The DEA declared Red Ribbon Week to be the nation’s largest and longest-running drug awareness and prevention program in the country. Today, a new generation of synthetic drugs plague the nation like never before. The most deadly are Fentanyl and Carfentanil, especially among our youth.

VITAL INFORMATON REGARDING CARFENTANIL: 1. One microgram of Carfentanil, about the size of two grains of salt, is lethal.

2. Carmentalnil is produced in underground laboratories in

China and shipped to the United States.

3. Carfentanil is 100 times more potent than Fentanyl, 4,000 times more potent than heroin and 10,000 times more potent than morphine.

4. Carfentanil was developed in 1974 as a tranquilizer to sedate large mammals such as elephants and was soon taken off the market because of its dangerous impact.

5. Drug dealers “cut” their supply of other drugs with Carfentanil. Unsuspecting users have no

ed Ribbon Week opened with The Truth About Drugs Running Team running throughout the Golden Era Productions 525-acre campus on October 24th with red ribbon flying in the air, all as a part of the Mission Inn Race as a fund-raiser for the Mission Inn Foundation, in its 44th year. Due to the COVID pandemic, the Mission Inn offered the option to run the race “virtually.” Participants can run in their own location and log onto the Mission Inn Run website to register their times.

The Golden Era Running Team has long been dedicated to drug prevention. Red Ribbon Week is a drug prevention awareness campaign observed annually on the last week of October. It began as a tribute to fallen DEA special agent Enrique Camerena in 1985. Citizens of his hometown in Calexico, California, opted to wear red ribbons to honor his sacrifice.

The movement became so popular it spread to other states when it was adopted as a national anti-drug campaign by First Lady Nancy Reagan in 1988 when she coined the phrase, “Just say no” to drugs.

t. San Jacinto College (MSJC) faculty, administrators and classified professionals built guitars Oct. 22-24 as part of "Guitar Heroes Operation Twang" at the college's Menifee Valley Campus.

The 10 military veterans built custom guitars based on their own designs and themes Friday through Sunday under a tent on the campus.

The build was part of Hemetbased nonprofit American Patriot Music Project's Veterans Guitar Project. For several years, the group has used the program to provide therapeutic support and music opportunities for veterans and first responders. They hold about two guitar workshops each year.

The three-day build trained the MSJC faculty and classified professionals so they can lead additional builds with student-veterans at MSJC. The college features Veterans Resource Centers that help support the college's military and veteran students and their families.

"We hope to create Veterans Guitar Workshops at any college that has a Veterans Resource Center," said Tony Villegas, the executive director of the American Patriot Music Project, which also features the Temecula area-based American Patriot Band.

The group partners with the National Science Foundation STEM Guitar Building Project.

lanned Parenthood announced the opening of a new health center in Hemet and expansion of its Rancho Mirage and Coachella clinics Monday.

The organization is known for offering affordable and quality healthcare to all regardless

of income and immigration status. Their services include STI testing and treatment, pap tests, breast and cervical cancer screenings, abortion, pregnancy testing and more.

The Riverside County health centers also offer translation services, welcome walk-ins and accept most insurance including Medi-Cal.

Armed Gunmen Enter a Business, Only One Robber is Found An armed robbery with a firearm that took place on October 20th at 4:04 PM sent Hemet Sheriff’s Station Deputies to a business located on the 42000 block of East Florida Avenue. Arriving Deputies secured the scene. Interviews revealed that two armed individuals had entered the business. They brandished their weapons, then fled with several items.

Further investigation was conducted, and several witnesses were contacted. Hemet Sheriff’s Station Investigators arrived onscene to assume the investigation.

One robbery suspect was ID’d as Jeremiah Woods (18), of Hemet. Later that evening, he was located, arrested for robbery, and booked into the county jail.

This ongoing investigation has Investigators searching for other involved and as-yet unidentified subjects. Anyone with information about this armed robbery is urged to contact Investigator Don Atkinson at the Riverside County Sheriff’s Department – Hemet Station (951) 791-3400.

Hemet 38-Year-Old Woman Killed in Multi-Car Collision Friday morning, 38-year-old Amber Chapman was killed in a three-vehicle accident on Sanderson Avenue.

The collision transpired around 6:50 a.m., between Gilman Springs Road and Ramona Expressway. Officers arrived to the scene just south of Beaumont shortly after.

For reasons unknown, three vehicles collided in the area.

However, the events leading up to the accident remain unknown.

Three occupants were trapped inside the wreckage and had to be extricated from their vehicles. Paramedics transported all three patients to local hospitals for further treatment.

In addition, the coroner pronounced Amber Chapman, of Hemet dead at the scene.

Medics say one of the three involved victims that were taken to hospitals was suffering from serious wounds.

At this time, the incident is still under investigation.

Deputies respond to San Jacinto Walmart after reports of armed person Reports of an armed person inside a Walmart store in San Jacinto Monday evening prompted a response from Riverside County Sheriff's Department deputies, although no one was found and no injuries were reported.

"Area has been thoroughly searched. No armed subject located. Area has been deemed safe for the public," the department tweeted around 7:36 p.m.

During the investigation, authorities said there was no active shooter or shooting victims.

A tweet from the sheriff's department shortly before 6:30 p.m. asked the public to avoid the 1800 block of South San Jacinto Avenue as a search was being conducted. Further details about the incident were not immediately available.

Domestic Violence, Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Barricaded Subject On October 26, 2021, about 11:13 A.M., San Jacinto Deputies responded to the 600 block of South Rosario Avenue, San Jacinto, reference a report of domestic violence. After initial investigation and interviews with the victims, the suspect, Raul Mendez, 38 years of San Jacinto, barricaded himself inside his residence.

Mendez made multiple statements he was armed and going to shoot deputies. Containment was established around the residence and members of the Riverside County Sheriff’s Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) team arrived to assist in the apprehension of Mendez. After a standoff, Mendez surrendered to deputies and was safely taken into custody. A search warrant was authored and served at Mendez’ residence where one handgun, ammunition, and drug paraphernalia were seized. Mendez was later booked at the Larry D. Smith Correctional Facility for domestic violence, assault with a deadly weapon, false imprisonment, child endangerment, under the influence of controlled substance, and narcotics addict in possession of firearm.

Soboba Earns Environmental Award SOBOBA BAND OF LUISEÑO INDIANS | CONTRIBUTED

t the GRID Alternatives Inland Empire 10-year anniversary celebration, community leaders and partners who are making a positive impact were recognized through the nonprofit’s annual Sunshine Awards. The Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians received one of six awards presented during the virtual event on Oct. 7.

The Sunshine Award for Environment honors those who are advancing green practices and promoting the benefits of sustainability while creating economic wealth, mitigating environmental impacts and acting inclusively towards all segments of society.

GRID IE positively transforms the lives of residents and communities by providing access to clean, renewable solar energy to low-income families and hands-on job training to help workers enter the solar industry. It began its Sunshine Awards program in 2017 to recognize the community partners, organizations and leaders whose work exemplifies, supports and actualizes those values in the immediate Inland Empire community.

‘El Super’ grocery chain cited for COVID sick leave violations; includes Indio store CSN | CONTRIBUTED

he California Labor Commissioner's Office announced on Tuesday, October 26th that it has cited a Southern California grocery chain for failing to pay or delaying supplemental paid sick leave to 240 workers affected by COVID- 19 at 38 stores, including four stores in Riverside County.

Bodega Latina, which does business as El Super, was cited $1,164,500 after an investigation found that "some workers were forced to work while sick, others were told to apply for unemployment while quarantining or in isolation, while others waited months to be paid," according to the Labor Commissioner's Office.

The Riverside County stores cited are in Moreno Valley, Corona, Riverside and Indio. However, a spokesman for El Super responded Tuesday, say-

ing, "The claims made by the California Labor Commissioner regarding supplemental paid sick leave (SPSL) are false."

"We are and have always been committed to complying with labor laws," El Super spokesman Eric W. Rose said in a statement.

"In this digital age -- when anybody can say anything, however untrue -- trust and track record remain paramount. Our reputation and relationships with our

valued employees are over two decades in the making, which is why our employees put their faith in us. The citations which do not even explain the allegations are without merit, baseless and irresponsible."

According to the Labor Commissioner's Office, some sick workers were told that until they received their test results, they had to come into work even when they displayed COVID-19 symp-

toms. Those who needed to self-quarantine was told to apply for unemployment or disability to cover their isolation time, while others were denied time off to isolate when members of their household tested positive for COVID-19, according to the agency.

In July, the chain was cited by the Labor Commissioner's Office for similar violations affecting 95 workers at three stores in Los Angeles, Lynwood, and Victorville.

Labor Commissioner Lilia Garcia-Brower said that following the July citations, "we heard from additional workers who had their sick leave denied or delayed. We broadened the scope of our investigation to capture as many workers impacted by these violations as possible and provide them what they are due.''

“We are proud and honored to be recognized by GRID Alternatives IE for this Sunshine Award,” Vivanco said. “Over the course of the tribe’s history, we have always been mindful of the resources left for us on this earth and we are constantly looking for ways to improve things. Partnerships like this with GRID really helped us explore those options and take advantage of them.”

Vivanco explained that about five years ago, with the help of the Department of Energy, the tribe was able to complete two 1-megawatt solar fields. They are used to offset current energy cost usage in a sustainable way while providing economic savings used to promote and enhance other tribal community programs.

“That’s really been a kickoff for us and seeing the benefit in that, we progressed into working with GRID and have really taken advantage of everything they have to offer,” he said. “Our fire department is making sure this current project is helping us stay resilient and making sure we have power and that we’re able to restore energy to that service, a major part of our public safety, which is important to us as a tribe.”

GRID Alternatives was awarded a $1.7 million grant from the California Energy Commission (CEC) for a microgrid community solar project and battery backup system on the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians reservation in San Jacinto.

This project will consist of a 55kW DC solar system, installed on a carport at the Soboba Fire Station, with a resilient battery backup system that can last 6-10 hours in case of a power shut off, which will provide an emergency source of power for

the community. The battery backup system (a non-lithium battery) will be led and monitored by the University of California, Riverside’s Office of Sustainability team and energy division.

The California Energy Commission grant project is intended to improve community resilience and community safety, improve operation of critical facilities, provide a platform for new battery technology advancement and advance clean energy goals, reducing the tribe’s total energy cost.

“This project will not only allow emergency services to continue during outages, but will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate climate disasters that cause the outages in the first place,” Castilone said.

Installation for the CEC-funded Soboba Fire Station Carport will commence in November, followed by installation of the battery backup system, and is slated for completion next year.

“We’re honored to be recognized, and honored to be working with GRID,” Vivanco said. “We value the relationship we have with the GRID IE team of Lisa Castilone and Dan Dumovich.

We look forward to doing more and bigger things with you and hope that you continue your efforts throughout Indian Country in the area. We really appreciate that, and I can’t say that enough.”

Vivanco also gave thanks to the Soboba team members that were involved with solar projects on the reservation, which included Michael Castello, Devon Lomayesa, David Hong, Steven Estrada, Ken McLaughlin and Lenell Carter “and the rest of our Soboba team and those from GRID that worked with our team.”

Castilone said, “It’s an honor and privilege for GRID to work with tribal communities right here in the Inland Empire. I’m looking forward to many more projects like this.”

GRID IE developed the Tribal program, which

would evolve into GRID’s National Tribal Program, with the Chemehuevi Indian Tribe where 96 homeowners continue to benefit from renewable energy technology. Recent milestones include piloting California’s first low-income community solar project in partnership with Anza Electric Cooperative and the Santa Rosa Band of Cahuilla Indians and the electric vehicle (EV) charging station and tribal pilot program with the Torres Martinez Desert Cahuilla Indians.

Every GRID Alternatives project is an opportunity for tribal members to learn about solar installation and related energy issues. GRID partners with tribal colleges and workforce development programs to provide students with hands-on solar training and connections to local solar companies, offers workshops and energy efficiency education to tribal members, and works with K-12 schools to introduce students to renewable energy.

Other Sunshine Award honorees for 2021 are, Collaboration: Center for Environmental Research & Technology, University of California, Riverside/ Southern California-Research Initiative for Solar Energy; Equity & Justice: Beneficial State Foundation; Workforce Development: Riverside Unified School District Career Technical Education; Public Partner: Coachella Valley Association of Governments, and; Corporate Partner: Edison International and Anza Electric Cooperative.

GRID IE’s dedicated team of 35 today have many more projects on the horizon and as Jaime Alonso, Executive Director, stated in closing the Sunshine Awards presentation, “GRID IE is answering the call to lead our clean energy future and never losing sight of where the benefits of our labor must flow: people, planet and employment.”

any years ago, my sweet daughter Susanne and my hubby Bob got their heads together and made a video for one of Bob’s Sunday sermons. It was called, “Boiled Alive.” And yes, they actually boiled a frog at our kitchen stove - pretend!

It’s amazing what you can do when you edit a video these days. The frog was not boiled, as it appeared to be - but you didn’t know that until the out-take where it showed Bob with frog in hand headed back to the pet store. Nevertheless, we got a ton of nasty emails slamming us for boiling Mr. Green Frog in the Beckett kitchen. (This video can still be viewed on youtube.com.)

Most people are aware of the term “boiling the frog.”

He sits there getting hotter and hotter, and although nothing is restraining him, the frog will sit there and boil. Why? It appears that the frog’s internal apparatus

for sensing threats is geared only for sudden changes, not slow ones.

Doesn’t this sound a lot like what’s been happening to our society in general over the past several decades? It isn’t like we all just woke up this morning and things were a mess - it’s been a “sliding down the mountain” process. A little here, a little there, and boom, we’ve landed on our bum!!

I just read an article this morning which was a stunning example of boiling the frog. A man has been charged with raping a lady on a train outside Philadelphia. Here’s the “boil” part the assault, which continued for about 40 minutes, took place as fellow passengers watched through more than two dozen train stops!, cell phones in hand! We should all be outraged and disgusted by this - not one person called the police. Not one!

The lone call finally came from an off-duty transportation employee. What were all those passengers thinking just standing there? Is this just a daily occurrence

It’s just a mask.

It’s just two weeks.

It’s just non-essential businesses.

It’s just a few more weeks.

It’s just singing.

It’s just an app.

It’s just to let others know who you’re been in contact with.

It’s just a little chip.

It’s just a few more months.

It’s just an email account.

It’s just for protecting others from hate speech.

It’s just a few people.

It’s just so you can travel.

It’s just so you can vote.

So, I suppose the question of the day is - who will save the frogs? Do they even realize they’re being stewed?

The frog process is so gradual that people aren’t even aware of it at first. 2 Timothy 3:13 tells us, “Evil men will progress from bad to worse, deceived and deceiving, as they lead people further from the truth.”

It’s such a creeping process many aren’t aware they’re being boiled. Hard to believe! Compare the actions of those on the train to Proverbs 3:27: “Never walk away from someone who deserves help; your hand is God’s hand for that person.”

Too late - the train people had been boiled.

Recently, I read some online poetry - “Boiling the Frog” by Forrest Maready.

Forrest covers our last two years of boiling the frog in such an insightful way here’s an edited version of this truly clever poem.

I

n a long-winded and often exasperating discussion, the Hemet City Council finally came into the 21st Century tonight on the homeless situation that permeates the San Jacinto Valley. Following in the footsteps of neighboring San Jacinto, Hemet joined up with City Net, an organization dedicated to assisting the disenfranchised back into a working society. More on that later, but first the routine and mundane.

Coming out of the closed session, the City Manager stated no action was taken on two items and the council opened to the public. After the cursory prayer and pledge, public comments were accepted on items not on the agenda.

Sue Marklin spoke in favor of Valley Restart, which has expanded outreach to 75 persons per month. It was only temporary assistance to homeless families and something needs to be done to help them later on when their temporary assistance ends.

Jerry Ann Franklin exhibited excitement that the city is teaming up with City Net, which will soon be covering the entire valley.

Another gentleman, whose name we did not get, complained that our children are not being taught about money and the law.

Debra Scarcelli brought up a power outage in her park that ranged throughout the area on October 9th that blue out her DV player, all fuses and appliances throughout the neighborhood, including fuse boxes, etc. and that she personally sustained more

than $1000 in damages and that others sustained even more damages, some who simply did not have the money to correct them as she did. A contract with Edison, she said, brought nothing but denials stating that an independent tree trimming service was to blame and that she should go after them for recompense but did not name the tree trimming company.

She requested help from the city.

Mary Ann Duran complained that “the good old boys” supported Marc Searl for council seat four and inferred that his opponent Joe Males was being smeared. She closed by adding, “Why do we want the same old people on the council that were the cause of all the problems we have now.”

Mayor Meyer asked all to leave their numbers with the clerk and she or another council member would contact them and deal with their issue.

Councilman Lilienthal took care of proclamations endorsed by the Mayor and Council, i.e.: 1. Proclamation - That October 23-31 be declared Red Ribbon Week to concentrate on the pandemic of alcohol and drugs among our youth.

2. Proclamation - That October be declared Violence Awareness Month, pointing out that there has been an increase in domestic violence in the City of Hemet.

3. Proclamation - That a week of Fire Prevention be declared and that all citizens should have a plan in case fire breaks out in their home so that all can escape unharmed.

The consent calendar was approved (after two minor explanations) 4-0.

Discussed the overall Themes relevant to the Hemet City Council and Authorized the Mayor and Mayor Pro-Tem approve a letter to be sent to the Riverside County Board of Supervisors Regarding the Redistricting Process and Adopting new Supervisorial District Boundaries. They specified that it should be made plain to the Supervisors that Hemet is separate from San Jacinto, that there should be no bifurcation, and included in Hemet should be the following: The unincorporated area throughout the 92544 postal area to the East and South of the city limits.

Then came the issue at hand - whether to contract with City Net to assist with eliminating our

homeless situation. City Net offered two options. The council, after a lot of back and forth discussion with the representatives of City Net, decided on Option 2, which is as follows: Street Outreach and Engagement plus Emergency Shelter/ Bridge Housing: This includes the street outreach and engagement component from option one and consists of a significant investment in renting rooms for those wishing to be housed. The proposal consists of ten rooms for the duration of 82.29 weeks which will ensure that the city has room space for those wishing to be accommodated.

Ordering funding to be utilized.

Once a funding source is determined, the authorized Finance Director establishes a supplemental appropriation to support this program. Overall, the council seemed quite satisfied that City Net has a proven record of reducing homelessness with their programs and this program should begin in full force by December.

The total cost: $1,108,000 or approximately $63,279 per month.

City Net will be partnering with

the Hemet Police Department and other organizations involved with the homeless situation.

Although not part of the council meeting, the following is pertinent to this story.

Under the banner of Hemet Police Officers Association, the following item was put out on social media: Marc Searl for District 4 City Council “People behind the scene of his opponents’ campaign support defunding and disbanding The Hemet Police Department and contracting our police services with the county.”

I’ve warned all of you before, and here is our Hemet Police Officers Association telling you themselves - we do not need puppets backed by deep pockets in office.

The publication so incensed Mayor Karlee Meyer that she issued the following statement refuting such an outrageous statement: “My support for our Hemet Police Department is public record, but I will draw the line when lies are created to manipulate voters, even if it is a thin blue line. For the record, no sitting council member nor either candidate running for District 4 has said anything about “defunding or disbanding” our police department. You have my word as the Mayor of Hemet.

he reports of hateful and violent posts on Facebook started pouring in on the night of May 28 last year, soon after then-President Donald Trump sent a warning on social media that looters in Minneapolis would be shot.

It had been three days since Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin kneeled on the neck of George Floyd for more than eight minutes until the 46-yearold Black man lost consciousness, showing no signs of life. A video taken by a bystander had been viewed millions of times online.

Protests had taken over Minnesota’s largest city and would soon spread throughout cities across America.

But it wasn’t until after Trump posted about Floyd’s death that the reports of violence and hate speech increased “rapidly” on

Leaked Facebook documents provide a first-hand look at how Trump’s social media posts ignited more anger in an already deeply divided country that was eventually lit “on fire” with reports of hate speech and violence across the platform. Facebook’s own internal, automated controls, meant to catch posts that violate rules, predicted with almost 90% certainty that Trump’s message broke the tech company’s rules against inciting violence.

housands of people are challenging the vaccine mandates. For them the “get shot or get fired” ultimatum is a bridge too far. Southwest Airlines recently discovered that such pressure isn’t working when they had to cancel a lot of flights because they didn’t have staff. Locations with Lockdown Lefty Lunatics in charge are losing people. Over a thousand people a day are moving to the Free State of Florida where mandates are strongly discouraged. But federal courts are ruling in favor of mandates right and left.

Why? Welcome to the Supreme Court.

In 1905 (Jacobsen v. Massachusetts, 197 US 11) the Court ruled that the state could require citizens to get a smallpox vaccination. This case is being used as a blanket authority for every vaccine mandate to be approved. And as the Bard said, “Aye, there’s the rub.” If the term “vaccine” is all that’s considered, no one has a prayer in court.

But if we can pry a few layers off that onion, there is a clear way to show that Jacobsen is not a precedent that any lower court should consider.

Smallpox is a very contagious disease with up to 20% mortality.

It’s spread by contact, so an infected person can easily give someone else a deadly disease. This was a clear public health issue in 1904. At that time vaccination involved administering an orthopoxvirus that created powerful smallpox immunity without making the individual sick. Thus, the mandate was in fact a de minimus burden on the recipient’s freedom with a significant probability of preventing the illness of another person. This tells us where we must look.

COVID-19 is spread by aerosols, not contact. It is therefore not comparable to smallpox unless COVID-19 vaccinations in fact prevent the spread of COVID-19 from a vaccinated person to an unvaccinated person. But they do not and cannot. We now know that fully vaccinated and immune persons can be infected and exhale just as much active virus as persons ill with the disease. This sounds like nonsense, but has a very solid medical basis.

Because COVID-19 is spread by aerosol, infected aerosols are breathed in by nearby people, regardless of their immune status.

Those aerosols come in contact with pneumocytes, the structural cells of the alveoli (air sacs). The virus attaches to the ACE2 receptor and enters the cell where it multiplies. It is then released by the cell, mostly into the alveolus, where it is exhaled as a water vapor aerosol.

The individual’s immunity is not involved, since antibodies and killer T-cells live in the bloodstream on the other side of the alveolar basement membrane. Those antibodies and T-cells mop up viruses that the pneumocytes release across the basement membrane, preventing illness.

Let’s make this so simple even a federal judge can understand it. Smallpox spreads by contact.

Immunity to smallpox prevents illness, curtailing transmission.

COVID-19 spreads by aerosols.

Immunity to COVID-19 prevents illness, but does not reduce the probability of an immunized person transmitting the disease. In short, the fundamental rationale for Jacobsen does not apply to COVID-19.

The Left will cry that masks will stop the spread. But that’s not about vaccination! And they will bring out data showing that, in the lab, various masks reduce the spread of aerosols by 30%. Unfortunately for them, when we look at population data, lab results simply do not translate to the real world. Mask mandates have been proven to have zero effect on population-level transmission of COVID-19.

They may actually make the situation worse. And we cannot let a prosecutor bring forward data that N95s eliminate infection in

health-care workers. This is “exposure control,” where the individual protects himself. Jacobsen is about “source control,” where my immunity might protect you.

At this point one might suggest that the case has been won, but we can’t stop by proving that COVID-19 vaccination doesn’t work for the purpose in Jacobsen.

We must now proceed to the affirmative case that vaccination is bad.

Vaccination is a medical procedure that involves more risk than simply taking your temperature.

All three of the vaccines expose a person to the spike protein. Pfizer and Moderna use mRNA to get the body to make it, while Johnson & Johnson attaches it to a crippled adenovirus. This turns out to be a horrible mistake. The spike protein is the key viral part that causes the disease. Spontaneous abortions, myocarditis, and sudden death are just part of its effects. With thousands of reported deaths following the vaccine in a system that the CDC states only captures 1% of the data, a huge number of people have had incredibly bad effects from the shots.

Informed consent requires that a patient be informed of the risks, benefits, and alternatives of a medical treatment. Since the Despots of Disease claim that vaccines are “safe,” we can confidently say that they are lying. Informed consent is meaningless when we’re falsely informed. And in the same vein, the benefits are overstated. As we’ve seen, the idea that the Fauci shot stops disease transmission is blatantly false. It doesn’t even protect me that well. The push for rapid and perpetual “boosters” are a tacit admission that it doesn’t work very well at all.

Finally, the question of alternatives must be presented to the court. The Despots of Disease have firmly stated that the vaccines are the only way we can ever have a safe society. They have actively suppressed, by threats to medical licenses and hospital privileges, any suggestion that Hydroxychloroquine or Ivermectin might be of benefit in stamping out the illness. Public pronouncements about “horse dewormer” have been used to demean people who actually study the data. Fortunately for the 241 million people of Uttar Pradesh, India, they didn’t have to fight the U.S. government, and an $8 course of treatment eliminated the Delta variant with zero side effects.

Overcoming the Jacobsen precedent should be an exercise in simplicity. Jacobsen was forced to accept a vaccine that had proven ability to stop the transmission of a deadly disease in exchange for a de minimus medical therapy. The COVID vaccines do not and cannot prevent transmission of this airborne disease which has a mortality rate no worse than seasonal flu. And they are by no means de minimus. “…more people, according to VAERS, have died after getting the shot in four months during a single vaccination campaign than from all other vaccines combined over more than a decade and a half.” To conclude, we have excellent, inexpensive, non-toxic, and highly effective therapies that the Despots of Disease are suppressing.

In short, COVID-19 vaccines are in no way comparable to smallpox vaccines. Jacobsen should not be considered a legal precedent for COVID-19 vaccine mandates.

any of you have only read about the depression of the ‘30s and how it affected the working class. It was the era of “the assembly line.”

In 1936, General Motors was the largest privately owned manufacturing company in the world.

GM operated 69 auto plants in 35 cities throughout the United States. They also produced auto parts, refrigeration equipment, household appliances, airplanes, train engines, and power plants.

GM’s stockholders received over $200 million in dividend payments in 1936 and employed 172,000 hourly employees with an average of seventy-six cents an hour. The company was known to be an outrageous foe of any attempts to form labor unions.

On December 30, 1936, about 50 UAW assembly-line workers, angry over yet another attempt

by GM to weaken their union, sat down on the job and refused to work at GM’s Fisher Body Plant in Flint, Michigan, causing the entire assembly line to collapse.

Sit-down strikes soon ensued throughout other GM plants that shut down the world’s largest automobile factories.

Blood was spilled and the war for higher wages was on. Bottles,

stones and two-pound car door hinges flew through the air at policemen, followed by water from fire hoses manned by strikers on the roof of the plant. The police fell back, regrouped and made another attempt, eventually firing pistols into the picketers wounding more than a dozen people.

There was a stalemate.

Finally, President Roosevelt intervened, encouraging a compromise and the union organizers were permitted to continue their work without interference from the management. It was the opening salvo for thousands of workers to unionize. Henry Ford’s statement that “We’ll never recognize the United Auto Workers Union or any other union” fell on deaf ears ever after.

Woolworth’s girls also took to sitting down on the job and soon it became obvious that all of America’s labor force wanted a piece of the pie.

How does that have any meaning today, you ask? For the past year, the country’s laboring forces have been living a great deal on the dole, enjoying a life. They have had a chance to think and have decided they now want a bigger piece of the pie. Many millions have not gone back to work, which has slowed our economy, accounting for all the ships offshore waiting from labor to

Mega companies who take in billions of dollars annually have fought against profit-sharing for years. This is just the latest attempt and probably the most likely to have some success.

During the thirties, the movies were filled with the life of high society and the life-styles that existed for the haves. The “have nots” struck to get a share of that. Now they want a big slice of the pie.

And thus it goes.

Shots Fired in Hemet District 4 Upcoming Election ANN SMITH | CONTRIBUTED

f you have not yet voted in the Special Election for the City Council seat in District 4 (Males vs. Searl), you may want some facts before casting your essential vote. We have four council seats at this time and a 5th council member will change the balance of power.

It will be the difference between the “same ole same old” (Searl) and new blood (Males) taking bold steps to make the City of Hemet the kind of city we are proud of.

For anyone seriously considering a vote for Marc Searl, you should be aware of the following.

Public information, proof of Searl and his lack of ability or willingness to do the right thing. How many of you know who was on the city council when Searl was there, as Mayor no less? For starters, Robin Lowe who was cited by the Grand Jury for her conflict-of-interest activities between the defunct “Prime Of Life” (she was the executive director of this failed organization). Also on the city council during this period were Christie, Lowe, VanArsdale, McBride and Searl. As Mayor,

Searl didn’t do much to correct the ills of the city. If anything, he was part of the problem. It seems none of the council felt it was necessary to take any action against Lowe, even though she had been cited and it was felt, should be charged. Follow the link below for detailed information regarding the city’s very late decision to disassociate itself with Prime of Life. As a sidebar, note that Lowe sits on the Hemet Infrastructure Committee*.

Hemet resident Stacie Olson asked, “Why is Marc Searl running now, when he didn’t run for a second term when he was on council before? And what did he do in the four years he served to clean up our city and make it better? Considering the condition of our city, I don’t want any old blood on the council! I want fresh people like Joe Males to implement new ideas and new strategies! The older council members did nothing but run our city into the ground! We are long overdue for a fresh start!”

Hemet activist Pat Gregory, seen regularly at City Council meetings, states, “From 2006 to 2009 when Mr. Searl was on council Hemet had a huge deficit every year. I

strongly support our police, but Mr. Searl’s campaign is using emotionalism instead of fact. Do you really want someone who can’t run a fiscally sound city?”

As a side note, have a look at Searl supporters: Dave Brown, former Hemet Police Chief who didn’t exactly leave a legacy of improved public safety, Robb Webb whom while cleared of criminal charges in the death of a mentally disabled man, left a sour taste in the mouths of many residents, particularly when Hemet was forced spend some $400,000 to represent him (2017). When Webb was living in Murrieta when this incident took place.

Another endorsee is Eric McBride, who was on the city council when Robin Lowe was on council. Last but not least, Scott Brown mysteriously disappeared (resigned) due to complaints of his inability to effectively lead the Fire Department.

LETTERS TO THE EDITOR Dear Editor, While serving in the U.S. Marine Corps I came down with hepatitis. The doctors told me it would probably come back with a vengeance and it did.

I was diagnosed with hepatitis again in the middle 2000’s. I was treated with a medication not yet available to the general public. I made me a guinea pig and almost killed me. iIn 2013 I thought I was going to die and made my peace with God. I didn’t want my wife to suffer through a lot of financial difficulties so I filed for Chapter 7 in

bankruptcy to keep her from having to endure all the financial problems that would ensue. I lost almost everything.

In 2015, after applying for VA benefits I was sent to Oregon for a liver transplant which was a success and I’ve been doing well ever since.

It has come to my attentions that certain elements are using that bankruptcy against me in my campaign for District 4 on the Hemet City Council. C’mon man, you don’t have to hit below the belt to elect your candidate.

HHT Announces New Season of Tribute Mania EMILY RAND | HISTORIC HEMET THEATRE

T

he Historic Hemet Theatre has announced the schedule for the first season of Tribute Mania concerts for 2022. The theatre is returning to the format of three seasons per year, with 8 concerts per season.

The season opens with a Tribute to The Bee Gees on January 8th. This show was the first event cancelled in 2020, just before the start of the COVID shutdown.

Tickets for the 2020 show had sold out faster than any previous show, so fans should not wait to grab them for this return engagement.

In 2021, all but one show sold out before day of show

– some selling out more than a month early.

Nearly all shows this season are returns of shows that sold out in 2018 and 2019. New to HHT this season will be a Tribute to Prince, featuring Prince Again. The Tribute to Johnny Cash will feature Neil Morrow who performed here as part of the show, Cash, Killer, and the King.

all it California counterintuitive: Less of a frenzy in the marketplace has translated to more sales of single-family homes statewide.

That’s a key takeaway from the California Association of Realtors report on September sales, which showed a 6 percent hike in transactions from August –– the biggest month-tomonth increase in more than a year.

September’s reversal of a downward trend on sales –– ongoing since spring –– came as both prices and demand cooled in the wake of a frenzied summer.

Strong demand spurred by low-interest rates and pandemic-driven relocations had pushed prices up relentlessly for most of the year, dragging down availability and affordability to deliver a twin damper on sales.

Last month’s 6 percent statewide gain represented an annualized pace of 438,000 home sales closed in the state, CAR calculated, up from 415,000 in August.

The state’s median home price for September was $809,000, 2 percent lower than for August and 14 percent higher compared with a year earlier.

The slight dip last month was enough to bring some prospective buyers back off the sidelines, Dave Walsh, president of the CAR, said in a release.

“As we move into the off-homebuying season

California’s downward trend in home sales began in May, when CAR counted an annualized rate of

446,000 closings, a 3 percent month-to-month dip. The trend continued for the rest of the summer, largely because so many successive months of intense demand had exhausted the market’s available homes.

“It’s not that demand is cooling,” appraiser Jonathan Miller said in August.

Even with last month’s rise, statewide sales are down nearly 11 percent compared with a year ago, highlighting the intensity of the prior buying frenzy.

The statewide cooling trend isn’t hitting local markets evenly. The median price continued

to climb in Los Angeles County, from $830,000 in August to $886,000 last month, according to the report. September’s median marks a 13 percent increase from the same month in 2020, when L.A. County’s median sale price was $766,000.

Earlier this month, a separate CAR report fore-

cast a statewide cooling trend for 2022, predicting that nearly 417,000 existing single-family homes would sell next year and that the state’s median sale price would see only a moderate rise. CAR expects that the state’s median sale price will finish this year with a jump of 20 percent.

“However, after Trump’s post on May 28, situations really escalated across the country,” according to the memo, published on June 5 of last year.

The internal analysis shows a five-fold increase in violence reports on Facebook, while complaints of hate speech tripled in the days following Trump’s post. Reports of false news on the platform doubled.

On May 29, for example, Zuckerberg said the company looked closely to see if Trump’s words broke any of its policies and concluded that they did not. Zuckerberg also said he left the post up because it warned people of Trump’s plan to deploy troops.

“I know many people are upset that we’ve left the President’s posts up, but our position is that we should enable as much expression as possible unless it will cause imminent risk of specific harms or dangers spelled out in clear policies,” Zuckerberg wrote on his Facebook account the night of May 29, as protests erupted around the country.

Yet, Facebook’s own automated enforcement controls determined the post likely did break the rules.

“Our violence and incitement classifier was almost 90% certain that this (Trump) post violated Facebook’s ... policy,” the June 5 analysis reads.

That contradicts conversations Zuckerberg had with civil rights leaders last year to quell concerns that Trump’s post was a specific threat to Black people protesting Floyd’s death, said Rashad Robinson, the president of Color of Change, a civil rights advocacy group.

The group also spearheaded a boycott of Facebook in the weeks following Trump’s post.

“To be clear, I had a direct argument with Zuckerberg days after that post where he gaslit me and he specifically pushed back on any notion that this violated their rules,” Robinson said in an interview with the AP last week.

A Facebook spokesperson said that its internal controls do not always correctly predict when a post has violated rules and that human review, which was

done in the case of Trump’s post, is more accurate.

To curb the ex-president’s ability to stoke hateful reactions on its platform, Facebook employees suggested last year that the company limit reshares on similar posts that may violate Facebook’s rules in the future.

But Trump continued to use his Facebook account, which more than 32 million follow, to fire up his supporters throughout much of the remainder of his presidency. In the days leading up to a deadly siege in Washington on Jan. 6, Trump regularly promoted false claims that widespread voter fraud caused him to lose the White House, spurring hundreds of his fans to storm the U.S. Capitol and demand the results of a fair election be overturned.

It wasn’t until after the Capitol riot, and as Trump was on his way out of the White House, that Facebook pulled him off the platform in January, announcing his account would be suspended until at least 2023.

There’s a reason Facebook waited so long to take any action, said Jennifer Mercieca, a professor at Texas A&M University who closely studied the former president’s rhetoric.

“Facebook really benefited from Trump and Trump’s ability to draw attention and engagement through outrage,” Mercieca said. “They wanted Trump to keep going on.”

Inland Empire’s old Chinatowns Beyond Zuckerberg gone, almost forgotten KARA SWISHER | COLUMNIST

everal Inland Empire communities had Chinatown districts around the turn of the last century. Before you start picturing pagoda-like architecture, neon signs reading “Chop Suey” and bakeries selling moon cakes, think again.

These were usually frontier-type wooden buildings with some shops, a laundry and dwellings for men who worked in agriculture, in construction or as servants in private homes and hotels. Few if any women were allowed to immigrate.

The settlements, with a few dozen or a few hundred people, were in undesirable areas, often adjacent to railroad tracks. And even at that, oftentimes the city’s establishment was hostile. Rallies took place to denounce the Chinese for spreading disease — sound familiar? — or stealing jobs. By the 1920s, most of these settlements were gone, their residents dispersed.

I bring this up for a couple of reasons. One was that earlier this year, when I wrote about Riverside’s old Chinatown, and mentioned that several other cities had Chinatowns too, some of you wanted to know more.

The more timely reason is that Sunday was the 150th anniversary of the Chinatown Massacre in Los Angeles. On Oct. 24, 1871, a hundreds-strong mob attacked the city’s Chinese district, killing 19 men by shooting or hanging. It’s a shameful incident that was largely neglected or forgotten until recent years.

With that anniversary as a spur, let me give you the gist of each of our Chinatowns. Most of this is based on research I did for a 1998 feature story that I dug up over the summer. Often these settlements received only throwaway mentions in the local paper and their demise was not recorded.

In Alta Loma, a small settlement was located in the 1880s at what is now Amethyst Street and Archibald Avenue. The men worked in the San Gabriel Mountains digging water tunnels through the granite under the creek beds.

In Upland, a village at A Street and Campus Avenue near the Santa Fe railroad tracks housed about 100 people in 1910. “Quite a respectable village has sprung up in North Ontario’s new Chinatown,” the Ontario Report wrote that year.

“Some of the buildings are quite neat structures.” A fire broke out in 1914 but was extinguished.

In Claremont, Chinese men lived in modest houses on two small farms, one north of Arrow Highway bordering College Avenue, the other south of today’s Pilgrim Place retirement village.

In Pomona, Chinese lived in shacks east of Garey Avenue between First and Second streets.

by the Progress-Bulletin (much to our discredit), money was raised to build and operate a steam laundry to put small Chinese hand laundries out of business. It worked: By the 1890s most of the city’s Chinese residents had left.

In Cucamonga, nine fragile buildings of paper and wood on San Bernardino Road and Klusman Avenue were destroyed by fire in 1919. Surviving villagers were temporarily housed in a winery until new housing could be constructed on the same site — more on this in a moment.

In Redlands, a boarding house, laundry and residences stood in the area south of the railroad tracks and were identified on a 1908 fire insurance map as “China Town.”

Many of the 200 residents had left after an anti-Chinese riot in 1893.

Although all the buildings are gone, the short street is still named Oriental Avenue. New names are under discussion.

San Bernardino’s Chinatown on Third Street may have been the Inland Empire’s first Chinese settlement, but by the 1920s it was gone.

Street between Arrowhead Avenue and Sierra Way, where between 400 and 600 people lived in shacks and operated grocers, restaurants, mercantile shops and a gambling hall. Some farmed produce that they sold from wagons. Fires in the 1920s destroyed most of the buildings.

Lastly, let’s go back where I started with this: Riverside.

Its first Chinatown went up in 1878 on today’s Mission Inn Avenue east of the Stalder Building until an anti-Chinese campaign began. The second location was off an alley between University and Ninth streets. Pressure continued, fanned by the Riverside Press, and in 1885 a site farther from downtown was purchased at Brockton and Tequesquite avenues.

This third Chinatown lasted until modern times. It was occupied for its last three decades by only one man, George Wong, who died in 1974.

Today there is, of course, a large and growing Chinese American population in the Inland Empire, particularly in Chino Hills and Rancho Cucamonga. But there is no present-day Chinatown in any of our cities.

And those original Chinatowns cited above have been gone a century or more.

et’s just cut to the chase: Who’s going to replace Mark Zuckerberg as C.E.O. of Facebook?

Before you go, “Whoa there, Kara,” let me just say that the horse is already out of the barn, whether the famed entrepreneur knows it yet or not.

He is not going to go in quite the same way that we’re used to seeing leaders exit the stage — up and then out. Because of his controlling stock, Zuckerberg will continue to wield all the real power at Facebook for as long as he wants. But the era of his being the adored dear leader and cultural touchstone at the company is effectively over.

Facebook staff members used to be considered the most docile in Silicon Valley; no one ever leaked.

But the endless stream of internal employee communications contained in the many thousands of documents provided by the whistle-blower Frances Haugen makes clear that a number of rank-andfile Facebookers have had it. One wrote, “It’s not normal for a large number of people in the ‘make the site safe’ team to leave saying, ‘hey, we’re actively making the world worse FYI.’” Haugen has managed the rollout of the revelations as if it were the invasion of Normandy. The effort has been highly coordinated, from the big reveal in a Wall Street Journal series to her plain-spoken “60 Minutes” interview and the recent creation of a consortium of news organizations, which includes The New York Times, to examine the documents.

She has also projected moral clarity. Testifying before a Senate subcommittee and British Parliament, she said enough to be devastating but not so much that she tarnished her sincere and pristine image. Telling a Times columnist that she’s not relying on any organization’s financial support because she made some well-timed cryptocurrency investments is the chef ’s kiss of the whole affair.

But Haugen is not the point here.

She has shown us that the management of Facebook has been tonedeaf and uncaring about the harm that its own research showed its products were doing, despite ensuing pleas from concerned employees.

While past accusations that Facebook and Zuckerberg care about profits and growth over safety sometimes fell flat — Wall Street certainly hasn’t had a problem with the company — it’s a message that’s less easily ignored now. It comes at a moment when there’s uncertainty about the future of democracy.

Whether you are on the noisy right or left or just quietly miserable in the center, there is a sense that something is awry in this nation and this world and someone or something must be to blame.

It wouldn’t be fair to put the woes of humanity entirely on Facebook’s

KARA SWISHER. | Courtesy Photo. shoulders. But it is unquestionable that it is handing powerful tools to the obviously malevolent and not doing enough to mitigate the inevitable damage. That’s the parental equivalent of giving a knife to a toddler and hoping for the best.

“History will not judge us kindly,” wrote one employee about Facebook’s handling of the Jan. 6 attack on the Capitol.

And as the documents show, the company is not just negligent; it is actively making things worse. For example, it removed safeguards it put in place before the U.S. elections that limited misinformation on the platform. So Facebook is not the hey-we’re-just-a-platform player it likes to pretend it is.

Zuckerberg’s belligerent attitude during the social media giant’s earnings call yesterday suggests that he’s facing a new level of pressure. This would normally be the time for the patented apology that he rolled out whenever times got tough before. No longer. He and the company’s P.R. machine are whirring and clicking with indignation and bile. “My view is that what we’re seeing is a coordinated effort to selectively use the leaked documents to paint a false picture of our company,” Zuckerberg said.

Which brings us back to the C.E.O. job. According to numerous sources, Facebook will move to shift its corporate structure this week, creating a holding company with a benign name and Zuckerberg at the top. (Meta has been suggested, but it might end up being even more anodyne.) As I wrote last week, this is what Google did when it morphed into Alphabet.

Moving Zuckerberg out of harm’s way is perhaps the smartest strategy, since he has, like most founders, become the personification of the problem. We need time to forget his shortcomings (many) and rediscover his attributes (also many).

A new C.E.O. would run the flagship Facebook division and take all the incoming.

The best move would be to bring in someone who is not part of the suffocating inner circle that Zuckerberg has created over the past decade. This group is made up of people who are in constant agreement. They have bragged to me about their longevity and how they could finish one another’s sentenc-

Trial Set for Man Charged with Rape of 4 Minors, Including Own Daughter

A preliminary hearing was held here last Friday in Riverside County Superior Court for ****Y, who is accused of raping four minors, including his own daughter—the four alleged victims were interviewed about their experiences with the defendant.

The longest interview took place on Jan. 12, and the victim detailed her experiences with ****Y. She was 14 when her sexual relationship with the defendant, her own father, started.

An investigator said that the victim was attracted to her father because “he wasn’t in her life when she was a kid, so he wasn’t like a father figure to her.”

At the beginning of her interview, the victim “described how she had been sexually assaulted by a separate individual” at a young age in Mexico, and that this had severely impacted her.

She said that rape in Mexico, culturally, “is the victim’s fault.”

The investigator said the victim “proffered that she might have felt sexual curiosity [toward ****Y] as a result of the rape that happened in Mexico,” The defense pointed out that ****Y felt regret the morning after the first sexual experience, uttering, “What the hell did I do?”

The victim reassured ****Y by saying “If you like it, just don’t do nothing.”

On Friday, October 22, 2021, at 12:00 P.M. the Coachella Valley Violent Crime Gang Task Force conducted a probation check at a residence located in the 31000 block of Las Flores Way in Thousand Palms.

The rest of the prelim focused primarily on whether or not an element of force was present in this relationship.

During their first sexual encounter, the victim told ****Y to stop “because she was nervous and had never done it before.”

The defense argued this nervousness was “more indicative of a novel sexual act” than because she was afraid of ****Y. The defense said it was actually quite the contrary, and that according to the evidence “all their relations were consensual, and that she was initiating.”

During her interview, the victim stated, “I was the one who touched his arm and then we ended up kissing.”

The judge questioned whether the victim was able to express to ****Y whether or not she was comfortable “when he took it too

far,” given ****Y did not stop when she initially asked him to.

During her interview, when the victim asked ****Y about their relationship, he told her, “You have the kind of thing. You have the power.” The defense claimed ****Y gave her the ability to speak out about their relationship if she wanted to.

The person who I think is unlikely to take over is the current C.O.O., Sheryl Sandberg, who, after a stellar upward trajectory for most of her career, has also become tainted. As Zuckerberg’s longtime No. 2, she’s the Icarus of Facebook. Putting her in the main seat will not fix what’s broken at the company or signal to a now impatient line of regulators that Facebook is ready to change.
