FALL PREVENTION

Falls are the leading cause of injury for older adults. Many falls are preventable when you take proactive steps in securing your home environment and maintaining physical stability.

Regular exercise is essential for healthy aging and offers many benefits, while a sedentary lifestyle drastically increases risk of overall

poor health. For substantial health benefits, older adults need to incorporate aerobics, muscle strengthening, balance and stretching exercises weekly. Older adults should be as physically active as their abilities and conditions allow.

Preventing falls involves simple, yet critical lifestyle adjustments like:

• Participating in regular balance/ strength exercises

• Installing home safety modifications

• Reviewing medications

• Scheduling annual vision and hearing checks

Small changes made today add up and can make a big difference in maintaining independence.

Join a fall prevention or exercise class today at either Age Well Center. You can call, stop by or sign up online at city.fremont.gov/awcclasses.
