TCV Food Bank (Tri-City Volunteers) has added the Fremont FRC to their route with their Mobile Food Pantry, providing grocery assistance to FRC visitors coming from the Tri-City area. “The mission of the TCV Mobile Food Pantry is aligned with the mission of TCV Food Bank: To end hunger, one nutritious meal at a time”, said Taylor Johnson, TCV Food Bank and Thrift Store Executive Director. He added, “The statement on the side of our van echoes that sentiment with, Reaching Hunger Where It Lives”. The idea for a Mobile Food Pantry was born from the simple need to provide for those who have difficulty getting to the Food Bank on Joseph Street in Fremont. Every first and third Wednesday of the month beginning on Wednesday October 3, at 10.00am — the bright green van will pull up to the parking lot between the two FRC Buildings. Volunteers will help unload and set up the produce “farmer’s market” style with a variety of fresh produce, baked goods, cereals and protein, in the adjoining conference room. Anyone with a need for food is welcome to attend — there is no registration or requirements to qualify. The first 100 individuals will receive a ticket to go through the Mobile Pantry. Would you like to make a difference in our community? Here’s your chance! Saturday, October 27th is Make a Difference Day, a national day of volunteering to help a local school, charity, library or senior neighbor and we need you! The work is fun
and rewarding and you will meet some great people. Last year there were over 87 different projects in our City including school/park beautification efforts, Winter Relief Shelter preparation, painting projects for non-profits, tree planting, even Halloween parties for kids. If you are busy on October 27th, there are other projects available in the month like food, diaper or clothing drives or other special events. The sponsoring organization is the City of Fremont’s Human Relations Commission and they invite volunteers of all ages to join this community-building program. INTRODUCING A NEW VAN SHARE SERVICE FROM CRIL CRIL (Community Resources for Independent Living) has two wheelchairaccessible vans available to rent for a very low hourly cost. Both vans are 2012 Dodge Caravans and include both hand controls and foot controls for braking and acceleration. The Red CRIL Van is located at the Hayward BART Station, 699 B Street in the ADA parking lot and is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. The Blue CRIL Van is available Monday through Friday, from 8.00am — 9.00pm and is located in the parking lot at the CRIL

To access the vans, people must first register at www.Getaround.com. Once approved by Getaround, people can access the CRIL vans through their cell phone using the Getaround app. Use of the van can be all day or just for an hour; van use will be charged on an hourly basis. Vans must be returned with a full tank of gas. CRIL’s Van Share Service was made possible with support from Getaround, City of Hayward and BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit). VOTE BY NOVEMBER 6! Americans can participate in our democracy in several ways1 and the most important is to VOTE. When the U.S. Constitution was written, only property-owning white men could vote. Since then, people have fought to expand the right to vote to white men without property (1820s), African-American men (1868), and finally, to women (1920). Today, voting is your way to choose who represents your community. It is a privilege and an obligation to help decide our present and our future, and recognizes
the sacrifices of those who fought for our right to vote. This November 6th, California will elect a new Governor, U.S. Senator, all California members of the U.S. House of Representations, and countless local elections for measures and offices. You can register to vote online through October 22nd at www.registertovote.ca.gov. If you miss this deadline, go to your county elections office to register and vote provisionally all the way through Election Day. Make sure you use your right to participate in your democracy by REGISTERING and VOTING! 1

The FRC operates a drop-in, hourly childcare service for well children and it’s open to the public. ACCESS provides information, screening and referrals for Alameda County residents who need mental health and/or drug and alcohol treatment. ACCESS is answered by County licensed mental health clinicians Monday-Friday 8.30am to 5.00pm. After hours calls are returned by Alameda County Crisis Support Services. The telephone menu is in six languages: English, Spanish, Cantonese, Mandarin, Vietnamese, and Cambodian. ACCESS uses a telephone interpretation service for additional languages and California Relay for persons who are deaf or hard of hearing. An Alameda County Behavioral Health Care Services program.

We provide free childcare to FRC clients attending FRC appointments so they can focus on getting the services they need while their child/ren can be well cared for and not distracting their parents’ visit with us. There is no dedicated funding source to cover the cost of free childcare for FRC clients. Please consider helping us and the families coming for support by donating $24, $48, $80 or more, to cover the cost of three, six, ten hours or more of care. Your support helps to ensure that struggling families in our community get the help they need.
