GAMBIA DEVELOPMENT SCHOOL JUNE 2018 INVITATION TO APPLY AS A PARTICIPANT 19th June – 3 July 2018


GAMBIA DEVELOPMENT SCHOOL Attending the Gambia Development School is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity that will challenge you and encourage you to engage in a transformative learning process, impacting the way you perceive and interact with the world. Participants will experience the hustle and bustle of Brikama market, deconstruct their observations on golden beaches and visit a range of cultural sites including the Kunta Kinteh Island slavery houses. They will also experience everything from volunteering on building projects to going on a short placement visit, relevant to their chosen studies or interests.

HIGHLIGHTS Visit historical sites including Kunta Kinte Island (formerly James Island), Fort Bullen and Gambia National Museum. Learn about globalisation and cultural competence. Work with a village/community through a participatory action approach to identify their problems and develop solutions. Embark on a placement with a local company or organisation. Discover new approaches and ways of

Stay with a Gambian family for a day. Test yourself to the limits and make new friends for life.


HOW TO APPLY If you are intertested in taking part in the June 2018 Gambia Development School email admin@global-hands.co.uk to request an application form. Please note that places are limited to 15 participants. To take part in this trip you must meet Gambian immigration requirements. UK citizens do not need a visa before travelling and flights and accommodation for this opportunity will be booked by Global Hands. Dates may be subject to

change due to flight availability. Estimated departure date: Tuesday 19th June. Estimated return date: Tueday 3rd July.

ABOUT GLOBAL HANDS Global Hands is a Leicester-based Social Enterprise set up in January 2012 and a Charity in The Gambia run by current and former De Montfort University staff and students motivated to do public good. Global Hands aims to tackle issues regarding local and global inequality by raising consciousness about local and global issues through community engagement. Additionally, Global Hands is interested in supporting people to build their capacities to address these issues.
