Regular eye exams are an important part of finding eye diseases early. Some common eye diseases can go unnoticed for a long time, cause vision loss, and may not have any warning signs.
Eye exams are simple and painless! During an eye exam, you will get some eye drops to dilate (widen) your pupil. This is the only way to check for eye diseases early, when they are easier to treat and before they cause vision loss. If your eye doctor finds signs of eye disease, you can talk about treatment options and decide what’s right for you. Talk to your eye doctor to learn how often you need to get an exam. Go to nei.nih.gov/dilated-eye-exam to learn more about dilated eye exams. You may also call 510-770-8040 or 408-729-9700 to make an appointment for July 28, 9am-4pm for an initial eye screening on Bay Area Community Health’s mobile eye unit located at the AWC at South Fremont. The service is provided on the fourth Monday of each month.
Take steps to keep your eyes healthy by remaining active and eating a healthy diet. Learn more ways to take care of your eye health at nei.nih.gov/HealthyVision.

The late Food Services Manager Chef Marc Wong was a vibrant spirit whose commitment made a lasting impact on the Age Well Center’s participants and community. Marc was so much more than a chef – he was a man who truly fed the soul. He used food to connect with others, sparked joy in those around him, and firmly believed in the power of food to bring people together and build community. He infused every meal he made with love, and he understood that his work was not just about food, it was about people. His belief that the City of Fremont was in the “people business” shaped everything that he did. The Age Well Centers kitchen was always filled with more than the mouthwatering aroma of Chef Marc’s cooking, it was filled with laughter, conversation, and the warmth of human connection and friendship. His boundless energy and positive attitude were contagious, and Age Well Center volunteers and participants always looked forward to interacting with him. In everything he did, Chef Marc led with love and helped make the Lake Side Cafe more than just a place for older adults to gather and enjoy a meal, he made it a place where they felt they belong. He created a space where participants felt seen, valued and nourished.
Dear friend Chef Marc, will be remembered not only for his culinary skills and boundless energy, but for the immense heart he shared with the community. He will be deeply missed by all who were fortunate enough to be touched by his bright light. May he rest in peace. Thank you for everything, Chef Marc.
