ legis-lation in states nationwide and ensure everyone in our community is treated with dignity and respect. While our opponents are emboldened and on the attack, the Human Rights Campaign and our grass-roots army of more than 3.2 million members and supporters are energetically defending the rights we’ve gained and ramping up our fight for full equality across the board.
The alarming spate of anti-LGBTQ+ bills introduced across the country in 2020 has continued to surge in 2021. These include bills that would prohibit transgender youth from receiving genderaffirming care and bills that would prohibit transgender youth from participating in sports. This wave of anti-transgender legislation harkens back to the surge of anti-transgender bathroom bills that hit state legislatures in 2016, including North Carolina’s HB2. We remain committed to aggressively fighting these threats to equality by those who seek to undermine our rights. HRC will do whatever it takes to protect the rights and fundamental equality of every LGBTQ+ person in this country.
HRC’s decades-long work to build political power has uniquely positioned us to reach LGBTQ+ and ally voters who prioritize equality on the ballot, also known as Equality Voters. HRC has identified 57 million Equality Voters nationwide who, if they turn out to vote, will support pro-equality candidates. HRC’s early and sustained year-round engagement in battleground states like Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin bolstered historic turnout in 2018 and 2020 producing pro-equality outcomes at every level of government. In 2019, HRC’s mobilization of Equality Voters in Virginia, where lawmakers had repeatedly blocked proequality bills over many years, produced groundbreaking progress for LGBTQ+ Americans in the South. These victories led to the Virginia Values Act becoming law, making Virginia the first state in the South to advance statewide nondiscrimination protections for LGBTQ+ people.
The HRC Foundation improves the lives LGBTQ+ people by building understanding and shaping the public debate of LGBTQ+ people and the challenges they face through innovative research and public education campaigns. We also change the policies and practices in the institutions that shape our everyday lives (hospitals, schools, workplaces, and more) and empower strategic partners, community advocates, and allies through convenings and capacity-building. Guided by these theories of change and seeking to prioritize work impacting those who are multiply marginalized, we have 11 cuttingedge programs advancing equality in the U.S. and beyond.
