We have been working hard in the last year to reimagine Henderson as a college that works for all students, and this has led to some changes in our operations. Our goal is to connect you with degrees that lead to high-demand careers and to provide the resources that make this possible.

We are implementing a new system called Banner and experienced some delays in recent weeks. Therefore, we have created this guide, one of multiple communications which will be distributed throughout the semester, to help you catch up with any questions related to your bill, class schedule, and general information about starting the fall semester.

FREE MONEY

All fully admitted first-time freshman students who submit their official high school transcripts and test scores and who are eligible will be awarded a scholarship!

Grants are usually based on financial need and don't have to be repaid.

BORROWED MONEY Loans are an investment in your future. But remember, they must be repaid with interest.

The Henderson State University Foundation offers scholarships that may be applied for annually. All currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students, freshmen, and transfer students may apply.

THE FREE APPLICATION FOR FEDERAL STUDENT AID (FAFSA) To complete the FAFSA, go online to STUDENTAID.GOV. Under "Apply for Aid" select "Complete the FAFSA form." See the next page in the New Student Guide for more information.

FAFSA GUIDE

WHAT IS THE FAFSA?

The FAFSA, or Free Application for Federal Student Aid, is one of the most important steps students and their families can take to pay for college. The application must be filled out in order for a college to award the student any federal aid. The steps below will help you fill out the FAFSA the right way and qualify for maximum benefits. Remember, you must complete a FAFSA form each school year!

CREATE YOUR FSA ID

Visit studentaid.gov, click "Create Account" and Create a FSA ID. This is a username and password which allows you to sign your FAFSA electronically.

FILL OUT YOUR FAFSA APPLICATION

Start and complete your FAFSA as soon as possible and stay up to date on changes to the FAFSA requirements.

FILL OUT YOUR STUDENT DEMOGRAPHICS SECTION This is your full name, date of birth, social security number, and other personal information. If you are renewing your FAFSA, your information will be carried forward from the last application, saving you time.

ANSWER THE DEPENDENCY STATUS QUESTION

In the "School Selection" add Henderson State University using the institutional code 001098 so that we will receive your information.

Now, you will answer questions to determine whether you need to provide parent information on your 6.

FAFSA. These questions determine whether you are considered a dependent student to determine the extent of eligibility for federal student aid. If you qualify as a dependent student, you will have to report parent information. Otherwise, you will skip to step 7.

SUPPLY THE REQUIRED FINANCIAL INFORMATION

Once you complete your FAFSA, you can sign it online with your FSA ID. If you are dependent, your parent must sign the form as well.

FILL OUT THE PARENTAL DEMOGRAPHICS SECTION If you qualify as a dependent student, you will need to fill out the parent demographic TIP information.

SIGN AND SUBMIT YOUR FASFA The FAFSA form asks for financial information, including information from tax forms and balances of savings and checking accounts. If you are a dependent, your parents will provide their financial information into your FAFSA.

For those living on campus, Move-In Day is on Saturday, August 13 at 8 a.m. and is a huge step in beginning your college career. HSU staff are here to help with anything you may need on Move-In Day and for the rest of your time at Henderson State!
