This event is open to all members of Unit 3 - Faculty, Librarians, Coaches, and Counselors interested in collaborating on research and scholarly activities.

Panel Discussion Date and Time: October 3rd at 3:00-4:00 PM Location: Library 209 - Library Fishbowl Join Drs Matt Johnson (Wildlife), Erin Kelly (Forestry, Fire & Rangeland Management), and Laurie Richmond (Environmental Science & Management) for a discussion about choosing the right grant, building authentic collaborations, and telling a compelling story. This is a fantastic opportunity to learn from experienced colleagues who all write grants that are truly enjoyable to read!

PI Spotlight: Meenal Rana

Dr. Meenal Rana received the 2023 Society for the Study of Social Problems (SSSP) Best Paper Award in Social Entrepreneurship and Innovation. The paper is titled "Youth-Adult Partnership in Social Entrepreneurship and Community Engagement: A Case Study of Daula Village in India," and co-authored by Beth Phelps and Lonny Grafman. Dr. Rana found the opportunity through Pivot, our grant database.

Upcoming Deadlines for Funding Opportunities: Apply Now! There are numerous opportunities for research funding & awards available on the Engagement Hub. Be sure to take advantage of these great opportunities before the deadlines pass:

Research, Scholarship, and Creative Activities Program (RSCA) AY 23-24 This funding supports research, scholarly, and creative activity.

Projects may include support for activities such a research studies writing scholarly papers, textbooks, or monographs; travel to archives or professional conferences; development of pilot studies; collection of preliminary data for grant proposals; participant incentives; recitals, performances, or exhibitions; etc. All members of Unit 3 (Faculty, Librarians, Coaches, and Counselors) are eligible.

Deadline: Thursday, September 14th

Agriculture Research Institute (ARI) AY 23-24 Check out our curated funding opportunity lists in Pivot! These lists include: Conservation & Wildlife Energy Resources Health Education Psychology Water Resources And more!

ARI funds are available to all tenured, tenure-track faculty, or research associates engaging in agricultural research, including forestry and aquaculture. Projects must be focused on applied research with strong industry collaboration, and a goal to positively impact California agriculture, natural resources and food systems. The match requirement is 100% of the requested amount, with at least 25% of this from cash and the remainder in-kind. Note that the cash match simply means that you may leverage an existing grant or contract (excluding grants supported from the CSU general fund) with funds not already committed to match associated with your ARI Proposal. Reach out to a Pre-Award Specialist ASAP if interested.

204 Form Now Required For Student Payments A Vendor Data 204 Form will now be required to be on file with the university before making any student payments. This includes all reimbursement types, including travel. This is required by California State Revenue and Taxation Code, Section 18646 to facilitate tax compliance and other information returns as required by the Internal Revenue Code, Section 6109(a).

In an effort to expedite payments, please be sure Accounts Payable has received the required form before submitting a Payment Request. SPF strongly suggests sending out this secure link to all your students in advance of submitting payments.

Students can also sign up to receive direct deposit, which will expedite the process and prevent having to change any 204 forms because of any address change.

Rate Changes to State Indirect Costs The California State University (CSU), University of California (UC), and the California Department of General Services (DGS), on behalf of the state agencies, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a standard model agreement format, including standardized proposal requirements for contracts and grants, as part of State Assembly Bill 20 (AB20).

The California Model Agreement (CMA) provides model contract terms for use by State of California

agencies that fund research, training or service activities performed by campuses of the UC and CSU systems.

As of July 1, 2023 the rate for all state contracts has increased from 30% to 35%. Exceptions to this rule can only be made with approval from the Chancellor's office. For more information, please see the CSU CMA website.

Updates to Tax and Health Benefits on SPF Grants Every year there are changes to our tax and health benefit rates. Although taxes went down a bit this year, insurance rates for benefitted employees went up significantly. Current rates can be found here.

Featured Funding Opportunities NSF | Racial Equity in STEM Education (EHR Racial Equity) Supports projects focused on advancing racial equity in STEM education and workforce development that are led or co-developed by individuals and communities most impacted by the inequities caused by systemic racism.

Proposals may request up to $5M for a duration of up to 5 years.

Application Deadline: October 10, 2023

NEH | Spotlight on Humanities in Higher Education Supports the exploration and development of small projects that would benefit underserved populations through the teaching and study of the humanities. This program offers two levels of funding (Exploration: up to $25,000; Development: up to $60,000).

Application Deadline: October 11, 2023

NEH | Collaborative Research

NEH | Public Scholars Supports individual authors for research, writing, travel, and other activities leading to the creation and publication of wellresearched nonfiction books in the humanities written for the broad public.

Awards up to $5,000 per month for a period of six to twelve months.

Application Deadline: November 29, 2023

RSF | Behavioral Science and Decision Making in Context Supports research furthering understanding of economic, social, and political decisionmaking processes, attitudes, behaviors, and institutional practices in public and private contexts. Awards up to $50,000 or $75,000, depending on project needs.

Application Deadline: November 7, 2023

NIFA | Agriculture and Food Research Initiative - Education and Workforce Development

Supports research in a single field of study or interdisciplinary work with collaboration by teams of two or more scholars. The program includes four project categories: Planning International Collaboration, Convening, Manuscript Preparation, and Scholarly Digital Projects. Awards up to $250,000.

Supports professional development, workforce training, and non-formal education opportunities in the food and agricultural sciences. Awards range $20,000-$750,000.

California Coastal Commission | WHALE TAIL

Sequoia Park Zoo | Conservation Grant Program

Application Deadline: December 7, 2023

Proposals should be submitted for projects that have a clear direct impact on conservation of wildlife and/or habitat.

Appropriate projects include proposals for research, certain educational programs, and habitat management. Awards up to $3,000.

Supports experiential education and stewardship of the coast and its watersheds.

Grant projects can engage youth or adults, and may include: youth education programs, programs for educating the general public, climate change education and stewardship, shoreline cleanup and enhancement programs. Awards up to $50,000.
