HOMELESS AWARENESS MONTH November is Homeless Awareness Month, and the City of Fremont would like to raise awareness of and hold compassion for individuals experiencing hunger and homelessness in our community. In Fremont, there is an estimated 1,027 neighbors experiencing homelessness, most of whom are unsheltered—living in RVs, vehicles, and tents. Most have faced some sort of trauma in their lives and have lost their housing due to a decrease in their income, an increase in cost of rent and/or housing maintenance, domestic violence, or a disconnection and/or loss of supportive family and friends. Persons over 55 are now entering homelessness at a faster rate than any other group. Many are on fixed incomes who cannot afford the high cost of living. Recently, the City started working on a Homelessness Response Plan to help address homelessness. Your voice is critical to this effort, and we encourage you to follow our progress and share your thoughts. Visit my.fremont.gov/homelessresponseplan. There are multiple ways to assist unhoused neighbors. As we enter the colder months, the Human Services Department collects donations to redistribute throughout the community. For a list of winter items to donate email donate@fremont.gov . Please take time this month to learn, engage, and spread awareness about homelessness in our community. Visit city.fremont.gov/homeless to learn more!
