THE MAGIC OF PEERS! The City of Fremont’s Human Services Department believes everyone has the capacity to care for — and be of support — to others. There is magic in the ability to truly ‘be there’ for another person. And it is powerful when two people are peers because they share life experience. The Senior Peer Counseling program has been successfully connecting peers for over 25 years. The volunteer peer counselors are highly trained and receive regular support and education. They provide safe, non-judgmental, compassionate, emotional support to their match/ peer for months or sometimes years, as they journey together through some of the challenges of growing older. They talk about losing a job, or a loved one; having changes in a health condition or family conflicts. It is important to know there is someone to connect with, to share time with, who can be there for you. The Senior Peer Counseling Program has successfully matched specially trained, multi-lingual peers, age 50 and older, to older adults living in Fremont, Newark or Union City, who are seeking emotional support, with the goal to continue to live healthy and satisfying lives in their own homes. Call our multi-lingual Senior Help Line (English, Mandarin, Spanish, and Farsi) number 510.574.2041 to get connected.
