ARE THE PSAT AND SAT WORTH TAKING?
FEATURES
Yes. For freshmen and sophomores, taking the PSAT is a valuable opportunity that helps students to prepare for the SAT junior year. The PSAT has a remarkably similar format and difficulty to the SAT. For many, this can be a great stress reliever. Junior year PSAT scores can qualify students to be National Merit Scholars, which then get access to scholarships and other resources if you plan to attend college. While we are required to take the SAT before graduating, but doing well on it also has benefits beyond high school. Some schools require an SAT test score when applying to colleges. While about 75 percent of schools have gone test-optional, including a score can help to demonstrate your academic abilities to admissions counselors who are sifting through thousands of applications with similar information about students. A good score – generally 1100 or higher out of 1600 – can put an application ahead of others in getting direct admission. Students going into the workforce or an apprenticeship, boosting your resume with a good SAT score can be advantageous as well. Overall, good PSAT and SAT scores can be great assets for any student’s future despite taking so much time and adding so much stress. and Paityn O’Neill.

How did you come up with the name INHUMANE?
What inspired you to have your own clothing brand? Through skateboarding, my style slowly changed and I started to appreciate the art of fashion more and more. Instead of wanting to keep buying more clothes, I was more interested in making my own. That’s when I started coming up with ideas and sketches of different clothes I wanted to make and took it [my clothing brand] seriously.

What were some hardships that you went through when starting your small business?
The biggest one was learning how to screen print. I was super motivated and excited to dive into it but when I got everything in hand and tried preparing my first silk screen for some t-shirts, I failed miserably. It got very irritating but once I finally got some tees printed, all that motivation came back and it was 100 percent worth all the struggles because I learned so much from it.
What do you want to accomplish with your business?
A household name of HSE, Sydney Parish was a starting girls basketball player who later participated in the women’s NCAA tournament at Oregon. She credits HSE for her success, stating, “Hamilton Southeastern, you realize, is a great school district and sets you up for success.” Parish has learned to cherish the memories she had made at HSE, Oregon, and now Indiana University. She advises students to make lots of memories during high school and to, “take it all in, make relationships, talk to staff -you only have those four years.” Story by Tatum Keaffaber.
I want INHUMANE to be more than just a clothing brand but instead a way to expressively shed light on inhumane events or injustices. [It’s] a way to step back and see the world we live in through a different perspective while admiring the art of fashion. I’m not in this necessarily for the money, I’m just doing what I love and I know the money will eventually follow.
I was in Mr. Crull’s entrepreneurship class and our final project was to make a business plan for a business we [wanted to] create. I came across an advertisement talking about something inhumane that was going on. I was intrigued by that word because my problem for my business was about fast fashion companies are contributing an immense amount of pollution.

OTHER COMBINATION HEAD-TO-HEADS
For the past few years, many people have been combining foods together that nobody would expect. Who would expect pineapples on pizza? It turns out this combination is very common on the west coast and was concocted in Canada according to the British Broadcasting Corporation. BBC also states that a person named Sam Panopoulos created this unique pizza combination in 1962 and sold it at his pizza shop in Ontario. People found this concept interesting, which led to this style of pizza being sold throughout Canada. This combination then got introduced to the United States and Italy and has been popular ever since. In Hamilton Southeastern High School, according to an Instagram poll posted on @ hsenews, 31% of students believe that pineapple should be on pizza and 69% of students believe that pineapples do not belong on pizza. “Pineapple pizza is really good,” said senior Priyanka Paradkar. “It’s the perfect amount of sweet and savory flavors, but people judge the argumenttryingbeforecombinationevenit.”Anotherfoodis

Trust in the United States is on the decline. In a poll taken by the Pew Research Center in 2019, 75% of those polled believed that Americans’ trust in the federal government is declining. 64% say that Americans’ trust in each other is declining. What is the reason for this?Trust is built on characteristics such as competence, honesty and benevolence. When leaders in institutions such as the federal government, public education, law enforcement, healthcare professionals and first responders do not display these characteristics, the public is less trusting in them. Ethical behaviors in these areas do incite higher levels of trust in the public, however the same adults polled cited the government’s performance as indicative of the decline.Distrust in American institutions has been a common theme since the days of the American Revolution.
“I trust establishments less because of my race,” senior Annie Bonnett said. “I don’t feel represented in most if not all of the aforementioned establishments and there is a long history of people like me, as well as people from other groups, being neglected and mistreated.”
In 2020, Pew Research surveyed to find that Americans had overall increased confidence in the medical system, public schools, and organized religion as a result of the Covid 19 pandemic. Confidence was lower following the initial outbreak, but the rollout of the vaccine and booster shots increased the average. Contrastingly, law enforcement approval ratings reached a new low following the Black Lives Matter Protests.ANewYork Times report found that around 70 people in the past decade, ranging in ages from 19 to 65, had died in law enforcement custody after saying the same 3 words: ‘I can’t breathe’. The lack of trust in individual institutions has detrimental effects on our country as a whole. Research supports that lower levels of trust impact a country’s economic growth. Economist Alex Tabarrok describes this pattern as a “distrust trap.”

In the case of Roe v. Wade, Norma McCorvey was given the pseudonym Jane Roe to conceal her identity as the plaintiff. McCorvey questioned the constitutionality of Texas’ state law banning abortions, arguing that it violated her right to personal privacy. The case was argued at the US District Court for the Northern District of Texas and decided by the Supreme Court under Chief Justice Warren Burger on January 22, 1973. The case was considered a landmark Supreme Court case that defined a social issue since it had personal implications for women and girls throughout the United“RegardingStates. the opinions of individuals siding with either the ‘Pro-life’ or ‘Pro-choice’ movement, I believe it has unfortunately become a political debate, dividing the country,” said senior Gabby Paredes.

The recent ruling renewed conversation about the scope and legality of abortion in America. Both cases have impacted persons of all races, genders, beliefs and viewpoints. This topic will continue to evolve for decades and generations to come as the polarization of societal issues remains timeless.

Abortions will also be permitted in instances of long-term health and when the life of the mother are at risk, or fatal fetal abnormalities occur.

Athletes sweat and train their hardest to win this sought-after game that shapes the entire mentality of the season. During this day-long battle, the men drunkenly stumbled across the train tracks, leaving their clothes saturated in mud and dirt. From a drunken bar fight in 1881, to muddy socks because of the altercation, the name stuck around but found a new meaning in the city. Mudsock is now known as the duel between two competing schools known as Fishers and Hamilton Southeastern.

ATHLETE OF THE ISSUE: WILL IRISHATHLETE

“I’ve learned to encourage my teammates even when I can’t be on the field playing with them,” says Irish. “I know I’ll get playing time soon and appreciate it even more.”
Focused on the play, junior William Irish recovers from his most recent sports related injury. In July 2019, Irish tore his anterior cruciate ligament for the first time, right before his junior high football season began. Undergoing his first major surgery right before the season was very tough. Working resiliently, Irish was ready for his first high school sport to begin until tragedy struck yet again, Irish ended up with yet another torn ACL. Since then, he has undergone both surgeries and his ACL was healed. All was looking up until another unfortunate accident gave him some more sideline time. Irish broke his hand during practice before his first varsity season as a junior. This accident only cost him a couple games but taught him how a safe recovery is more important than playing hurt. These incidents have not only taught Irish how to prep for surgeries but also how to maintain good spirits, making him tougher than before.

Not everyone in Indiana likes racing or is an avid enthusiast, but chances are forms of motorsport racing sound familiar. One of Indiana’s biggest attractions is its 2.5 mile, 200 lap, oval course race, the Indianapolis 500. While IndyCar is widely known and the Indy500 is one of the largest in IndyCar’s lineup, Formula 1 is the largest nationally recognized motorsports league. With a limited number of spots on the grid, how does one get into such a difficult, and not to mention costly, sport?
Flowracers states, “However, in total from karting all the way up to Formula 1, you are looking at spending around $10 million.” The last tier is the amount of time you put into competing at a professional racing level. Professional racing is a time commitment that exceeds a standard 5-day work week and often requires traveling to different tracks and races.
Now that we have learned the different basic requirements to becoming a driver let’s discuss the how. First a driver is required to obtain a special racing license called the Super License, which allows them to attend academies. After their academy, sports car racers join karting which is where the skills of racing are learned. This practical environment allows them to fine-tune their turns, brakes, accelerations, and more. After that, drivers can climb the ranks from Formula 3 to the final goal of Formula 1.
which can be harder than driving itself. Drivers can find more adversity in money gathering to fund driving than on the track itself.

According to Flowracers.com, there are four categories one must acquire to start their Formula 1 journey. The first tier on their list is talent and the natural ability that a driver must possess if they wish to make it to the top. Understandably, a skillful driver tops the rest of the competitors to ensure that spot in the limited spots available.Another reality of racing is that it is an exhausting sport. This leads into the second point that racing is physically demanding, especially while needing to handle gravitational forces pushing against a driver. The next tier that was touched upon was cost. Financially supporting a driving career is arguably one of the most difficult aspects of driving, as it doesn’t involve driving skill. Instead, drivers compete for sponsorships to continue racing,
