LITTLE MOVERS CAMPS For ages 3 to 5 years Half-day camps run Mondays through Fridays from 9am–12:30pm. $250 per child, per week.

Students will be placed by age and skill level through our national audition tour in January and February 2017 (see our website for specific dates), or at our Intermediate/Advanced Intensive audition April 30, 2017 in Chicago.

Our Intermediate/Advanced Intensive is ideal for serious dancers who are working towards advanced and pre-professional course work. Intensive I students take ballet, modern, contemporary, Pilates, yoga, improvisation, and composition courses. Students apply techniques through the learning of repertory phrases and perform for family and friends at the conclusion of each week.

Hubbard Street’s Summer Intensives offer unique opportunities for committed dancers to refine their skills in multiple forms, broaden their dance vocabulary, and explore the latest in contemporary movement with top artists in the field. Train with company dancers, choreographers, and special guests.

INTERMEDIATE/ADVANCED INTENSIVE For dancers ages 12–18

Hubbard Street’s Youth Dance Camps offer creative and technical performance opportunities all summer long, for young dancers, beginning to advanced, ages 18 months to 18 years.

Students wiggle and giggle as they establish a lifelong love of dance, exploring their world through creative movement activities and Story Time Dance. We offer a week of fun to build gross motor skills, musicality, and kinesthetic confidence.

Our Advanced Summer Intensive program is for students considering careers in dance performance. Students learn repertory excerpts as well as complete works, culminating in a showing on the final day, and are offered discussions on topics such as careers in dance, health, and wellness. The Advanced Intensive program is held on campus at Columbia College Chicago, located in Chicago’s South Loop. Housing and Meal Plan available upon request.

PRIMARY DIVISION

Intro to Hip-Hop Personal voice and style are at the core of hip-hop dance. Through the traditions, music, and movement of this dynamic dance form, students develop the confidence to share their story in a new way.

DANCE EXPLORERS CAMPS Ages 5 to 9 Must be entering Kindergarten by Fall 2017.

Full-day camps run Mondays through Fridays from 9am–4pm. $450 per child, per week.

Intro to Musical Theater Young dancers have the most amazing imaginations! Through acting and dancing, students embody a variety of characters from Broadway musicals, develop confidence and stage presence, and explore the unique style of dance in the theater world.

Calling young dance artists! For new and experienced movers, Dance Explorers Camp encourages energetic students to discover their creative voice and perform together! As they explore techniques that support contemporary dance, including ballet, West African Dance, jazz, hip-hop, and musical theater, they’ll collaborate, create, and perform their own dances inspired by the world around them.

Intro to Ballet In a welcoming and fun environment, dancers explore the foundations of traditional ballet technique through the lens of classical favorites such as Cinderella, Coppélia, and Firebird.

Intro to Contemporary Jazz Contemporary Jazz is the current interpretation of a classic dance form: jazz! Students will take classes in jazz, hip-hop, modern, and ballet, the techniques that comprise this exciting and popular genre that appears on stages and screens large and small.

Intro to West African Dance and Hip-Hop In this unique workshop, students will get a glimpse of how the musicality, isolations, groundedness, and articulations of West African Dance have evolved into the foundations of today’s hip-hop lexicon.

SECONDARY DIVISION JUNIOR INTENSIVE Ages 9 to 13, Beginner/Intermediate Hubbard Street offers (3) one-week Junior Intensive sessions. Students may attend one, multiple, or all three sessions, as different material will be covered each week. Placement classes will be held on the Monday of each week.

Our Junior Intensive program is ideal for emerging dancers who are working toward intermediate and advanced course work. Junior Intensive students take ballet, modern, jazz, improvisation, and composition courses. Students perform for family and friends at the conclusion of each week. No audition required.

This intensive is especially designed for those teens just beginning their dance training, coming back to dance after some time off, or who need to get back to basics in order to advance. Students will take classes in ballet, modern, jazz, Pilates, yoga, and composition in an exacting, yet encouraging environment, and will perform for family and friends at the end of the week. No audition required.

HIP-HOP SAMPLER WORKSHOP For ages 9 to 18 At beginner to Advanced levels. Dancers will be placed by age and skill level at the start of the week.

Dancers will develop the fundamentals of hip-hop – rhythm, personal style, and musicality – as they progress to their next level. In this one-week workshop, each day will be devoted to a specific style within hip-hop: breaking, popping & locking, house, and vogue, giving dancers the opportunity to study the history and development of the branches within hip-hop. Dancers may register for one, multiple, or all four days. * July 3–7 (No class Tuesday, July 4)

NEW FOR 2017! THE AFRICAN ROOTS OF HIP-HOP At beginner to Advanced levels. Dancers will be placed by age and skill level at the start of the week.

This workshop will give students a forum to explore the foundational roots of hip-hop in West African Dance. Students will delve into the isolations, articulations, polyrhythms, and groundedness of West African Dance and how these elements have evolved into the hip-hop of today. In addition to movement, dancers will learn about the history, culture, and traditions at the core of these two dynamic and significant dance forms. All West African Dance classes will include live percussionists.
