an Jacinto Unified School District announces two changes to the administrative staff at Monte Vista Middle School, pending Board of Trustee approval expected March 10, 2020. Juan Penaloza will be the Principal replacing Jessica Miller, and David Sheiner will be the Dean of Students, filling a vacancy since the beginning of the school year.

SOBOBA BAND OF LUISEÑO INDIANS
Luiseño Village breaks ground MIKE HILES | CONTRIBUTED
I
n its first major project since opening the Soboba Casino Resort last year, the Soboba Band of Luiseño Indians broke ground on Feb. 27 for a retail center at the southwest corner of Main Street and the Ramona Expressway in San Jacinto. Luiseño Village will consist of about 10 businesses, anchored by a 7-11 convenience store and a multi-pump gas station. The center is located less than three miles south of the resort’s entrance.

A U.S. Army soldier reports to the hospital at Fort Riley, Kansas, complaining of cold-like symptoms. By noon, over 100 of his fellow soldiers had reported similar symptoms, marking what are believed to be the first cases in the influenza pandemic of 1918. The Spanish flu would eventually kill 675,000 Americans and up to 50 million people worldwide.
