Welcome to the 7th Newsletter of the EV4EU project!

The EV4EU Horizon Europe Programme project involves a consortium of 16 beneficiary partners (+ 6 associated partners) from 4 European countries: Denmark, Greece, Portugal, and Slovenia and demonstration sites are currently installed in all four countries to test the V2X management strategies and tools.

The project completed its initial 42month duration in November 2025; however, an extension until May 2026 was requested and approved. Activities will continue through this period to ensure that all planned results are fully achieved.

This 7th EV4EU Newsletter presents a look into the project´s progress and key activities held between June 2025 and December 2025.

As we concluded Month 42, we are pleased to share an update on the project's latest advancements.

First, it is essential to remember that the project was initially planned to conclude in November 2025; however, a six-month extension was granted to ensure that all activities are successfully achieved.

Through the effort of all EV4EU partners, we are almost reaching all the project targets: we have now completed 40 tasks, submitted 50 deliverables, of which 48 have already been approved, published 58 scientific articles, including conference (36) and journal (22) papers, and 24 students have presented their bachelor/master dissertations.

Over the past six months, EV4EU has reached significant milestones. Efforts kept focused on the Demonstrators and on advancing the development of exploitation and innovation strategies, as partners begin shaping concrete plans to maximize the impact and application of the project’s results.

Our social media presence, particularly on LinkedIn has continued to grow, surpassing 1500 followers, and we’ve attended or coorganized over 80 events.

One of the key events of the past six months was the project’s return to Enlit Europe, held in Bilbao, Spain, from November 18 to 20. After a successful debut in Milan last year, the team returned to one of Europe’s leading energy events to showcase the project’s progress and emerging solutions as it enters its final phase (more information here).

Looking ahead, a closing event will take place in May 2026 in Budapest, during the TRA BUDAPEST 2026 where we will share the project’s results with a wide audience and hope to welcome many members of our consortium and sister projects.

On the technical side, we continue working diligently to ensure that all project goals are met, and we will share further details soon.

With 43 months into the project, we have been focusing on exploring the project’s key exploitable results and the updated Exploitation deliverable led by Smart Energy Lab was submitted at the end of November.

From a technological perspective, EV4EU has introduced a new, cost-effective V2X solution for condominiums and small businesses. This solution is patented and has already entered the commercial exploitation phase. Another key achievement of the EV4EU project is the development of the Open-V2X management platform, which enables the management of public charging stations with V2X capabilities. This open-source platform is available to charge point operators (CPOs) and offers a crucial feature: the ability to interact with system operators, facilitating participation in flexibility services. In addition, the project has developed a solution for managing EV flexibility through a virtual power plant, enabling EVs to participate in both national and local electricity markets. A specialised solution for planning and activating this flexibility by DSOs has also been proposed and tested.

Looking behind the meter requires several methodologies and algorithms to be applied in homes, buildings, parking lots, companies, and energy communities. These solutions are now being tested in demonstrators installed in four European countries – Portugal, Denmark, Greece and Slovenia.

In the final months, the primary goal is to complete all planned tests and thoroughly assess the effectiveness of the proposed methodologies, ensuring they meet both technical and operational expectations. It is essential to conduct a comprehensive evaluation of the benefits offered by smart charging and vehicle-to-grid strategies in mitigating grid constraints.

These strategies aim not only to minimize the need for substantial investments in power grids and increasing installed capacity within buildings, but also to support a more sustainable and efficient use of existing infrastructure. Additionally, they facilitate the integration of renewable energy sources, enhance the grid's resilience, and enable the provision of critical grid services within local energy markets. Exploitation Plan Update—Deliverable 10.6 This work provides an updated exploitation plan building on the version submitted at M12 (D10.5). Across the project, 16 KERs were identified, supported by 35 exploitation pathways. These represent a diverse set of opportunities, including product development, commercialisation, new partnerships, further R&D initiatives, participation in EU-funded projects, and provision of services to end-users and grid operators.

Project partners have defined clear exploitation strategies, with most plans showing intermediate to high maturity. Continued collaboration beyond the project will be crucial to fully realise the exploitation potential, especially regarding refinement of business models, IP strategy, costs and revenue structures, and market validation.

The results confirm the relevance of EU objectives in the V2X domain but highlight the need for further large-scale development, reinforcing the importance of programs like Horizon Europe to sustain innovation efforts.

This deliverable presents the Data Management Plan (DMP) for the EV4EU project, aligned with Horizon Europe’s Open Science principles. EV4EU has implemented a data management framework that secures storage, guarantees traceability, and enables consistent integration of datasets from all demonstrators and Work Packages. Standardised formats, interoperable protocols, and harmonised metadata support effective modelling, simulation, and social validation of V2X strategies. The plan combines Open Science practices with strong privacy and cybersecurity measures, using trusted tools such as Microsoft SharePoint, PostgreSQL, and MariaDB. This approach ensures high data quality, interoperability, and transparency across partners, creating a solid foundation for ongoing research, collaboration, and innovation in sustainable e-mobility.

Both deliverables will soon be available for consultation on EV4EU website.

The V2X Cluster, a joint initiative that brings together a group of Horizon Europe sister projects in the field of electric mobility, met on June 13th at the POLIS Network headquarters in Brussels for a collaborative working session, welcoming 3 new projects.

Horizon Booster hosted an Info Session where Hugo Morais, coordinator of EV4EU, discussed the project’s motivations for joining the services in a conversation with Sara Giordani, the EU expert who supported the project through the Go-To-Market (G2M) program. Video available here.

The EV4EU project participated in CIRED 2025, one of the world’s leading conferences on electricity distribution, held from June 16 to 18 in Geneva, Switzerland, sharing its most recent research results on electric mobility and smart grid integration.

The EV4EU project and the V2X Cluster participated in the 38th International Electric Vehicle Symposium & Exhibition (EVS38) held from June 15–18, 2025, in Gothenburg, Sweden.

EV4EU’s Portuguese demonstrator partners met at EDA’s facilities on São Miguel Island, Azores, for a workshop led by SEL. Throughout the one-day session, consortium representatives presented the installed Demonstrator at EDA to eleven of its employees

The EV4EU Project crossed European borders to share its research work with a broader audience at the 2025 IEEE Power & Energy Society (PES) General Meeting, held from July 27 to 31 in Austin, Texas.

EV4EU took part in European Mobility Week 2025 in Funchal, Madeira, a week-long initiative (16 – 22 September) organized by the Municipality of Funchal, Portugal.

On September 18 and 19, members of the V2X Cluster gathered on the Isle of Wight in the UK, to showcase ongoing projects, share lessons learned from real-world demonstrations, and discuss the future of vehicle-to-everything (V2X) integration.

This year, EV4EU joined the celebrations of European Researchers’ Night at the Marina de Oeiras, participating in the INESC-ID stand.

The main aspects of the Greek demo are the deployment and testing of the Open V2X management platform for public chargers, developed by PPC; the integration and testing of the flexibility algorithms for local and system-wide grid services developed by DTU and INESC-ID, and the investigation of exploitation and marketability strategies for the proposed solutions with the contribution of CITROËN.

From October 20th to 23rd, 2025, EV4EU researcher Toni Garcês and Project Coordinator Hugo Morais attended the IEEE PES ISGT Europe 2025 conference in Malta.

Operating under the Portuguese Secretariat for Tourism, Mobility, and Infrastructures - an executive branch of the Azorean Government - DREn is responsible for shaping long-term energy policies aimed at decarbonization.

Role in the Project: DREn supports and participates in demonstration activities on São Miguel Island, where the Portuguese pilot is being implemented. The Institution provides electric vehicles to help validate V2X (Vehicle-to-Everything) energy management in buildings.

One of the two demo sites in Denmark is located at Campus Bornholm in Rønne, on Bornholm Island - often referred to as the “test island.” The site features a 180 kW rooftop PV installation, its own 10/0.4 kV transformer station, 124 parking spaces, and an average of 372 car arrivals per day.

Role in the Project: As part of the EV4EU project, six smart charging stations have been installed in the Campus - each with two outlets - enabling simultaneous charging of up to twelve electric vehicles using energy from solar panels.
