THE ORB

An orb is the cylindrical object usually at the top of a sceptre.

Sceptre (Yearbook) The sceptre is the object commonly held by kings or queens.

As a newsoom, we pride ourselves on informing the student body on events and happenings within our school and community.

Furthermore, we strive to recognize student diversity and accomplishments that make our school unique. As a staff, we are excited to keep the student body informed during the upcoming school year.

The three staffs that make up Student Media include students enrolled in the Broadcast, Newsroom and Sports Broadcasting courses.

We strive to use our platforms (HSENews.com, yearbook and newspaper, as well as daily broadcasts and podcasts) to better connect everyone here at HSE.

My advice to incoming freshmen is to get involved... get connected…to something. We have amazing clubs, performing arts groups, academic teams, and athletics. Find a group that is interesting to you and become a part of it!

What advice will you give incoming freshman coming to HSE?

What are you looking forward to this year?

In this next year, I am looking forward to having all of our students back in the building!

Describe what you hope next year will look like in one word.

Consistent. My hope is that we are able to maintain a current schedule and a consistent approach to instruction. It’s been extremely challenging for our teachers to manage the inperson and virtual students at the same time.

Consistency is a process. It takes time and we are all worth the wait.

I love this question. When I taught middle school, I would say that middle school students make me laugh. High school students also make me laugh but they also are smart, driven, clever and focused. They are my glimpse into the future and that future looks so bright!

What’s your favorite part of being principal?

My absolute favorite part of being a principal is connecting with students and families.

Let’s face it, we have amazing kids at Southeastern High School and I love getting to know them!

WHAT IS HIGH SCHOOL? A HIGH SCHOOL STUDENT’S PERSPECTIVE Although only four quick years, high school is often a major defining moment in a person’s life. No matter life’s path, your high school experiences and memories will forever follow.

As this school year quickly approaches and more students enter the building without knowing what these four years can offer, the Student Media staffs have made it our job to prioritize you, an HSE student, as we capture the memories that will make you into the person you will be as you walk across the stage at graduation.

As a student at HSE, your opportunities are endless. Whether it’s a class, club or sport, HSE has something for everyone. And the cool thing is, you might end up doing something you had never thought of. High school is a time to try new things and get involved, because each thing you do leads up to who you are when you leave. It’s just up to you to decide how you want to do that.

It is impossible to think about high school without also thinking about the social aspect that comes along with it. Whether it’s chanting in the student section or going to your first Homecoming dance, these events will stick with you as you look back on your time in high school. HSE TIMELINE 1964: 2003:

HSEHS opens the freshman campus, which later becomes Fishers High School

2006:

HSE splits into two high schools, thus creating Fishers High School

2015:

CCA is added to HSE, adding a coffee station, an office, a cafeteria, and new classrooms

HSE is established as a high school

2004:

HSE named a Blue Ribbon School, which is given to the top 4% of high schools nationwide

2012:

Former HSJH becomes the freshman center while CCA is being built

2020:

Current principal, Jamie Ulmer, joins HSE
