To emphasize our recommendation that teams adopt HSC in advance of the 2020-2021 season. Detail a specific set of steps that teams need to take in order to make a successful transition to Hudl Sportscode. Remind teams of the risks associated with remaining on Sportscode version 11 for the 2020-2021 season.
“
All of our NBA teams are aware that a new version of Sportscode was released in July 2019. That version is referred to as Hudl Sportscode. By way of review, Hudl Sportscode is a 64-bit application. Beginning with the October 2019 release of macOS Catalina, all Apple OS moving forward will not support 32-bit applications. Sportscode version 11 is a 32-bit application. Prior to the suspension of the NBA season, some teams were using Hudl Sportscode to leverage the benefits of the live-capture workflow; however, all 29 of our NBA clients were still using Sportscode version 11 for their analysis. The suspension of the NBA season provided our team with the opportunity to meet with all of our NBA clients for a review of our Hudl Sportscode platform. During those Zoom sessions, and in our follow up emails, we have strongly encouraged adoption, at the right time, as it will become less tenable to remain on version 11 for reasons having to do with the macOS on new machines, and our Product Team’s focus on investing development resources in the new platform rather than maintaining version 11. days for Hudl Sportscode onboarding, we urge you to schedule those days as soon as possible.
For teams that are not participating in the NBA season restart in Orlando, we are recommending that you begin the adoption process as soon as possible. While adoption timelines will vary from organization to organization, we think all of the items on the transition checklist could be completed in one months time; for that reason, even NBA teams playing on the last possible date for the NBA Finals (October 12, 2020) could reasonably complete the transition prior to the beginning of the 2020-2021. Our team of Tech Analysts, Solutions Consultants, Product Consultants, and Elite Education Strategists can be resources to assist your organization in the adoption process; this can take the form of on-site
NBA teams that have chosen pricing Tier 1 can pay $2,000 for an on-site consultation and training day.
The very best way for your organization to make an informed decision about adoption is to experiment with Hudl Sportscode as your schedule allows; this will help to clarify any questions you have about how your workflows can be executed in the new platform; as you experiment with Hudl Sportscode, please continue to share feedback with us; we can then bubble up that feedback to our Product Team.
As a reminder, the current macOS “sweet spot for teams is 10.14 Mojave; this provides end-users the flexibility to run either Sportscode Classic or

As a response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Hudl has banned all company travel until further notice; of course, on-site visits will not be possible until such time as that travel ban is lifted; if your organization schedules an on-site training date, and if the Hudl travel ban is still in effect on that date, the training sessions will be moved online.

What do users need to know?
What does this mean for support?
Sportscode Version 11 (classic) will never work on macOS 10.15 Catalina or future macOS versions.
We are extending support until July 1, 2021 for those teams wishing to continue to use v11 while working through their transition plans.
New computers come pre-installed with Catalina or later, so will never support version 11. If a user needs to replace any computers going forward then they will only be able to use Hudl Sportscode on that new computer. Users can downgrade to Mojave if they wish to do so. Users will need to work with their IT department to downgrade the macOS.
Our product consultants will continue to respond to queries about version 11 until July, 1 2021. We are unlikely to fix any bugs in version 11 going forward.
Can users work on v11 and Hudl Sportscode at the same time?
What about product enhancements and training?
It’s possible for you to migrate workflows to Hudl Sportscode, but still occasionally use version 11. However this is not straightforward because:
Future product enhancements will only be available in
•
This requires you to remain on macOS 10.14 Mojave. This in turn means you may not be able to purchase new computers.
•
This requires you to convert packages between Hudl Sportscode format and version 11 format.
•
It takes some effort to convert playlists, sorters and organisers between versions
Hudl Sportscode, not version 11. We will no longer update any training material or run training courses for version 11.
For these reasons, we’d strongly encourage teams to migrate as much of their workflows as possible to Hudl Sportscode.
