This year’s Medicare open enrollment period is October 15 through December 7. During that time current enrollees can review or change their existing Medicare Parts C and D coverage.

An individual’s Medicare checklist should include a review of the premium they’ll pay next year, and the benefits they’ll receive. If a premium is going up, find out if the increase premium brings improved benefits with it, which might make the additional cost worthwhile.

For Medicare Advantage plans (Part C), enrollees should check to be sure the physicians and medical facilities they currently use will still be part of their plan’s provider network next year. And enrollees in a Medicare prescription drug plan (Part D) should review the plan’s list of covered drugs to make sure their current prescriptions will be on the list next year as well. (Medicare Parts A and B cover hospital and medical expenses.)

People who have health insurance from an employer should check their open enrollment dates and go through the same review process to find out what their premiums and benefits will be in 2023.

If you could benefit from an unbiased consultation, set up an appointment today to discuss how to navigate the health care system. Washington Hospital’s Insurance Information Services Coordinator Kristi Caracappa is available for appointments at 510.818.7005.
