Our breweries have put Asheville and Western NC on the craft beer map, earning numerous accolades including five medals at the prestigious 2017 Great American Beer Festival, held every October in Denver. Pisgah Brewing Company 2019 marks the 14th year in the eastern valley. Made exclusively with all organic malts, Pisgah Pale Ale is tucked into nearly every cluster of taps in the county and easily found in cans at local grocers. Catawba Brewing Catawba Brewing has been an industry leader in WNC’s craft beer scene for 20 years. Asheville’s Original Craft Brewery Highland Brewing was founded in 1994 by retired engineer and entrepreneur Oscar Wong, establishing it as the pioneer of Asheville, NC’s now booming craft beer industry. Since 2015, the company has been led by Wong’s daughter, Leah Wong Ashburn, and has 60 full-time employees.

With a portfolio that is equal parts established and inventive, Highland is known for consistently excellent beer. The brewery is in a rehabilitated manufacturing facility on a hilltop, affording space for thousands of visitors to enjoy limited release beers, tours, walking trails, and live music.

Biltmore Big Top Hi-Wire Brewing is known for producing balanced and approachable lagers and ales that are available in stores across NC, SC, TN, GA, KY, and OH. The Big Top Production Brewery is the backbone of their operation, producing all of Hi-Wire’s flagship beers and featuring a spacious taproom and cozy bier garden. South Slope Brewery Hi-Wire’s South Slope Specialty Brewery is the creative hub of Hi-Wire. Their journey began in the summer of 2013 at this 2,700-square-foot South Slope Brewery. Today it has transitioned from brewing a wide variety of one-time-release ales and lagers to brewing exclusively sour and wild beers. Although this shift does not change Hi-Wire’s core lineup of beers, it makes it one of the nation’s only breweries to have a speciality program that revolves around both craft lagers and sour beers.
