INTRODUCTION
Hello!
My name is Hannah Spielberg, and I am a second year Interior Architecture student at The University of Kansas. I have completed Spring 2020-Current semesters remotely, making use of softwares like Sketchup, Revit, InDesign, Photoshop, Fresco, etc. as well as Miro, Zoom, and Microsoft Teams for Studio meetings and critiques. My Fall 2020 semester focused on medical and clinic design. I integrated ideas of safety and inclusivity into our projects, while beginning to learn ADA requirements, as well as considering human factors in my designs. My portfolio showcases my first-year highlights, my secondyear digital and rendering development, as well as my most recent project from February 2021. 3
Fall 2019 - Arch 108
TRANSFORMATION: The Wall System In Arch 108, we were focusing on motifs and abstract ideation. The project at hand was to create a freestanding wall through the construction of a pod. The pod was created from a series of collages and sketch models. The collage I chose represented the word ‘Infinity.’ The final pod iteration came together in the form of a wall, holding itself up using no glue.

Inspiration: Proun by El Lissitsky Model
Shadow Series
The final project of Arch 108 was the creation of a light box based on El Lissitsky’s ‘Proun.’ The box was to have a clear light concept with corresponding shadows. Its design demonstrated my understanding of how light acts in a space, while exhibiting aspects of Lissitzky’s piece. I presented my work on a series of photographs, drawings, and a final 3D model.

Spring 2020 - Arch 109
ENCLOSURE: The Archipod With the pandemic taking us out of school and work, and now living under quarantine, it only made sense for us to design a living quarter for KU students for the upcoming Fall 2020. The ArchiPod was to be no more than 300 SF of living and working space fit for an architecture student at KU. The site is between Potter Lake and the KU landmark ‘The Companile.’ It was important to take into consideration privacy, lighting, and including an outdoor space for the resident. My final product consisted of a concept diagram, section, floor plan, topographic site model, and a rendering in Sketchup.

FULL CLINIC RENOVATION PROJECT SUMMARY The design project is an urban based Primary Healthcare Clinic. The clinic will be located on the 14th floor of a highrise near 875 North Michigan Avenue. Spaces like waiting rooms and restrooms, as well as private areas for patient rooms, consultation spaces, and offices will be included. My goal was to solve a problem. Privacy is something so sacred, yet often disregarded in the healthcare system. To combat the common malaise patients may feel when invaded with questions upon entrance to a clinic, or the discomfort of being surrounded by many others, during what should be a personal experience, I wanted to leave the decision of each slice of privacy up to the individual. To create spaces of comfort and retreat through geometric screening, and close attention to aspects like: Where patients wait, who they speak to, and making sure everyone experiences their own personal retreat.
CONCEPT To address the common lack of privacy in healthcare settings, allowing patients to create their own comfortable environment based on seating choice, and sensory details like audio and visuals through the use of screens, lighting, and overall aesthetics. CONCEPT DIAGRAM

ENLIGHTENED SPACE - Baha’i Faith
For this project, I chose a faith outside of my own, and researched it’s beliefs and values. With this knowledge, I then applied it to a series of abstract collages, watercolors, and models to come to a final product of a form that conveys light and shadows as a space for spirtual reflection. I was inspired by the Baha’i’s ideas behind life and death, and created a form with growing levels to symbolize the journey of life, with spaces in between to let light into the soul.

Digital Model My finished product was modeled on Revit and rendered using Enscape. I imagined the form in a park, being used as an outdoor space to pass through. In the afternoon, the shadows fall through the top of the structure onto the ground creating a tranquil experience. When it turns to night, the shadows lift up from the exterior of the structure throwing linear shadows onto the ground.
“The body, which is compared to the lamp holding the light of the soul during its time in this world, should be treated with dignity.”
