MANDAI X NAFA

Based on a live-client project, The Singapore Zoo is on a mission to turn a visit to the zoo into a fun adventure, educang and inspiring children to care about the environment and play a role in the future of wildlife preservaon. To do that, we’ll welcome them into the Wildlife Rangers team with the proposal resulng from the collaboraon of Pico and NAFA!

Ranger Buddies Quest was designed to provide curated adventures that surprise, delight, and help children uncover secrets of nature and wildlife in unexpected ways and to expand their knowledge of the natural world. As a team leader, my task was to oversee the submission and quality of the following submission requirements.

- Reptopia Outpost

- An actual working tacle interacce model

- Entrance & Briefing Area

- Kai’s Research Lab

OUTPOST
KIDZWORLD
BRIEF

Reptopia Outpost

Being a 3M x 2M outpost showcasing the diversity of replian adaptaons, our team planned to make body coverings of reples and their camouflage aspect our concept.

From the inspiraon that reples lay eggs to a dome-like sketch with scale-like shapes, the interacve model and outpost structure integrate to save space and represent the concept.

With the team's brainstorming sessions and sketches by my teammates, I assisted in the execuon process in hopes to exercise their creavity.

OUTPOST

An Actual Working Tactile Interactive Model (Pulled) OUTPOST

To connuously engage our rangers, we created this acvity where kids will pull and hold the rope to engage our informaon on our interacve board.

Reples that camouflage could only be seen when observed closely. Similarly, rangers would only see the pieces of informaon when they go close to the interacve board and interact with them.

An Actual Working Tactile Interactive Model (Released) OUTPOST

When released, the informaon on the interacve board will recess backward and camouflage slightly to the background, which is made possible with a semi-translucent material such as mae acrylic.

When the rope is released, the infographics are blured like the picture shown above. Once again, camoflaging to the background.

KIDZWORLD

Overall Concept

Aim to be a place of curiosity, empathy, and deep reflecon. The team wanted a narrave that would feed kid's curious thirst for the unknown. Hence, the team created a themac area inspired by a magical hollow tree to promote kid's curiousity and creavity.

Brainstormed by the team and assisted in the execuon process along with another two teammates, I ensured everyone's opinion were heard, considered and combined when possible to achieve the best creave result.

“DON’T JUDGE A BOOK BY ITS COVER BECAUSE INSIDE IS COMPLETELY MAGICAL.”

“WHERE INTRODUCTION OF CHARACTERS AND MISSION OVERVIEW TAKES PLACE.”

KIDZWORLD

Introduction & Briefing Area

A place for rangers to be introduced to the characters, its mission, cheer, and the suing up ritual, the two opposing walls were created accordingly.

Displayed on a screen uniquely and organically framed to the tree's trunk and branches, the other wall would reveal a bunch of vests for the kids to suit up aer the briefing is over before moving on to Kai's Research Lab.

KIDZWORLD

Kai’s Research Lab

Introduced by Pico, Kai is a character who loves reading books. Thus, the team created a library-inspired space in his Research Lab to reflect his personality.

Enveloped by a studious yet relaxing atmosphere, the open space concept express the message of the vast, and never-ending knowledge books offer.

The middle being the core of the space, an interacve table is placed for rangers to access addional informaon not presented within our three acvity areas.

1ST ACTIVITY: (BODY COVERINGS AND PARTS)

“ WHAT’S IN THE BOX?”

Kids will put their hands into the log without seeing what’s inside and try guessing the correct answer.

Addionally, the interacve log will ask them reasons for their answers.

Hence, the rangers are encouraged to really think or observe the bookshelves which will contain hidden clues on the book tles.

01 02 03

“DOING SO, ALLOWS THEM TO NOT ONLY BE MORE MINDFUL OF THEIR SURROUNDINGS BUT SPARK CURIOUSITY AMONG THEM”

2ND ACTIVITY: (CAMOFLAUGE AND MIMICRY)

“ FIND THE CAMOFLAUGE ANIMAL!”

Kids will tap the glowing books to start the excursion mission, which will use projecon mapping.

When the players are ready, the pictures on the board will glow indicating the animal Kai is looking for.

Players would then match the animals Kai is looking for to those shown on the books to finish the mission.

Promong Teamwork and exercising observaon skills, this is an acvity where rangers help Kai’s outdoor excursion in tracking the camouflage animals.

Tracking animals are common pracce by scienst and zoologist to study animals, or even protect them. Hence, the inspiraon.

3RD ACTIVITY: (LOCOMOTION)

An Interacve acvity where rangers pull, blow, and drum on sensors to save the projected digital animals from the threat endangering their habitat.

One of those threats are deforestaon, poachers or even forest fire which is the example shown above. Kids get to play all these different scenarios and stages together as a team.

“ SAVE THEM BEFORE IT’S TOO LATE!”
“AS A RESULT, PROMOTING TEAMWORK TOO WHILE THEY ARE AT IT”

INTRODUCTION

Held at Marina Bay every year, Asia's leading sustainable light fesval, iLight Singapore invites terary students to propose original, site-specific, and relevant light-art installaons for their 2023 student call. Seizing the opportunity, my project leader pulled me in to form the following team.

Isabel Lim Pei Qian (Project Leader) Ding Hui Ping (3D Designer) Verent (Concept Artist) Ding Hui Ping (Graphic Designer)

Having a curatorial theme every year, the tle 'A New Wave' associated with the color blue was given for 2023 and characterised as below.

TECHNOLOGY INNOVATION INTELLIGENCE

INTROSPECTION SERENITY

Tasked with the following brief and designated role, the team would conduct brainstorming sessions via Google Meet and an online portal, Miro to produce the following developments. However, not all was smooth sailing due to the difference in opinions from members of relavely different design backgrounds. Despite it all, we overcame it together and experienced working with people from other fields, which was an eye-opening experience and lesson for all of us. Truly, enjoying the process, we aim to join the project again next year and be selected for iLight 2024.

BRIEF

DEVELOPMENTS

CONCEPT

Inspired by swarm intelligence, the art of synchronicity becomes crucial as animals, especially insects, must stay in sync and connected to find food and survive. Locusts are a powerful example of this. Being able to survive, feed and even threaten human beings, they are a prime example of the power unity and interconnected individuals or technology could have over our generaon.

Acknowledging their potenal and drawing inspiraon from nature, the New Wave would bring individuals together to create improved products, services, and soluons for society, formed by the collecve opinion of the masses instead of a singular voice.

SYNOPSIS

Living in a mulgeneraonal household certainly carries its perks such as enhanced bonds or relaonships among family members, making it easier to provide care needs of a family member, and many more. However, with more people living together, issues such as less privacy and family tension become increasingly apparent. As each will have less personal space than if they lived separately and with the clash of different personalies, family conflicts may arise. Therefore, it's crucial to create a home that fits their different style and needs as there's no one size fits all. Hence, I like to introduce "NEO-UNION" which aims to fuse aesthecs from 3 different generaons to create a new symphony within this mulgeneraonal family. One that embodies the family members' individuality yet harmonizes with one another.

LAYOUT PLAN

Throughout the spaal planning process, numerous changes were made. However, hacking and restructuring the original layout was refrained unless necessary to reduce the use of resources, budget, and manpower during the construcon process.

The previous dining room had been converted to the grandmother's room for ease of access. As a result, the dry kitchen & dining were combined to create a dining feature for the family. Addionally, the helper's room was moved above for convenience in taking care of the daughter.

CONCEPT

Inspired by the brief, NEO-UNION gave birth by segregang the 3 associated aesthec/descripve words into design elements which will then be reunited to create the actual design.

DEVELOPMENTS

FOYER & WET KITCHEN

Carefully curated with the consideraon of human behaviors and the narrave of a long exhausng day. Family members could sit and place their belongings on the bench or foyer before taking off their shoes and placing them into the cabinet.

Meanwhile, the wet kitchen centers around a mini island that considers funcons for heavy cooking, dining space for the maids, or even opportunies for bonding between the kids and the mother as its primary acvies.

FAMILY AREA (RAMP FEATURE)

Desgmazing being physically impaired, the fun twist of a mini golf area combined with the ramp occurs whenever it isn't ulized. Hence, a mul-purpose and converble ramp. Greatly taking inspiraon from the father's interest in golfing, consideraons of elderly tendecies to feel they are a burden to the family were empathized with, and soluons were regard accordingly.

LIVING AREA (MUSIC CORNER)

Dedicated to the mother's musical background, a music corner in the living area was also created to encourage bonding between the family members. Empty Gaps beside the piano are allocated to squeeze in instrument cases as ease of storage.

Purposely frame to be the center of aenon and area of bonding. So Lighng and a subtle marble finish help create a relaxing atmosphere. Addionally, the grandmother in wheelchair could join family bonding by the allocated empty space at the living area shown in the layout plan.

LIVING AREA (TV CONSOLE)

MASTER BEDROOM & BATHROOM

The use of so furnishing, intriguing layout, and asymmetrical composion was crucial in creang balance and serenity within the oddly shaped master bedroom.

The mother is a lawyer, while the father is a businessman. Hence, addional desk space was taken into account, considering their occupaon. Addionally, a bespoke half-height headboard was designed to appropriately segregate the funcon of work and rest within the bedroom.

Not fighng between morning rounes, a his and her sink vanity was placed in the master bathroom, accompanied by a luxurious gold veined marble serving as the base of it.

SYNOPSIS

Located at Kandahar Street within the charming shophouses, the Gem Museum needed a remodeling. The task was to remodel a retail + gallery + office space to the 2nd storey and ac for the founder of The Gem Museum. The concept for my proposal was call new beginnings which derived from moonstone, and that’s the space I want to give to my client. New beginnings were connected with spaal words such as Contrast, Transion & Gradient to select the materials. I picked materials such as marble to make the space more luxurious. Apart from that, aluminum joinery with a gold finish balances out the contrasng colors and textures within the museum.

Project Brief

Use hatching, cross-hatching, scribbling or sppling to create an A3 final project based on a reference that gives a sense of depth and realism.

My thought process

Wanted to draw something I like, I took the courage on an ambious idea to make something 2D into 3D and these were my final results. As a self-taught arst doing what she loves since young this truly made me proud.
