With gratitude,
Theron Dancy Humanitarian Parole Aid Inc Editor-in-ChiefIn the heart of adversity, a unique initiative gives hope and support to those seeking safety and stability.
In January 2023, the Department of Homeland Security unveiled a transformative initiative the Humanitarian Parole Program. Designed to offer sanctuary to individuals from Haiti, Cuba, Venezuela, and Nicaragua, the program represents a beacon of hope for those escaping perilous conditions. This initiative allows them to seek asylum in the United States for two years, providing a crucial lifeline.
In February 2023, a call for help from my Haitian college roommate introduced me to the Welcome Corps and the inspiring Private Sponsorship Program. Motivated to make a difference, I formed a sponsorship circle. Despite facing time and financial constraints that led to the dissolution of the group, my resolve did not waver. I persevered and successfully sponsored thirteen courageous souls including four Haitians, two Cubans, six Venezuelans, and one Nicaraguan These individuals, skilled in education, mechanics, and cruise ship operations, looked to me as their pillar of support, having no family ties in the US
Settling in Little Rock, Arkansas, posed its own set of challenges due to the limited cultural diversity However, the response from these thirteen resilient individuals was profoundly humbling They embraced the peacefulness of Little Rock, preferring the calm over their previous lives marked by constant danger and deprivation. Since March 2023, as their sponsorship applications progressed, I have built deep, personal connections with each of them and engaged with community stakeholders committed to ensuring their successful resettlement
Their journey is a testament to the power of solidarity and the human spirit As we continue to support them in their transition, their gratitude and optimism remind us of the profound impact of extending a helping hand
