On June 28, 2021, Governor Newsom signed into law AB832 which modifies some of the rules of the State-funded rental assistance program and extends the eviction moratorium through September 30, 2021. The City of Fremont is anticipated to receive an additional $7.7 million in State funding for rental and utility assistance. For eligibility rules and to apply online, visit: https://fremont.gov/keepfremonthoused Additionally, the Keep Fremont Housed staff is holding Drop-In Office Hours at the Fremont Main Library on Tuesdays from 1—3pm starting August 3 (except on 9.14.21). Meet our staff and apply in person. No appointment is necessary. Look for our table in the lobby of the Fremont Main Library located at 2400 Stevenson Blvd. We wish to thank our non-profit partners Afghan Coalition, Community Resources for Independent Living (CRIL), East Bay Agency for Children (EBAC) and Kidango for providing additional outreach to residents, language support and application assistance.

Rental Assistance Extended FRC Begins Re-Opening Facility Improvements Event Calendar
FRC Buildings Open to the Public The two FRC buildings opened to the public on July 6th. COVID-19 safety protocols have been implemented with the opening of the facility with face coverings required for entry. Mask dispensers, hand sanitizing stations, and temperature screening kiosks are available at each of the buildings’ main entrances located between the two buildings. Although the two buildings have reopened, the Family Resource Center is a collaborative of 23 government and non-profit agencies that are all in different phases of reopening that vary from working remotely, scheduling in-person appointments to accepting walk-ins from the public. The status of each agency is evolving and can be viewed on the FRC homepage at www.fremont.gov/FRC. Scroll down to FRC Begins Re-Opening to view the Agency Re-Opening Chart.
FRC Facility Improvements
Although the pandemic shelter-in-place closed most public facilities, the FRC was able to use this time to provide some much-needed improvements to the FRC buildings and property. Community Development Block Grant federal funding was provided to fund the installation of a new roof and security cameras located inside and around the property. Additional funding was also provided for the purchase and installation of new conference room TVs and equipment to make video conferencing possible. In partnership with the City of Fremont’s Public Works Department, the FRC parking lot was repaved, and ADA improvements were made including new sidewalk and curbing at entrances and re-striping for ADA-accessible parking spots.

FRC AGENCY SPOTLIGHT
Afghan Coalition During COVID-19 restrictions, Afghan Coalition provided services virtually and occasionally in the office. They assisted clients with CalFresh applications, utility bill assistance, translation services, mail pick-up for homeless clients, and their offsite Friday Food Bank distributed food. Other services include Keep Fremont Housed rental and utility assistance; Elderly Outreach Navigator technical support on Zoom and social media; and COVID-19 Contract Tracing in partnership with Bay Area Community Health. An online domestic violence support group was created to support domestic violence survivors, and mental health services were available through the Afghan Wellness Project. The Afghan Coalition office is now open and they will soon begin offering in-person programs. Culture Heritage Workshops are held to celebrate Afghan holidays and traditions. Immigration Workshops through PARS Equity are held monthly. The next Afghan Health Leadership Consortium is “Refugee Women’s & Teenage Girls Reproductive Health During COVID” will be held July 29 at 12pm.
