About Me My name is Hugo. I’m a first year student at Nottingham Trent University studying BSC product design. I enjoy fulfilling hobbies such as Drumming, Herpetology, DIY and caring for exotic animals. Aswell as being a designer, I want to be an inventor. This portfolio showcases some of my best work throughout my time at NTU. I have taken a profound intrest in both CAD and rendering and aim to improve my skills as i progress, allowing me to bring my ideas to life.

1 Design Sprint Brief: Consider the challanges of healthcare professionals and design a product to help tackle these every day problems
Product: A charging/data transfer station that is compatible with futurenova Ipad cases accompanied with removable battery packs
2 Research
• time is wasted during the start and at the end of shifts as large numbers of staff are uploading patient data • this bottlenecks the system and causes uploading to become slow • The I-pad must be charged frequently due to >5 hours of battery life • I-Pad takes 4 hours to fully charge • Uses a 32.5 Watt/hr lithium battery
3 Ideation and development
1
- futurnova flip pad case ideation allowing for a battery pack to increase usage time
2
1
2
- battery pack ideation including charge meter, usb-C port and bioshield material for sterilisation
3
- scale model to represent the size of the battery back slot and integration into the flip pad case
4
- scale model of the battery pack to determine battery sizes, clipping function and possible weight

- Battery pack with reciever slots and Usb-C port
- Battery/I-Pad hub connected to the NHS system
- USB slots for data upload and charging - UV light arrays to sterelise I-Pad case and battery pack

1 Matti Labs Brief: Create an innovative and marketable product for matti labs, that makes use of silicone fingers left over from the aerospace industry
Product: A collectable electronic bug with customisable and interchangable parts that can traverse flat surfaces
2 Research
• Silicone fingers are sterile, flexible, soft, water resistant and unconductive • Silicone is ideal for use in a toy and upcycled silicone fingers will greatly reduce cost • $90.7bn industry with cheap toys being more favourable • 78% of toys are sold in store • Children are more likeley to want toys they can see and interact with • Around $212 spent on toys per child per year • Collectable toys are bought more frequently

1
- Long rectangular body with rotating legs, gearing system too small
2
5
3
- More rounded with increased number of legs + added eyes
4
- Teardrop shaped, forward facing legs for balance
- Hexagonal shaped
body with revolving legs, leg positioning could obstruct eachother
1
- Elongated blocky design with 10 back and 2 forward facing angled legs to move the toy forward when vibrating from a weighted DC motor
4 Final Design Removed eyes and antenne to create a futuristic look, Multiple colour schemes can be made to emphesise a collectable product. Lids and fingers can be interchanged for better customisation and personalisation
1 - ABS plastic
5 - Rounded ABS base
2 - Clip Reciever hole
6 - Hollow silicone finger
3 - Weighted DC motor
7 - Interchangable silicone finger
4 - AA battery
8 - High tolerance clipping mechanism
1 Hack Your 5 a day Brief: Design and create a 3D printable toy that supports a healthy eating campaign, to encourage children to eat healthy food. The toy must be based around a healthy fruit or vegetable which your 3D printed parts can adhere/stick into
Product: A robot designed for round fruit with moving arms and mechanichal detailing. 3D printed with PLA made for 9-10 year olds
2
Research
• Healthy eating campaigns help promote to promote healthy eating and provide resources making it easier for children to adopt a balanced diet • Educating parents is as important as educating children as they directly influcence their childs diet • A poor diet can lead to malnutrition and obesity • Children will likely respond well to fun promotions, rewards and meal plans • It is important to make healthy earing fun and appealing as children will almost allways choose unhealthy options with high sugar and fat content

Ideation and development
1
- Robot head ideation, ears have been removed and an angry face has been adapted to appeal to boys
1
2
- Leg ideation, rounded feet and thin knees
2
3
3
- Added a splint/support to the back of the legs for a hydraulic look with hooved feed
4
- Arm ideation printed as 1 part 5 - Arm split into 3 parts, forearm can be interchanged for better customisation/ personalisation
4
5
6 - Spike ideation, 4 plane spike for better grip in the fruit 7 - Squared of tip for saftey and reduced/tapered base for easier 3D printing due to the reduced overhang
