HOME RUN Hubbub’s one-day employee engagement activity that brings remote teams together to have fun, learn new skills and make a difference to the environment.
Challenge your employees to green their home-office in just one day
How so? Employees will be sent on a race around their home to green their ‘home-office’. Held via video conference, ‘players’ will compete to complete a range of on-the-spot eco challenges that will help them pick up useful skills and adopt green behaviour to reduce their personal carbon footprint at home. Employees will also get stuck into ice-breakers, a plant-based cook-along, breakout discussions, juicy stats, pledge-making and problem-solving. There’s no time to waste and we’re here to uncloak some absolute carbon heroes!

The context The social and environmental impacts of homeworking.
Research carried out in July 2020* estimated that UK firms could face a ‘black hole’ of 470,000 tonnes of carbon this year due to unaccounted energy use incurred by employees at home, potentially undermining the UK’s long-term net zero emissions ambition. So, no wonder environmental sustainability has joined employee wellbeing at the top of the corporate agenda!
•
50% of employees want their employer to do more to tackle the environmental impact of working from home.
•
Only 1 in 5 are getting support from employers to work and live more sustainably at home.
•
61% agreed they would like to help reduce the environmental impact of working from home.
2021 Hubbub polling set out to understand how far should employers go to support their employees to work more sustainably from home. We discovered that employees want to almost double the time they work from home compared to life before COVID-19 and over half of the people polled noticed an increase in use and costs for gas and electricity.
•
Only 28% said their employer has communicated the organisation’s sustainability strategy to them and how they can play a role.
We wrote a blog post about it all here!

Home Run has been designed to tackle two things:
1
The environmental impacts of increased homeworking: employers can encourage their employees to take an active role in helping them reach their sustainability goals.
2
Employee isolation: employers are looking for ways to build team spirit, connectedness, motivation, performance and engagement
Through some healthy competition and whole lot of fun, Home Run boosts morale and teaches new sustainability habits/skills that will transfer between home and office, helping your people nail home working whilst benefitting the society as a whole. Small actions, big impact.
Case Study: KPMG “
Home Run is yet another example of Hubbub leading from the front around environmental behaviour change. Thinking proactively and with great innovation, Home Run and their other campaigns provide organisations, employees and individuals with practical, clear and easy to implement positive actions to reduce their environmental impact. They impressively manage to introduce themes of fun and enjoyment when tackling topics and crises of intimidating magnitude, empowering participants to play their part, and identify the most environmentally conscious option as the most desirable option.
