MSJC Hosts Beach Volleyball Team Kickoff Celebration MSJC | CONTRIBUTED

t. San Jacinto College (MSJC) held a kickoff celebration on Friday, Feb. 11 at its Menifee Valley Campus to honor its new Beach Volleyball team and facility. The event was held at the Menifee Valley Campus MSJC Athletics & Kinesiology Complex, the home of MSJC's new Beach Volleyball team. "This is the beginning of an exciting year at our new MSJC Athletics & Kinesiology Complex and we're proud to celebrate our new Beach Volleyball student-athletes and their new sand courts," said Dr. Roger Schultz, Superintendent/President of MSJC. "We also look forward to celebrating the opening of our new stadium at the complex later this year. This facility is a game-changer for the community.” The $41 million Kinesiology and Athletics Complex is scheduled to open in Fall 2022. It will feature a 5,000-seat stadium with club boxes, providing a new gathering place to celebrate as MSJC hosts graduation ceremonies,

The college district’s 2014 voter-approved Measure AA, a $295 million facilities bond, is funding the construction of the stadium,
which will include a field house; large classrooms and faculty offices; fitness/weight rooms, lockers, team rooms; and a press box. "We're proud to welcome the Beach Volleyball team and its talented student-athletes to
our department," said Patrick Springer, MSJC Dean of Kinesiology and Athletics. "This complex means so much and will enhance the education and training we can provide our student-athletes moving forward."
Leading the Beach Volleyball team is Serinna Eason, the MSJC Kinesiology Chair and Head Coach. She also led the indoor MSJC Volleyball team to its second straight conference championship in November.

t the most recent San Jacinto Unified School District’s board meeting on Feb. 10, the Board of Trustees and Superintendent David Pyle recognized the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians Tribal Council, Soboba Foundation, Tribal Executive Officer Steven Estrada and Sponsorship Coordinator Andrew Vallejos for their generous support of students, families, staff and community. Hit-and-Run Suspect Arrested after Fatal Collision on California Avenue RIVERSIDE COUNTY SHERIFF'S DEPARTMENT | CONTRIBUTED
Police arrested Carlos Arturo Acosta following a fatal hit-and-run on Stetson Avenue Thursday night. According to CHP, the suspect drove a 2008 GMC Acadia in the area of California and Stetson Avenues and hit the bicyclist. Furthermore, the suspect did not stop or render aid to the victim and sped away northbound. Moreover, the Riverside Coun-

ty Fire Department paramedics pronounced the male bicyclist from Hemet dead at the scene. Meanwhile, officers pursued the suspect to a ranch property on Ocean Avenue in Homeland where they took him into custody. Authorities booked 38-year-old Carlos Arturo Acosta of Homeland to Smith Correctional Facility in Banning for suspected hitand-run. At this time, Acosta is being held on a $75,000 bail.

San Jacinto College Superintendent/President Dr. Roger Schultz addressed CalRTA Division 33 members at their February 8th general meeting and shared the extensive growth and improvements made since 2001 when he first joined MSJC as a Vice President of Student Services. Schultz now oversees approximately 24,000 students at four MSCJ campuses in its 1,700-squaremile district, including the San Jacinto, Menifee Valley, San Gorgonio Pass, and Temecula Valley campuses. In the fall of 2022, a new Beaumont Middle College High School campus is due to launch under a partnership between Mt. San Jacinto College and the Beaumont Unified School District. Schultz shared MSJC’s record-breaking graduation statistics, upward trends, and future construction plans, including STEM (science, technology, engineering, math) buildings and an Animated Makerspace (animatronics) for the Menifee Valley and San Jacinto campuses as well as a Kinesiology and Athletics Complex – including a new 5000 seat stadium – at the Menifee campus. Schultz also touted MSJC’s Mobile Career Center, numerous career education programs, Criminal Justice Lab, topnotch nursing program, and its “MSJC Promise” program, which provides qualifying first-time, full-time students with free tuition. sentation were quick to share their amazement at the many changes to the once-small MSJC district. Long-time CalRTA member Mary Daniel stated, “I went to my first class at MSJC back in 1963. This school is a wonderful asset for the kids in our local communities.” Division 33 Board member Elizabeth Midyett was impressed that students in the nursing program were able to use their skills to assist during the COVID crisis, while Board Member at Large Tim Mathos shared that he “never realized just how large the MSJC system was in terms of serving so many traditionally underrepresented students, and the heroic efforts the faculty and staff have put forth to make the college experience accessible to all students, regardless of
