A diabetic woman struggling with her health and medication management was living without a working refrigerator, so we provided one. A veteran was housed but had no furniture, and the community donated a bed and much more. A homebound elderly widower’s greatest source of companionship and emotional support is his beloved dog, so we provided gifts for both of them. These are a few of the stories of the 160 Tri-City families and seniors supported by our Giving Hope program last year. Giving Hope rallies our community – YOU – to provide holiday gifts and year-round support for things that government programs can’t provide. It represents the “heart” of the services provided to our clients. The Bay Area News Group — East Bay Times has recognized Giving Hope as a 2018 Share the Spirit East Bay honoree! In 2018, we hope to significantly expand this amazing program… but we can only do it with your support! You — or your organization or office — can sponsor our individual clients, families or seniors (and companion pets) for holiday gifts, or you may donate financially to the program. VITA VOLUNTEERS
Recruiting Volunteers for our Free Tax Program
During the 2018 tax season, volunteers from SparkPoint Fremont’s Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program worked tirelessly to complete over 2600 tax returns for low and moderateincome families living in southern Alameda County. Over $4.4 million in refunds were returned to Tri-City residents and our local economy, including $1.2 million in Earned Income Tax Credits.
School in Union City and Ohlone Tri-Cities Career Center in Newark. Past tax volunteers represent a diverse group including students, retirees, workers and even tax professionals. Training is provided.
We are now recruiting for volunteer tax preparers as well as other volunteer positions to support next year’s free tax program at three Tri-City locations: Fremont Family Resource Center, New Haven Adult
VITA is a program under the City of Fremont, Human Services Department, Fremont Family Resource Center Division and is in partnership with United Way Bay Area, Earn It! Keep It! Save It! Coalition.

Onsite Recruitment at EDD Every Wednesday from 9.30am—12.00pm, the State’s Employment Development Department (EDD) at the FRC hosts an Onsite Recruitment event for local job seekers. To find out which employer will attend each week, residents can visit FRC Suite #B200 and check the blue Job Board. Onsite recruiting events are open to all job seekers and free parking is provided. Attendees should dress professionally, bring current resumes and be prepared for an interview. If a job seeker is unable to make an event, he/she can drop off a resume at the front counter and EDD staff will ensure the employer receives it. Employers that participate in these recruitments must be registered in CalJOBS and have open jobs posted in CalJOBS. Some notable employers who have participated in Fremont events include Tesla, Kelly Services, Amazon, Nelson Staffing, and Slingshot Connections.

Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services: Tri-City Community Support Center
Our clinic in FRC Suite #G710 provides services to people with severe mental health issues which cause significant distress in their lives. This includes hospitalizations, unstable housing, financial difficulties and chronic health problems. Our staff strives to ensure each person receives the necessary services and resources they need to obtain stable housing, increase money management skills, decrease distressing psychiatric symptoms and obtain optimal physical health. We offer individualized case management services, psychiatric and medication support,
employment services, substance abuse counseling, primary care services, help to apply for and keep benefits and payee services for SSI recipients. We partner with people to build their skills, abilities, community resources and to identify the goals that they have for a better, happier life. The road to recovery can have its ups and downs and we are here to support them. The FRC operates a drop-in, hourly childcare service for well children and it’s open to the public. At Discovery Cove, kids can participate in arts and crafts with caring adults for up to 12 hours a week. Call for reservations. ACCESS provides information, screening and referrals for Alameda County residents who need mental health and/or drug and alcohol treatment. ACCESS is answered by County licensed mental health clinicians Monday-Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm. After hours calls are returned by Alameda County Crisis Support Services. The telephone menu is in six languages: English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, and Cambodian. ACCESS uses a telephone interpretation service for additional languages and California Relay for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing. An Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services program.
