CALLING ALL GARDEN ENTHUSIASTS, LEAF IS SEEKING VOLUNTEERS

LEAF is a volunteer based nonprofit organization focused on sustainable environmental education for children and adults. LEAF works around the year to educate and inspire the community to grow their own food and to foster a connection with nature through hands-on experiences in gardens. Classes offered, often take place in gardens and through site visits. Regenerative agriculture is the cornerstone of LEAF’s gardening philosophy. No chemical pesticide or herbicides are used. The focus is to improve the soil’s health and to optimize the symbiotic relationship between microbes, plants, and insects.

The organization operates three unique gardens: LEAF Stone Garden, LEAF Center and Urban Garden. Each garden is a dynamic living classroom, with individual focuses on regenerative agriculture, innovative and experimental agricultural techniques and community building. The produce grown is donated to local food banks.

LEAF welcomes anyone interested in volunteering to help nurture their gardens and work on projects. If you are interested in renting planter beds, LEAF’s community garden offers large planter beds for rent. For more information, please visit https://www.fremontleaf.org/

LEAF will have 20 informational booths at the City of Fremont’s Earth Day Event on Saturday, April 20, 2024 from 11 a.m. – 3 p.m. at the Downtown Event Center in Fremont. Stop by, say hello and ask questions on how you can get involved!

Earth Day Habitat Restoration for 30x30

Join naturalists at Coyote Hills Regional Park for a special Earth Day celebration and restoration activity on Saturday, April 20 from 9:30 am to 12:30 pm. In addition, shoreline habitat restoration contributes to California’s 30x30 initiative, a statewide effort to conserve 30 percent of our land and water by 2030. All ages are welcome, parent participation is required, and the area is wheelchair accessible. Parking fees apply where charged. For more information go to: ebparks.org/parks/coyote-hills

Transportation Help for Changing Needs

Ralph never learned to drive because of his epilepsy. Using buses and BART gave him independence to go where he needed until he broke his hip in 2021. Ralph reached out to Ride-On Tri-City for help getting to physical therapy. Ralph was using a walker and was happy that the program could provide subsidized rides through the Lyft app on his phone.

In 2022, Ralph broke his leg and was non-weight bearing for several months. With a simple call to Ride-On Tri-City, he switched to the wheelchair accessible van service. After he recovered, he shifted back to the Lyft service. When Ralph needed to use a wheelchair again last year, he knew he could get accessible rides with a quick phone call to the program. Ralph is always eager to tell others about Ride-On Tri-City and how easy it is to get transportation assistance for one’s changing needs.

For transportation help, call 510-574-2053 or visit: city.fremont.gov/rideontricity Ride-On Tri-City! is funded by Alameda CTC. For more info, visit: www.alamedactc.org
