Exclusive photos of “Flash Mob” hit on AM/PM Mini Market A MARK LENTINE | EDITOR

“Flash Mob,” a group of like (read: weak)-minded individuals who gather spontaneously, gathered in a group of approximately 20 people and raided an AM/ PM Mini Market at the corner of Stetson and Gilbert in Hemet. Rumors circulated that some days later the same group hit a Walgreens Drug store in San Jacinto. A call to the Riverside Sheriff ’s Office and to all the Walgreens’ in the area have dispelled those rumors. As has been seen in "spontaneous" attacks against certain political leaders such as Donald Trump, this was not a one-off, off-thecuff spontaneous event, but a well-coordinated, somewhat bizarre, staged attack. The Hemet-San Jacinto Chronicle thanks Eddie George, Laurie Cain and

scribed as a bizarre robbery cum performance art cum disorderly conduct (just to name a few of the possible

charges), the group walked into the AM/PM and began to steal items, eat food, put down a “beat box,” and

dance. Then they began to roam around the store as if they owned it. The would-be owners rummaged around the store proper, then on to the storage room, and then to the back, to the store’s safe. It appears that they were unsuccessful in the attempted break-in of the safe. The video can be seen on Hemet Eye News’ Facebook site. The video and photos revealed some interesting facts. First, the cashier seems to be more than compliant: she actually seems to be dancing with the robbers. And according to Hemet Eye News’ Eddie George, “That logo looked familiar and a couple of our viewers realized that they knew this guy and the he had, of all things, a studio…a music studio in San

EMPOWERING KIDS WITH A FUTURE

My City Youth Center builds character through community JAYME CASTRO | STAFF WRITER

here is a safe place for at-risk youth,. A place in Hemet where a kid can be a kid and gain a crucial part of their development: youth engagement in meaningful activities that build character, and help prepare a child for a fruitful life. There’s a place humbly and unassumingly tucked away, where, upon entering its doorway, you feel a sense of creative inspiration, and a sense of community. The place is called My City Youth Center (MCYC). “I’ve had the vision to see a place where kids could go. A safe place where they could go to learn, get creative, and have fun - and just be kids, says Executive Director, Dan Harris. The My City Youth Center, located at 145 N Tahquitz Ave, in Hemet, has been fostering the development of kids through their community-based, non-profit program, which offers after-school classes and activities that inspire and help direct disadvantaged youth. “These are children that don’t have a father, children that aren’t eating all their meals. These are children that are doing poorly in school; they’re at risk; they’re impoverished. MCYC helps youths build a lifetime foundation through classes that intertwine learning with

fun, and lots of love. Erika London, Community Relations, says, “Our goal is to create the reality that these kids can be good citizens . . . good community members, and attain good careers. It’s a strongly held belief at MCYC that it takes a community to sustain a community. The program receives help through the generosity of everyday folks who give their time through volunteer work and also provide donations that help the program feed their students. A teen parent program also helps provide teen moms with everything from baby supplies, to parenting classes. Fun is mandatory at MCYC. A quick glance at the schedule and you’ll see dance classes: hiphop, folk, tap and ballet;

various art exploration classes; robotics, reading and tutoring - there’s even a martial arts class and a skate park! All these activities help youth connect with themselves and with their peers . . . and with their community. In essence MCYC helps kids feel a part of something bigger than themselves, and it makes our world a better place. Every Tuesday from 8am to 11:30am the public is welcome to My City CafÊ at MCYC location for free coffee and donuts, and for raffles, auctions, and random acts of kindness. San Jacinto College’s School of Nursing and Allied Health hosted its 4th annual Health Occupations Discovery Camp for local high school students on Jan. 7 and 8, 2020, at the college’s Menifee Valley Campus. More than 200 high school students worked with about 60 MSJC nursing students in hands-on workshops that showcased careers in nursing and allied health. The two-day event was organized by the MSJC School of Nursing and Allied Health and the Inland Health Professions Coalition-Reach Out. “The camp was designed to inspire the next generation of healthcare professionals, said Dr. Peter Zografos, director of School of Nursing and Allied Health at MSJC. The students participated in activities that gave them a taste of careers in healthcare, including registered nurses, nursing assistants, emergency medical technicians, diagnostic medical sonography and other related careers. Mia Roberts, a senior at Paloma Valley High School in Menifee, is in the biomedical science program at the school. “It’s so neat to get the hands-on experience, she said Tuesday. “I was so excited to come here today. Christopher Alog, a Paloma Valley High senior, looks forward to a career in nursing. “My family had told me to consider nursing, so it’s always been in the back of my mind, said Alog, who is also in Paloma Valley High’s biomedical science program. “Today has been

n a two-week cruise around South East Asia, our venerable “Ocean Pearl” anchored offshore Pulau Sepa, a small ovalshaped coral cay of 4-1/2 hectares, with tropical vegetation. My husband Lloyd and I took their tenders to Pearl Cruise Line's private tropical island, which has nothing but sun, sand and sea. We couldn’t find Pulau Sepa in any guidebooks, as it's one of several hundred, that make up a national park, This island gem has a crystal-clear lagoon, surrounded by an encircling coral reef. The locals know that the big fish swim in the depths, outside of the coral reef, and have developed an exceptional way of casting their lines.

It seems that they build a simple kite from a dried leaf and a couple of sticks, attach their baited hooks and fly them up, far out to sea. From the tranquil lagoon, they watch the ascending kite, and when it dips, they reel in their dinner. We were warned of poisonous and deadly sea snakes, which are approximately three feet long, and have checkered pat-

terns. The black and yellow snake is the exceedingly venomous banded Krait. The sea around here also has sea urchins, with long sharp spines, three to twelve inches long, which can pierce through rubber flippers, and snap off upon making body contact. Upon stepping ashore, we were welcomed with a freshly picked coconut, to drink the refreshing milk. We noticed footholds on

the coconut trees, which makes it easier to climb up and get the coconuts. In this idyllic setting, we had excellent views of other islands, local sailboats, and crystal-clear waters lapping gently on beautiful shell-strewn beaches, in an emerald sea in a peaceful atmosphere. barely remembered, if at all, and a woman about whom she knew nothing. She says, “A situation with two adults trying to figure out how they’re going to get by on this earth and here is this child put into the brand new marriage. I spent the next thirteen years, of again, not knowing who I was, taking psychology classes to understand how I fit into all of that.” She will only say that her step-mother “did the best that she could with what she had to do with.” Those of us who know here in our valley believe she turned out just fine. She graduated high school in Oklahoma and at age 19 she moved back to the San Fernando Valley. “I was all odds and ends again, trying to find out what to do with the rest of my life, where I was going and who I would go with. “I married young and subsequently gave birth to two children. My husband was a good father, but he was an alcoholic. When the kids started acting out because of the environment that was created for them I just simply ended it, deciding to end the marriage. I knew it was time and I’m the kind of person who, when I’m done, I’m done. He later got sober, married a wonderful woman and made his children proud of him.” She found employment at Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory in Livermore, California. “Being a very serious administrator, I obtained a top security clearance. A young engineer with the company worked in the laser program as did I. One morning I came into work and in the lobby that gentleman was at a desk in the lobby talking to someone on the phone. I recognized him but didn’t immediately know why. He waved to me and I waved back, then I went on up to my office. I later remembered that I had seen him at a country dance class I had joined.” The following morning he showed up in the lobby about 7:45 and Lynn was there. “To acknowledge him, I asked ‘How long have you and your wife been country western dancers?’ He kind of sputtered something and I excused myself, because I needed to get to work.” Five minutes later her office phone rang. He said, “This is Bob Throckmorton and I was in the lobby. I’m not married. Will you go out with me Friday night?” “I said yes, and we’ve been together ever since. We were married in Judge Ron Hyde’s chambers in Pleasanton, California.” Bob and Lynn owned a Pacer Motor Home in Pleasanton. They’d become members of Cal Pacers and knew a good many Cal Pacer members. “We were returning from a visit in Yuma, Arizona and remembered we had met a couple from Hemet who were Pacers and had said if we were ever in Hemet to stop by and they’d take us to lunch. We were, we lunched at Home Town Buffet and the very next day we bought our home in Panorama Village where we still reside today.” What propelled her into volunteer work? “It probably has had a lot to do with my early days. There are other people who influence you but ultimately you get to define who you are. When we moved to Hemet we were retired and felt it was time to give forward to pay back. Bob immediately became involved with the new Hemet Library Foundation. We were both supporters of the new Library. You know, there are takers and givers on this earth. The takers always take and somehow or other there are those who always give.

“About that same time I was asked to become a member of the Panorama Village Board of Directors. Meanwhile we were still motor-homing about the country and everything seemed to fit in our lives, allowing us to travel. After I was off the board, I was sort of a thimbleweed. Thanks to the library we began to meet people who are the heart and soul of this community. I was invited to join the Assistance League, a wonderful organization. I was active with them for 17 years, which gave me the opportunity to meet more people who were heart and soul involved in this community.” While she was serving with the Assistance League, the Diamond Valley Arts Council was being formed. “A friend encouraged me to be a part of that group to get the Arts Community formed, and so I launched, head first into an exciting activity.” She recalls that during that time she sought opportunities where she could be creative in the community and is still a member of Diamond Valley Arts Council. “It was a point in my life where I had the opportunity to be creative of sit back and complain. I’m not a complainer, so you can see which way I went.” During those days at DVAC she met a man who has been a great influence in her life. “Andrew Kotyuk was young, his kids were young. He didn’t know me and I didn’t know him. I only knew he seemed like a young man who was headed in the right direction.” Andrew is a two-time mayor of San Jacinto and is currently running for the 42nd Assembly seat this year, “The thing about giving of your talent and time in our community is that you meet people who are like you. There is a niche in politics or church or in so many was where you develop extended families with community at heart.” Lynn and Andrew discussed photography, and the Hemet Art Association became another avenue that enticed Lynn. “I really enjoyed creating and if I could contribute through photography, I wanted to do that because it was also something I can do for me and at the same time contribute to others. “I began to enter pictures in competition. I’d never won an award at the Art Association. I’m still an amateur, but other artists inspired me. DVAC had the Festival of the Arts and I entered three off Acrylic photographs and someone actually bought one of my submissions. I was totally stunned. That inspired me even more to keep looking for what I could contribute in a photograph that would have the viewer understand what I was conveying. So that’s how I’ve decided to do that - FOR ME.” After 17 years of volunteering for others, she decided she wanted to play and chose playing with pictures as her vehicle. Adding it all up she says, “Life is a circle. You find what you are good at and what brings you joy and pleasure. I once read somewhere that if you’re going to do something with your life, be inspired. I think we often go back and pick up something we forgot as children. Now I have it all, my avocation, married to my best friend, have the best dog in the world. If I can’t have fun now I don’t want to do it.” Lynn Throckmorton’s life has always been about purpose. She seems to have found her own cloud with the silver lining and is bouncing around on it with all the joy the heavens will allow. I like her. I think you will too. Friends and fans of the comic subculture and entertainment arts went as far as dressing up as their favorite characters: there were Darth Vaders, Storm Troopers, Dragon Ball Z characters, Tomb Raiders and more - gallivanting around the event, talking with and supporting local vendors. Brandon Noel, of Destiny Comix, took the necessary steps to breathe life into his idea for the annual event. “Three years ago, I came to the library and asked them about putting on a comic book convention. I had to get approval from the library council, the city, and pitched a proposal.” It’s not Comic-Con, but Noel assures that Hemet is not joking around, in saying, “We have big names, legends of the comic world coming here to Hemet.” Vendors offered everything from movie posters and trading cards, to face painting, and of course, comics! Guests could attend discussions from big names in

with Carlos Nieto III, where guest received lessons on how to portray emotions in Anime-style drawing. Anybody that knows anything about comics knows the name Scott Shaw. Shaw, in case you didn’t know, is the Emmy award-winning animator of comics such as Simpsons, Sonic the Hedgehog and has also worked as a story-boarder for Jim Henson’s Muppet Babies, and other leaders in the industry. Shaw’s presentation showcased the evolution of his own story, the story of a meager beginning in cartooning. It portrayed his progress and perseverance from the esoteric underground comix to big name success. His advice was simple, “If you love it, do it every day.” Get Your Comics On is a great example of what your public library can do for you, mentions Senior Librarian, Kathye Caines. “This is a library-card event, we don’t want to charge people . . . just an example of all the many things you can get for free with your library card.” For more information on Destiny Comix, visit www. destinycomix.com, and for upcoming events at Hemet Public Library, visit https:// hemet.ent.sirsi.net/client/ en_US/default

I swam in the warm turquoise water, while keeping a careful eye out for the poisonous sea snakes. We noticed a profusion of coral reef formation, tropical fish, multi-colored fauna, and the unspoiled and varied marine life of the Java Sea. Our chefs and crew served us passengers a marvelous buffet and barbecue on the beach, while we were pleasantly entertained by local musicians and cultural dancing, some dancers being from Sumatra. The band played some Western music for us, and sang in their own language, and in our language. Palau Sepa also had an interesting Gift Shop on the beach. Lloyd and I enjoyed a pleasant day of swimming, snorkeling, and pure relaxation, on this island far from civilization. PHIL BRIGANDI'S TRIBUTE

Genealogy and The Family Tree RUSTY STRAIT | SENIOR WRITER

enealogy Reveals Where the Bodies are Buried. I once did a two year stint as an apprentice embalmer. My friends wondered why I would want such a ghoulish job. For one thing, it was during a recession and I had to eat and pay rent. Secondly, I have seen more comedy in a funeral home than ever on television, and that brings me to the subject at hand. Some time ago, I spent some time with a fellow who digs up dead bodies-over the internet, and he thinks it’s more interesting and fun than anything else in the world. No, he’s not a ghoul. Larry Bowles is one of the certified Genealogists in the country and he resides right here in Hemet. The things I learned from Bowles makes me wonder how many of my ancestors are peeping over my shoulder. I asked him to fill me in on genealogy and explain how it all works. I came away from that experience with an ear and tape recorder-full of stuff I never dreamed of, and probably many of you didn’t either. What is Genealogy and How Does it Work? “Actually, it is the history of a family tree that takes off on every branch into the present and past, multiplying directions as one digs into the ancestry that precedes us. “A professional Genealogist will tell you right off the bat, ‘I will do your research. I will do your family history, depending on what it is you want to know. The non-professional or even Ancestry.com can find a family tree, but the source of where the information comes is not documented.” Ancestry.com Larry explains what Ancestry.com can do for you. “They can tell you the various percentages of your ethnicity, which is good in and of itself, but that’s only part of the story. With adoptions, marriages and divorces, names change as do locations. Movement and name changes are not explained by DNA. They are only explained if one has a background in English, French, Spanish or other ethnicities. Ancestry simply does not give you history, merely percentages. It doesn’t help find people and, history after all, is conducted by people. Marriage, Birth, Adoption, Divorce and Name Changes In previous generations most women took their husbands' surnames when they tied the knot. Today women often maintain their maiden names and some men even adopt the name of their spouses. Also, with same gender marriages and adoptions to both husband and wife and same gender pairs, it is even more important to have documentation. Larry says, “Depending on who is doing the recording, names are misspelled. Even birth and marriage certificates sometimes have names spelled wrong. For instance, a man is named Glen. A document is recorded as Glenn. That makes a great difference when it comes to reconciling a mis-spelled name with the correct one." Grave Sites You would think that the tombstone or death certificate would always be accurate. Not true, says Mr. Doyle. “Just because you find something in the past doesn’t mean it is a true "find." It could have been

www.HSJChronicle.com

written up by an idiot. But if you can trace to the accurate documentation, you will be able to make note of the error and go from there. Cemetery records, property transfers, home ownership, old insurance policies, newspaper articles, anything that can be found in archives or even family bibles is useful. Some bibles are handed down from one generation to another. “One thing about grave photos: the person seeking information knows that where a person finally rests is a pretty good address as to where they are.” Amateurs and Scam Artists Amateurs abound, of course. Larry was an amateur in the beginning. “Only a certified professional Genealogist is qualified to do a true search in genealogy. The scam artists are out there and, as in many other businesses, they prey on the unsuspecting, most of whom are seniors. It is always best to get in touch with the American Professional Genealogists organization and verify a person’s qualifications. They have a record of all certified Genealogists. “There is no law that I know of that prevents someone from taking someone’s money for a “Family Tree” search, but I would like to mimic that old canard, “Buyer beware!” How do I Start if I Decide to do it for Myself? Most of us want to know about our heritage but don’t know where to start. That was easy for Larry. “Start. Search-Engine a name and take off from there. You are in for a long ride and I hope you enjoy that because searching can be time-consuming, but ever so much fun. It is like taking a holiday driving cross country to see how the rest of the world lives. Every click on the computer key can take you into place you never thought a relative of yours might ever have been. For instance your family goes back to West Virginia. There are 2,222,469 graves recorded there, which is just about the population of those above the ground in the Mountain State. It would surprise you how much data cemeteries can provide. For instance, you are looking for a deceased’s war record - through cemetery records and findagrave. com you’ll be able to get individual military records, including wars and service of a person. How Did Larry Begin his Genealogy Trip? “I was pretty much raised by grandparents and great grand-parents in California. One day I asked my grandparents about my family tree. I might as well have asked if it was possible to have dinner on the moon. They didn’t have a clue. Oh, I’d heard all the old tales about being part Indian and all that. Some of their stories were beyond belief. My grandparents could lie better than anybody I know. They had a great memory for things that never happened. That being what it was, I wanted to know more about where I came from. Thus began my own journey for the truth.” While majoring in history at Cal State Los Angeles, Larry discovered the large genealogy library in the Mormon Temple on Santa Monica Boulevard on the west side. He was hooked. “The gentleman who operated their library took an interest in me and I learned so much from him. He went on to be head librarian at the huge Mormon Library

any are the tributes to those who are wellknown in a community. Then the memory passes into the dust bins of history absorbed as are their remains...and they are lost to eternity. Not Phil Brigandi. When Phil passed away of a heart attack at age 60 on December 12, 2019, every county in Southern California felt as though it had been hit by a 9-point emotional earthquake. Phil was important to the history of Southern California, because he told and uncovered the history of California. Phil was beloved and respected and honored. His legacy has no scandals or embarrassment. Phil was the real deal. This past week the Hemet/San Jacinto Valley paid tribute to his life at the Diamond Valley Arts Council on Harvard Street in Hemet. There were tears and laughter, often mingled so that it was sometimes difficult to distinguish which were of sorrow and which were from some retold antic of his life...those things that made him different than others. For instance, his very close friend and co-conspirator in many adventures, Steve Lech, spoke of Phil's reluctance to become a 21st century maven. As Steve explained, “He simply refused to give up his dial up modem until there was no other choice. He tried Facebook once and found social media not to his liking. He was a real old-timer in so many ways, but he was always looking for new ways to explore and write about local history.” Phil was first and foremost an historian. A former Orange County archivist and local historian he did not relish what he called “rich, ritzy, coastal, snobbish stereotypes.” He was interested in facts and story before analyzing what he had written. One friend said of him, “He was an observer, and he observed what he observed. His primary goal wasn’t to pass judgment one way or the other.” Lech said, “Someone once declared that we all die 3 times. At first is our physical death. The second is when the last person who knew you dies, and the third is when anything we created is lost or

sional historians, if they chose, could put local historians like us out of business. He said, that they had little interest in local history and therein lay a niche for people like us. He believed that as long as there were local historians who were willing to do the work, to help others and encourage them along the way, then the local regions would be covered. Phil had little tolerance for historians who did half-hearted work or in his words “Those who check off the boxes for a political aim or for political correctness..” Phil wrote almost thirty books, seven of which were about our local community, i.e., Barnstorming the Desert, Borrego Beginnings, Temecula: At The Crossroads; 100 Years of Headline News; The Life of Randall Henderson; Garnett Holmes, California’s Pageant Master; Looking Back on the Ramona Pageant; Prayers , Presents, Gifts and Service (about the Hemet United Methodist Church and so forth.

Phil collaborated with Steve Lech to publish a compendium of Bill Jennings‘ (another beloved local writer and historian) writings entitled “On my side” which was published by the Hemet Museum in 2015. Just how and why did Phil become such an humble icon? For more than forty years he wrote about the Southern California Counties, becoming an historian just after graduating Orange High School when he joined the Orange Community Historical Society Board. At 23, he published his first book. Phil moved to Hemet and became the historian for the Ramona Pageant but later alternated his time between Hemet and Orange County. Phil loved the places and the people who were living or had lived. You can bet on one thing for sure, if you had attended his memorial in Hemet, hosted by the ever-available and able Lori Van Arsdale, you would certainly know that he was beloved in this Valley and through his books, personal contacts and explorations, his name will be revered here for generations. Phil always wondered who would replace him. “I replaced historians like Bill Jennings and numerous others. They are gone. Who is waiting in the wings to take over from me and Steve Lech? I’m sure there is someone out there. At least I hope so." That was Phil-always thinking about others and submerging himself in the background. You bet he will be missed...and remembered.

forgotten. For Phil Brigandi that will be a long, long time.” Phil was an author, historian and explorer, but he will long be remembered as a friend who wished to investigate and browse through the relics of local times and he shared them with anyone who was interested. Phil's admirers and followers are legion. Although a native of Orange, California one might say that our Valley kidnapped him and raised him as our own for as long as we could. Steve Lech related how he met and became so entwined with Phil: “Like many of the docents of the Mission Inn, I was assigned to write a research paper to add to the growing research in the library at the Mission Inn Foundation. My chosen topic was the "Ramona Myth," so I wrote to Phil who was curator at the Ramona Bowl and asked for information. He wrote me back and invited me to the museum to talk to him and see our collection. When I arrived at the museum and was greeted by someone I initially thought was too young to be out of high school, let alone having a great-sounding job like Curator of the Ramona Bowl Museum, I soon found out he was no late comer. I got my information but also an invitation. I mentioned to him that I wanted to see Juan Diego Flats. The following week we took off in his jeep and during the trip I listened as he told the story of how an event in the 1880's caught the attention of writer Helen Hunt Jackson which resulted in the Ramona tale and the Play that is now the most famous outdoor play in the country.” Phil believed profes-

CHARITY LIVE AUCTION

Over 60 million babies have been lost to abortion since 1973 . We're here to raise awareness to this terrible holocaust. But, it's not simply a matter of knowing, we want to make a symbol for all to see. On January 25, 2020, we are hosting a Rally & Walk For Life and creating a memorial "Cemetery of the Innocent". The cemetery of 3,000 crosses is a powerful visual representing the 3,000 innocent lives that are lost each day in the United States to abortion. We gather for a Rally at Gibbel Park at 10:00 am. There will be guest speakers to inspire and encourage us in our mission of saving innocent lives. Following the Rally, each walker picks

in Salt Lake City. They had all that microfilm and I started finding out things and pretty soon I knew more about my family than anybody else. It was like a walk back through history. He went to his grandmother and asked, “Where were our parents born. She shook her head and told me she’d never thought about it. Someone else without a clue. Larry’s First Paying Client “As I’ve said, I started out as an amateur, although I knew a lot more about Genealogy than your average amateur. I am somewhat of a linguist. I could speak Swedish, Norwegian, Spanish, Danish, and half dozen other languages. I went to high school in Mexico City and came back well versed in Spanish, so I’m somewhat a linguist." “One day a lady came to me who had some letters she wanted translated. I did so and found some truly interesting information about her father who had been killed in a duel. She was very old and I wasn’t sure how to or even

if I should tell her, but after thinking it over I decided she deserved to know. I finally told her that her father had come to a bad end, stabbed to death in a duel after a bar encounter at two in the morning. She then asked if I’d do her family history. Since I was going back and forth to the Mormon Library on Santa Monica Boulevard anyway,, I agreed. She said she would pay me for the work. “I said, ‘If you will pay for the films that I order and my transportation costs, we have a deal.’ I charged $1.65 an hour for my labor. I didn’t save the check, but I remember how much she paid me. $227.50. Film at that time cost $1.50. Today it is $8.25." “And by the way, the Mormon Church has stopped sending film to all their outlets. As of August 31 this year you cannot get film from Salt Lake City. Everything is going digital and on line. That includes wills and other personal documents. By the year 2020 everything In the Salt Lake City Library will be on line. It will still be free on their family search site.

Larry cited me an old anonymous poem that well have come out of my hillbilly background. It goes like this: "Suzie Lee done fell in love, and said she planned to marry joe. She was so happy about it all, so she told her pappy so. But pappy said, Suzie gall you’ll have to find another. I’d just as soon your ma don’t know, but Joe is your half-brother. So Suzie put aside her Joe and planned to marry Will. But after telling pappy this he said, There’s trouble still. You can’t marry Will, my gal, and please don’t tell your mother. Will and Joe and several more I know of is also your half brothers. But mama knew and said to her, Gal do what makes you happy. Marry Will or Marry Joe ‘cause you ain’t no kin to pappy." -Anon. Dem senator says he has 51 votes to restrain Trump on Iran MATTHEW DALY| AP NEWS

A

Democratic senator said Tuesday he has at least 51 votes to support a bipartisan resolution asserting that President Donald Trump must seek approval from Congress before engaging in further military action against Iran. Sen. Tim Kaine of Virginia said the Senate could vote as soon as next week on the measure, which is co-sponsored by two Republican senators and has support from at least two more Republicans. Republican Sens. Mike Lee of Utah and Rand Paul of Kentucky have co-sponsored the measure, and GOP Sens. Todd Young of Indiana and Susan Collins of Maine said Tuesday they will support it. “We now have a majority of colleagues, Democratic and Republican, who will stand strong for the principle that we should not be at war without a vote of Congress, and that’s a very positive thing, Kaine told reporters Tuesday. The bipartisan resolution “clearly states that America can always defend itself, against attack from Iran or any other country, Kaine said, “but we don’t think that this president — or any pres-

Kaine has long pushed for congressional action reasserting congressional power to declare war, but he said Tuesday he has received renewed support after the Trump administration killed Iran’s top general earlier this month. Tehran responded to the U.S. attack by launching missiles at two military bases in Iraq that house American troops. No serious casualties were reported. Democrats and Republicans alike criticized a

bating military action. “Our service members are willing to put politics aside for our national security, we need to do the same,” Young said. Kaine’s proposal “does not alter the president’s inherent authority as commander in chief to defend our nation and U.S. forces abroad,” Collins said, adding that it would allow the president to respond to emergencies created by aggression from any hostile nation, including Iran. The resolution “simply makes clear that only the legislative branch may declare war or commit

briefing last week by the Trump administration on the Jan. 3 drone strike that killed Iranian Gen. Qassem Soleimani. Republicans “were discouraged at the attitude that was being communicated to us that Congress is an annoyance” to the executive branch, Kaine said. The briefing by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and other officials gave lawmakers the impression that they “should be glad” to get “a few morsels of information five days after the attack, he said. Kaine said he has re-

moved, at Republicans’ request, language that targeted Trump. Instead the measure is a more general statement declaring that Congress has the sole power to declare war and directing the president to terminate use of military force against Iran or any part of its government without approval from Congress. Young said in a statement Tuesday that he opposed “a politically charged version” of Kaine’s war powers resolution, but supports revised language reasserting Congress’s constitutional role in de-

Trump admin weighs shifting billions more for border wall Southwest U.S. border to be part of its mission to protect the homeland, and that the Pentagon supports the DHS in that respect. Asked whether that meant supporting DHS financially, he said, “If that’s what it takes, we prepared to support.” House Appropriations Committee Chairwoman Nita M. Lowey and other lawmakers said the administration was planning to “steal” $7.2 billion in counternarcotics and military construction funding to pay for the wall. “Having failed to get his way in Congress, it appears President Trump is now once again forcing servicemembers and their families to pay for his wall by canceling even more vital military construction projects,” Lowey, of New York, and other Democratic lawmakers said in a statement. “He is choosing politics over their readiness and quality of life.”

Last week, officials touted the 100th mile (161st kilometer) of border wall to be built since Trump took office. Acting Secretary of Homeland Security Chad Wolf disputed the critics who say the new construction is only replacing old fencing. The new, 30-foot (9-meter) walls do replace other barriers, but those were shorter and easier to cross. Wolf said he’s confident the administration will build or start to build 400 to 450 miles (644 to 724 kilometers) by the end of the year. At a Pentagon news conference Tuesday, Defense Secretary Mark Esper was asked about the reports that the administration is considering diverting billions more in Defense Department funding to support wall construction this year. He declined to respond directly beyond saying the Pentagon considers the

he Trump administration is weighing whether to shift billions more in military funding to build the border wall after already moving more than $6 billion, prompting a fresh round of criticism from lawmakers. But senior administration officials cautioned that no final decisions have been made, and no official figures have been decided. The officials were not authorized to publicly discuss internal deliberations and spoke on condition of anonymity. The border wall is one of Trump’s signature issues — he’s been talking about building a “big beautiful wall” between the U.S. and Mexico since his early campaign days. Then, he was claiming he’d make Mexico pay for it. But American taxpayers are

paying instead — and wall funding has been a major source of conflict between Democratic lawmakers and Trump as they negotiate agency funding bills each year. Last year Trump was forced to settle for just $1.4 billion in wall funding following the longest government shutdown in history. But he issued a controversial declaration of a national emergency shortly afterward that allowed him to shift almost three times as much money from military construction accounts to wall building. The Supreme Court ruled this summer the funds could be used. In total, about $12 billion has been allocated for the wall. And billions more have been requested. Homeland Security officials, who manage border security, referred questions on the funding to the White House, which did not comment.

our armed forces to a sustained military conflict with Iran,” said Collins, one of the most vulnerable Republicans seeking reelection this year. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell and many other Republicans oppose the resolution, saying it would send the wrong message to U.S. allies. The Democratic-controlled House passed a separate war powers resolution last week. The House measure is not binding on the president and does not require his signature. If the Senate approves the Kaine measure, the House could take up the Senate resolution and send it to Trump. Two-thirds votes in the House and Senate would be needed to override an expected Trump veto. The White House said last week that the House proposal was unnecessary because the military actions it cites are already authorized by law, including the 2002 Authorization for Use of Military Force against Iraq. The proposal also could undermine the president’s ability to defend U.S. forces and interests in the region against ongoing threats from Iran and its proxies, the White House said.

...We will never forget. Republicans of Hemet-San Jacinto

THE POLITICAL NOTEBOOK From the Democrats of Hemet - San Jacinto The impeachment process of Donald Trump has been in the news since the House of Representatives officially began the process in early November. While items such as assassination, missiles hitting a U.S. Base in Iraq and the collateral damage from the assassination of a civilian airline being downed have pushed news of the impeachment process into fourth place, it will be coming back to the forefront when the Senate takes up the trial process. Understanding the constitution is vital to understanding the framework for how this process will proceed. Mitzi Carver of our local Democrats wrote the following as an explanation of why the impeachment process is necessary.

THE UNITED STATES CONSTITUTION: THE SUPREME LAW OF THE LAND By Mitzi Carver Secretary of the Democrats of Hemet-San Jacinto The government of the United States was created through the writing of our Constitution in 1787. In this document, our Founding Fathers set up our democratic form of government with a balance of power between three separate parts: Congress (legislative branch), the Courts (judicial branch), and the President (executive branch). The purpose of separating power between these three branches was to prevent our government by the people from falling under the rule of any one person--such as King George III of England was in 1776. Avoiding any form of a dictatorship was one of the highest goals set by the Founding Fathers at the Constitutional Convention. As a result, our Constitution is the supreme law of the land--not any one citizen or one group of citizens. To be sure our public servants work to serve the people of the United States, they all take an oath of office which requires the officials to uphold, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. This is their primary role as our public servants. This means these elected officials accept the separation of powers between the 3 branches of our democratic government and will work to maintain checks and balances on the actions of the other branches. This is exactly why impeachment procedures are included in the Constitution. Impeachment is a tool for the legislative branch to monitor and correct any abuse of power by an elected official. As Americans, we must support our Constitution above any political party or elected official in order to maintain the democratic government created through this amazing document, which is truly the Supreme Law of the Land. An additional point should be mentioned. The Constitution states that a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court will preside over the trial. While Chief Justice Roberts is more conservative than I would prefer he has demonstrated that he is vitally concerned with the integrity of the Court and will go to great lengths to protect it. I point this out because there is a high probably that the leader of the Senate, Mitch McConnell and Justice Roberts will be at odds over the issue of witnesses. From all appearances the Senate majority leader does not want witnesses. I think we all know that when a witness takes an oath before any court they swear to tell the truth and the whole truth and the whole truth will not come out without several first hands witnesses appearing before the Senate trial. I hope the Chief Justice understands that the integrity of our system of justice will be severely negatively impacted if the whole truth does not come out. He is the presiding officer of this trial and he can rule that witnesses need to appear. The Senate majority can call a vote on this issue but I doubt very many Republicans will vote to overrule the Chief Justice in an election year. At least I hope they will.

E

lecting President of the United States and the leaders of our government entrusted with the security, health and welfare of the population is probably the single most important behavior of any citizen of voting age, not to be taken lightly. In the midst of all the hype coming out of Washington and indeed all political circles, it behooves us to take the necessary time to objectively evaluate the candidates and their statements, who wish to be elected or reelected to political office. The following data provided by the Reality Check Team of the BBC News should partially assist in the required analysis. “Our economy is the envy of the world. Perhaps the greatest economy we’ve had in the history of our country” Donald Trump Claim: President Trump often says the US economy is on an historic high, perhaps the greatest it’s ever been. Speaking at the UN General Assembly this month, he reinforced those claims by talking of how his “pro-growth economic policies” had helped Americans with jobs and wages. Reality Check verdict: It’s true the economy has been doing well but there have been periods when it was even stronger. And the trade war with China, rising tensions in the Middle East and fears over the health of the global economy have unsettled markets recently, and led the US central bank, the Federal Reserve, to lower interest rates. “Some of the best economic numbers our country has ever experienced are happening right now,” President Trump tweeted earlier this month. What do the figures show? For 2019, the data shows a 3.1% growth for the first quarter, but this slowed to 2.1% in the second quarter (which ended in June). This is significantly less than the 5.5% achieved in the second quarter of 2014 during the Obama presidency. And if you go further back, there were times in the 1950s and 1960s when GDP growth was even higher. “If you choose to look at the health of the economy based on GDP, Mr. Trump’s claims are suspect when compared to the national economic boom of the post-War years,” says Megan Black, assistant professor of history at the London School of Economics. In his speech to the UN General Assembly, President Trump said unemployment was at its lowest for half a century. He also said that in the last three years, six million more Americans were now on the

employment roll. In August this year, the unemployment rate was 3.7%. Fifty years ago in September 1969, the unemployment rate was the same - 3.7%. But it did drop to 3.5% in November and December 1969 so that’s actually the lowest point for fifty years. As for the numbers in employment, it’s true that over six million more were recorded as employed in August 2019 compared with August 2016. Mr. Trump has also highlighted record low levels of unemployment amongst specific groups. “Last month, African American, Hispanic American and Asian American unemployment reached the lowest levels ever recorded,” he said. It’s correct that going by data from 1972 onwards, unemployment for African Americans was at a record low in August - at 5.5%. US official data for Hispanic workers goes back to 1973, and in August this year, unemployment was at 4.2% - that’s also the lowest recorded level. For Asian Americans, records only go back to 2003. These show the unemployment rate last month was 2.8% - the lowest ever recorded was actually in June this year when it was 2.1%. In all these groups, unemployment levels had been decreasing throughout the Obama years, after peaking around the time of the 2009 recession. President Trump also told the UN that “wages are rising, incomes are soaring.” According to the U. S. Bureau of Labor Statistics Average hourly earnings growth did continue throughout 2018 - a generally upward trend which began during President Obama’s administration. It reached 3.4% in February this year, but then began slowing and is now at 3.23%. In real terms after inflation is taken into account, wages increased by 1.5% between August 2018 and August 2019, according to official data. Household income has also been growing - but the rate of increase slowed in the last few years. In 2018, median household income was $63,179, which official data says is not statistically different from the previous year. This was reported to be the first year it had barely moved after three years of growth. The above information should to be carefully studied and compared with the personal experience of each individual voter and seen in the backdrop of many other intervening and influencing factors needed to make a final decision as to what candidate best represents all the citizens and best interests of the country.

ave you kept your New Years' resolutions going? I read somewhere that, statistically, we keep our resolutions for 30 days and only 8 percent of the population ever achieves their New Years resolutions! I’m curious what separates that 8 percent? I know my problem is too many resolutions and perhaps too lofty of goals to achieve in one year. I do consider myself an achiever, it’s just never what I resolve to do! As January comes to an end I still find myself reflecting on last year: it was a big one for me. I had so many firsts! My daughter started her first day of school, I started writing for the HSJ Chronicle, I started a venture with hosting afternoon teas and so many more "firsts.". It makes me very excited to see what this next year will bring! My guess is that it will be a slow start, but I have so many new exciting ideas and I can’t wait to see how they will come to fruition. I give to you a fabulous recipe for an angel food cake since the top 2 resolutions are to exercise more and loose weight, and I have resolved to do both within reason. I am a pastry chef after all... nobody trusts a skinny chef! Even so,I could stand to shed a few. So after I’m finished rollerblading pulling this beauty out of the oven for a fluffy low calorie not to sweet treat topped with some fresh fruit is the perfect reward for getting my heart rate up! This recipe comes from Taste of Home and is fried and true, light fluffy and Oh so delicious! My favorite topping is a combination of 1/2 a cup each of blueberries, raspberries and strawberries cooked down with a squeeze of lemon and vanilla and a 1/4 of sugar. Reduce down

It’s the kind of book which senior writer Rusty Strait could have written to a fare-the-well. And why not? Rusty Strait figures heavily in the book’s narrative. Rusty Strait is a professional journalist with almost 40 books to his credit and his credential speak for themselves. Most of those books deal with Hollywood as Strait was publicist for Jayne

Tantalizing questions abound in this book: ”Why wasn’t there any pill residue in Marilyn Monroe’s small intestine? Why no pill residue in her kidneys? She would have died long before the entire amount (of the pills) had completely digested past her stomach

hat does it mean to “grow up?” When does it happen? And, does everyone have the same experience? Neil Simon’s semi-autobiographical play, “Come Blow Your Horn” examines all of these questions through the lens of the Baker Family. It's the story of a young man's decision to leave the home of his parents for the bachelor pad of his older brother who leads a swinging '60s lifestyle.

In the story, there is Mr. Baker, who began working at age eleven and was married at twenty-one. he is currently sleeping and, when she elects to leave him, he falls apart in response. This juxtaposes Alan's hunger for companionship with Buddy's metamorphosis into a ladies' man himself. PLAY IN THE VALLEY

Play With Your Food presents "Andi in the Moment" Michael Tennant give us a Suspenseful Comedy that you cannot miss! PLAY WITH YOUR FOOD | CONTRIBUTED

M

ichael Tennant, a writer, actor, director and producer known for his educational musicals based on historical figures, brings us this time a play of suspense and comedy to be enjoyed along with delicious food at the famous dinner-theater " Play with your food," located in Hemet, CA. "Andi in the Moment" shows a struggling actress named Andi who has landed an audition for a lead role in a Broadway production. One might think a pushy agent, an annoying roommate, and a co-star she can’t stand would be enough for her to juggle, however, when Andi researches this character, she discovers every woman to play the role before her has gone missing. Now the clock is ticking. Every day is growing darker. Each hour could be her last. Our struggling actress “Andi” will be perform by Alysia Albeck, along with Laura Cherland as Carrie Benson (The Agent), Levi Warren Hand as The Playwright, Michael Tennant as The Actor and Alexandra Miller as Dash (The Room Mate). The Play is also wrote, directed and produced by Michael Tennant. With this interesting plot, who would want to miss the opportunity to play with their food in the middle of the suspense? 2020 Interior Design Trends on the Horizon STATEPOINT | CONTRIBUTED

T

he beginning of the new year is a natural time to think about refreshing the look of your home, and in 2020, “cozy” and “warm” are trending keywords for interior design, according to experts, with luxurious textiles, inviting color palettes, and warm mixed metals found across all design styles. While a maximalism approach is on the horizon, clean and modern design schemes continue to reign. “Use a minimalist approach, allowing patterned décor to add pops of color,”

advises Eliza Alkire, trend expert and product designer for Progress Lighting. “Accent this with hanging planters and potted greenery to enhance the character of any room with an organic look.” To make the most of your space this year, consider this design advice from Alkire and the experts at Progress Lighting: Materials, Shapes and Finishes While neutral color schemes are tried-and-true, in 2020, you’ll want to turn to an updated palette consisting of warm, earthen undertones. Choose lighting

finished in mixed metals to accent the neutral scheme while adding visual interest and depth. Recent years have seen lighting combine black chrome and gold finishes. Now, warm tones of natural brass, bronze and copper mixed with silver and black will be found across lighting designs, cabinet pulls and plumbing hardware. Move over, stainless steel! Just remember to keep the look uncluttered by not mixing more than two or three metals in one space. Geometric shapes are dominating design trends. Adding lighting in triangle,

Make sure to balance statement-making lighting with clean, classic patterns and colors on fur-

nishings and accessories. Create warmth with tactile elements. Luxurious, richly-textured fabrics like velvet, suede and leather work nicely with clean, contemporary interiors as well as rustic farmhouse spaces. Try

vibrantly-colored velvets furnishings, pillows and throws. Wallpaper is making a comeback: use it in small areas like powder room walls, or make a splash with a floral accent

Then the coroner’s office picked her body up at the mortuary 3 hours later.” “In theory we can stop right here and conclude, based solely on the above paragraph, that the autopsy was completely invalid and unable to confirm accurately any findings.” And with just these two paragraphs, one can see why the theory of suicide has been questioned since the day Monroe died: it holds very little weight. The authors also cast a jaundiced eye toward the oft-told lie of Monroe’s be-

ing suicidal (she wasn’t). But the book goes further than just casting aspersions on the “Official version” of Monroe’s death: it blatantly names those involved in her murder. Chapter 8 alone is worth the price of the book. Here are just two of this chapter’s revelations:

Howard Taubman, in his review for The New York Times, wrote that the play was "smoothly plotted and deftly written...Mr. Simon has served up a multitude of sprightly lines. Best of all, he has provided some explosively hilarious moments rooted in character." A curious fact is that Simon modeled the on-stage

parents on his own mother and father. Now, Ramona Hillside Players in Hemet, will hold open auditions for “Come Blow Your Horn,” this time Directed by Matt Riggle who is looking for the perfect faces and energy to give life to these interesting characters on stage. fixtures have mixed metal finishes or are designed in new takes on classic silhouettes, such as large lanterns and chandeliers done in linear shapes. Mountain style goes beyond a rustic, cabin look to take on a modern form with clean lines, neutral color palettes and uncluttered interiors. With open layouts and tall ceilings, sweeping

views command attention. Lighting is oversized, with airy, open designs meant to cast light without obstructing views from the plentiful windows in the space. For fans of farmhouse style, this look has taken a delightful turn, with fewer rustic details and more modern charm. Subtle hues go beyond a white and gray palette into the realm of soft greens

and blush pinks. Lighting is inspired by historical design with industrial details like working pulleys, but is combined with clean lines for a relaxed, casual vibe. lem conveying information he learned from the Kennedys to his London handler/controller. How do we know? Top-Secret documents reveal these findings!” • Why did a helicopter pick up Peter Lawford at his home (causing many problems, kicking up sand in neighboring pools) from a clandestine airport? We have it on good authority that OCID (A clandestine department within the LAPD which figures heavily in the Mon-

roe-was-murdered narrative) operatives picked up Robert Kennedy on August 4, 1962 (the day Monroe died) form the Santa Monica Airport according to Dan Stewart LAPD OCID around 1:30pm and took him to Marilyn’s. We also know a fixed-wing aircraft or military helicopter flew in to Santa Monica airport from Hollister airport. We have solid information that Robert Kennedy was able to fly from Hollister to Santa Monica in a fixed-wing aircraft in approximately one hour. Kennedy was at Mar-

ilyn’s and orchestrated the murder of Marilyn Monroe using Dr. Greenson and the two OCID operatives, Ray Cadena and George Arnold. I understand that Peter Lawford hid in the closet.” Again, the book is uneven and untidy. A professional writer like Rusty Strait could have taken the book’s explosive material and detonated it in a most orderly and devastating way, but, for those who love classic Hollywood, Marilyn Monroe…or just a good, true unsolved mystery…the book is more than incendiary enough.

Mountain Pass League Soccer Standings Lady-Bulldogs appear to be the team to beat this season KYLE HEADLEE | STAFF WRITER

H

igh school soccer is in mid-season and league play just started for both boys and girls league. Let’s take a look at the current standings to see how the season is playing out thus far. In the boy’s division, San Jacinto high school is on top with a 2-0 record in the league. They have an overall record of 8-2-2 and have looked strong against their opponents. They have been playing great offense and defense this season scoring 27 goals this season so far. Their defense has also been impressive only allowing 12 goals being scored all season. If they can keep up this dominance they will surely make a deep run in the playoffs. Tahquitz is hanging on in second place. They have 1 win in the league and a tie. Their overall record is 6-54 and they have more goals scored against them then scored for them. Tahquitz is holding on to this position right now but everyone else is right behind them in striking distance to take their spot. Beaumont is in third place with 1 win and 1 loss. The three remaining schools Citrus Hills, West Valley, and Hemet are all tied for fourth, fifth, and sixth place with 0 wins, 1 loss, and 1 tie. The three of them have all struggled to score goals this season and need to find a solid striker who can put the ball in the net. Things appear to be a little closer in the girl’s division. However, when you take a deeper look you will realize they aren’t. Tahquitz and Hemet are tied for first place with 2-0 records. Tahquitz has an overall 2-7-1 record on the season. They

HEMET HIGH: Soccer season getting underway. | Photo by Inland Empire Sports Connection have only scored 11 goals this year and 7 of them came in their last two games. Tahquitz is enjoying this spot for now but they are sharing it with the giants of the league. The Lady-Dogs are having a magical season and much of it is thanks to the “Fab-5” a group of five girls that are all freshmen and have very impressive soccer resumes. They have dominated the club scene in the last few years all around the country and now they are taking their talents to high school. Thanks to these girls Hemet has an 11-3-1 overall record (2-0 in the league) they have outscored their opponents 65 goals

to 14. It seems the only school that poses a threat to Hemet would be San Jacinto. The Tigers have a 1-01 record in league play and an 9-2 record overall. They have scored 46 goals to their opponents 18 and have the firepower to compete with Hemet. Beaumont is in third place with 0-1-1 record and West Valley is tied with Citrus Hill with an 0-2 record. Citrus Hill really shouldn’t be that low: they have a 6-6-4 overall record and have outscored their opponents 28 goals to 18. Expect them to turn things around as the season goes on.

Boys Basketball Standings Who is King of the Court in the Mountain Pass League KYLE HEADLEE | STAFF WRITER

T

he first week of league play is over. Let’s take a look at how the games went and who is sitting on top of the division currently. The West Valley Mustangs have been somewhat of a disappointment after an electric start. In their first league game, they fell to Tahquitz. This game was supposed to be West Valley’s to win as, before this, Tahquitz only had one win. Unfortunately West Valley came out flat in the second half and Tahquitz was able to steal the lead. West Valley would do their best to come back but their efforts would be in vain. Tahquitz would beat them 70-65. Two days later the Mustangs traveled to San Jacinto high school to play against the Tigers. West Valley wasn’t prepared for San Jacinto’s Jorden Hudson to have the game of his life. It didn’t matter what West Valley did they couldn’t keep up with Hudson who finished the game with 22 points and was 7 for 7 from the 3-point line. West Valley fell in this matchup 6479 and now they are 0-2 in the league. After beating West Valley, Tahquitz traveled to play Citrus Hill. It would be tough for Tahquitz to match Citrus Hill’s pace of play in that game and they would fall to the Hawks 83-40. Tahquitz is now 1-1 in the league. In their second game of league play, San Jacinto journeyed up the hill to play Beaumont. Beaumont controlled the first four quarters of the game leading San Jacinto by 10 points in the beginning of the fourth quarter. San Jacinto would have a huge quarter, scoring 22 points. Antoine Sullivan hit a last-second deep three-point shot to force the game to go over time. Neither

WEST VALLEY: Joshua Edwards pre-game stretch. | Photo by Inland Empire Sports Connection. team would deal the final dagger though. The game would eventually go to a second overtime where Beaumont would outscore San Jacinto and take the lead. The game finished with a score of 72-76 in favor of Beaumont. The Tigers are in the middle of the pack with a 1-1 record in the league. Perhaps Hemet had the toughest schedule to start out the league season. They had to play back to back games against Beaumont and Citrus Hill. The two top dogs of the league. Hemet would give both schools a run for their money. Playing aggressively and with great energy. Even though they would go on to lose both games. The final score of the Citrus Hill game was 65-53 and the final score of the Beaumont game was 58-43. Hemet now has a 0-2 league record. The current Mountain Pass League boys basketball standings are 1.Citrus Hill 2.Beaumont 3.San Jacinto 4.Tahquitz 5.Hemet 6.West Valley.

GIRLS BASKETBALL UPDATE

Who are the Queens of the Mountain Pass League? KYLE HEADLEE | STAFF WRITER

I

n the girl’s Mountain Pass League Division Hemet High is sitting on top with an 2-0 record, with two decisive victories over Citrus Hill and Beaumont. The Hemet Bulldogs have built a team that focuses on defense. They pride themselves on forcing teams into low-scoring games and in league play it seems to be working well so far. The Lady-Dogs held both Citrus Hill and Beaumont to 29 points in their matchups. If the Bulldogs keep playing like that they will certainly be in the mix for the league championship. Right now the Bulldogs have scored the most overall

points in the league and they are knocking on the 1,000 point door. They are sitting with 945 points scored. The Tahquitz Titans are currently in second place in the league. These girls have been playing their hearts out. Even though their overall record is 4-10, their league record is 2-0 with wins over West Valley and Citrus Hill. Their next two games against Beaumont and Hemet will be real tests for them to see where they stand amongst the competition in the division. The team is being led by Charleen Garnett and her scoring consistency. She is one of the better pure shooters in the league and the league’s fourth-leading

scorer. Right now Garnett is averaging 50% from the field. She will look to continue her streak into the coming weeks before playoffs start. Beaumont is struggling a little bit right now, even though they have two of the top five leading scorers in the league on their team. They have a 1-1 record in the league. They started out with a win against San Jacinto, but lost to Hemet. The Cougars have shown inconsistently at times this season and seem to play their best when their leading lady Jada Long has the ball. When Jada Long is hitting her shots and running a “Pick n Roll” concept with her low post threat Jana Roman, the team is

hard to stop. Long is the leading scorer of the league at the moment averaging 16 points per game and Jana Roman is averaging 11 points per game. The two of them are a force when in sync and the Cougars coach needs to get them working on the same page as the season continues. Even though San Jacinto lost to Beaumont they turned around and beat West Valley. San Jacinto is in the middle of the pack right now but their main lady Jayme Mejia has looked really dominate times this season. She is the second-highest leading scorer averaging 11.8 points per game. Her highest scoring game this season was against Jurupa Valley where she put in

20 points. Mejia is shooting at 62% at the moment and playing really great basketball. Citrus Hill’s Kealani Waters has been playing amazing basketball. Averaging 11.2 points per game and trying everything she can to keep her team in it. Unfortunately, Citrus Hill is struggling to click as a unit. They have an 0-2 record in the league and it hasn’t really been close. West Valley isn’t in a much better spot, they started off looking promising but have been flat in the league play part of the season. West Valley also has a 0-2 record, but one of these teams will get a win in their next match up as they are set to face each other.

Personal de The Associ-

EEUU expulsa a estudiantes militares saudíes ERIC TUCKER|AP

Florida, matando a tres marineros estadounidenses e hiriendo a otras ocho personas.
