PERSONAL EMERGENCY PREPAREDNESS How do you prepare your home and your family for a disaster? What supplies do you need in your home, your car, or your office? When a major earthquake hits, what should you do? You will find answers to these and many other questions In Fremont Fire Departments (PEP) class. In this 3 hour class, you will learn basic skills in hazard mitigation, utility control shelter in place, emergency supplies, fire suppression. If you are interested in a PEP Class, call 510.494.4244 or email firepubed@fremont.gov. In the meantime make sure you are prepared by having the FEMA’s recommended items for a basic emergency kit: • • • • • • • • • • •

ater — one gallon of water for every person per day for W at least three days Food — at least a three-day supply of non-perishable food Battery-powered or hand crank radio and a NOAA weather radio Flashlight and extra batteries First aid kit Whistle to signal help Dust mask — to help filter contaminated air and plastic sheeting and duct tape to shelter in place Moist towelettes, garbage bags and plastic ties for personal sanitation Wrench or pliers to turn off utilities Can opener for food Local maps
